Awesome get-away for our 24th Anniversary
My wife and I had a great time relaxing in this cozy cabin. We enjoyed the natural hot spring hot tub and loved the beauty around us, especially the river just a few feet away. The owners obviously take a lot of pride in this property and making their guests feel comfortable and at home - it's an old and small cabin, but very clean, well kept up and maintained (although there was no WiFi and we didn't have cell service, it was actually nice to be off the grid for a few days and it is very close to town, so you can run into town to check email, etc.). We will definitely be back in the future. Many tanks, Jeff & Tracy

Magical Stay
Our little family of 3 could not have been more happy with the location (so close to town yet felt so remote), the amazing rushing creek, the PRIVATE hot spring overlooking the creek, the sweet cabin, and OH MY so many included amenities! It was better than a 5 star resort! We loved biking the town and enjoying everything the cabin had to offer. I almost cried when we had to leave because it was simply so perfect and magical for our little family!

relaxing getaway
this is a very unique property and lots of history. The owner is very nice and helpful. Just a warning for people who sleep lightly, the sound of the river is very loud, so bring earplugs. The hot springs pool was great and the kids loved it! We want to go again!

Owners Glen and Bonnie Merrifield are Colorado natives. They have built their home on our 60-acre property where they raised their three children Garrick, Beige and Zach. They have been successful business owners for over thirty years, running Merrifield's Greenhouse and Garden Hut here in Buena Vista. About 15 years ago they began fulfilling Charlotte and Roy's (Glen's Grandparents) seventy plus year old dream of starting a hot springs resort. The road has had its bumps, yet they have not lost hope.

Why they chose this property

Our 60-acre property is rich in American history, originally 160 homestead issued to Allen T. Holloway in 1892 by then President Benjamin Harris. Allen Holloway passed away three years later leaving the property to his widow Emma and two sons Judsten and Wilbur. Wilbur became the main homesteader of the property, growing potatoes and onions taking advantage of the abundance of water his property held. Wilbur became friends with Roy and Charlotte Merrifield who were owners and operators of 7 different restaurants over the years, The hot springs water came out of the mountain naturally right on Cottonwood Creek and left mineral deposits making Wilbur, Roy and there friend Grover Dobbins believe that there was gold in the mountain too. They began to mine in 1932 with big hopes. The tunnels they were mining eventually became too hot to bear do to the constant flow of hot springs water they had to halt there efforts. In 1943 Charlotte Merrifield cared for Wilbur Holloway when he fell ill. Due to her act of kindness Wilbur left his portion of the homestead property to Roy and Charlotte Merrifield. Roy and his friend Grover eventually moved Wilbur Holloway's cabin off the main property to the banks of Cottonwood Creek where it sits today. Moving it was no easy task, they used horses to move each log and reassembled it themselves. Roy and Charlotte loved that spot too, they decided to build their own cabin next to the Holloway cabin. The Merrifield's enjoyed the summer months on the creek relaxing and fly fishing with their son Gary. Roy and Charlotte seemed to have a great business since, they took advantage of their properties water and offered twenty-five cent hot baths to anyone passing by. Gary Merrifield and his wife Betty Nell inherited the property in 1968. To keep the properties water rights they began a small greenhouse where they grew geraniums. This is just the beginning of our families' story.

What makes this property unique

We once thought the Holloway Cabin was beyond repair. In hopes of bringing in extra income to further our family dream of opening Charlotte Hot Springs Resort we began renovations on the historic cabin. For extra sleeping space we added a loft. We built a custom odorless hot springs hot tub for your relaxation pleasure. The hot tub is built with rocks from the property, adding a touch of modern we installed led lighting into the hot tub walls to create another level of ambiance. You can also enjoy the music of your choice with our out door bluetooth speakers. You will be nothing short of awed while soaking and enjoying the creek side scenery, nestled in the heart of the rocky mountains.
