Stable Converted Cottage In The Heart Of Castletownshend
Passing through an archway into the courtyard of Shana Court, a customs house, Shana Cottage was originally the stables. Castletownshend is within easy access (52 miles) of Cork Airport. The village provides an excellent base to explore the magnificent surrounding countryside, coastline and beaches by car or foot. Opposite Shana Cottage is the award winning Mary Ann’s pub which produces fine quality local seafood with a bar and restaurant menu. The village has a public stony beach which is clean and safe for swimming, and a public pier suitable for launching small boats. West Cork is one of the best places in Europe for seeing whales, dolphins and seals. Trips out to see them can be arranged, where you are picked up from the public pier. There is plenty of scenic walking in the area, including Knockdrum Stone Circle just outside the village and the ‘Five Fingers’ standing stones close by.

We loved our stay at the Stable. There are some spiders around, but that seemed natural given the venue. It didn't bother us at all. The house is cute, the shower pressure good, and the bed is comfortable. We also absolutely loved the little village. We walked to the church, the waterfront and up through the town. It is adorable. We also got a drink and a snack across the street at the pub which was very cute and yummy. We had to text with the housekeeper for check in, so you do need some form of phone service, but luckily we had that set up. We spent 3 nights here and it was a really great place to stay. We recommend.
Modern kitchen, large freeze, washer and dryer and large tub. Everything we needed. Many interesting sites in theatres. don’t mud the Heritage Museum in Sibereen
The cottage is beautiful, quiet and well-maintained. Anne, the person who keeps it ready for guests, is lovely and responsive. The village itself is wonderful and there was a pub across the street that had some of the best food we had in all of Ireland! We highly recommend this place to stay!
We enjoyed our stay, well appointed cottage. A bit remote location. Must have car and GPS! However we wasted buying a whole bag of firewood and couldn't get it going.. there were no instructions on how to work for, hot water, living room heaters. But once caretaker showed up next day she answered some of our questions.
Most of the original stone walls of the cottage are painted white and all the rooms are large and spacious. The exception is the galley kitchen, by definition. Everything needed for a stay is there and housekeeper Anne is welcoming and helpful.
If you want an air conditioned perfect pristine accommodation, go fine a Hotel chain.
This is a real peace of Ireland, an old cottage with all you really need, warm and cosy and great location.
There is an amazing Restaurant literally across the road that specializes in fresh fish dishes. And a friendly pub & shop 100 metres up the street.
All in all we had a great stay here. And will book again when we are vaguely in the area.
Super cottage in a lovely village. Large sitting/dining room with two sofas and recycled furniture, spacious main bedroom and a second with two single beds. Bathroom with bath, fully fitted galley kitchen. Whitewashed walls and neutral colours make it a restful space.
The village is filled with interesting houses, there are two pubs and a little shop. Lots of peaceful walking in the area, an early christian era ring fort on a headland with great views and the Woodcock Smokery are ideal for a stroll before lunch.
Very misleading, deserted town far from any activity.
This place was not as described. Dead rat in light fixture, covered in spiders and webs. Pincher bugs in beds. Fire extinguishers last serviced in 2007 and 2011. Black mold around tub, strong odor of urine around makeshift toilet. Broken down furniture. Had to purchase our own toilet paper. Expected to clean before leaving and leave extra euros for heat and electricity. Documentation in pictures of all. Extremely disappointing, have never experienced a VRBO in such a poor condition.
Located in a quiet quaint village on the edge of the water, this was a great place to stay for touring around the West Cork area. Having the entire place to ourselves was a treat, as it literally was a home away from home. Its old world charm made you feel like you have gone back in time. There was a pub across the street and a small store right up the road. What more could you want !
Gîte propre et bien placé avec une place de parking appréciable. Le village est fort sympathique tout comme ses habitants très accueillants. Cerise sur le gâteau : le gîte se trouve en face du pub du village.
The cottage was lovely and clean and just what we expected. Close to a larger villiage for shopping. The lovely housekeeper checked in on us to make sure we were comfortable. Was just a lovely few days in beautiful countryside.
My friend and I stayed for three nights with my dog. We loved Castletownhend with it's tranquil harbour, great views from the church and Knoch Drum Stone Fort. We ate at the pub opposite twice, the food and staff were great. Dogs allowed in the garden only. The property was clean and comfortable, a piece of history with it's thich walls. There was everything we could need for a short stay and a great base to explore West Cork and discover where my great great granfather spent his first 10 years of life. Fully recommend the property.
This was our second stay here this gorgeous cosy cottage and we had another amazing time. We got fantastic weather for May and we spent our days on the beach and driving around the area taking in all the beautiful scenery along the way. We ate in Mary Anne’s across the road each evening the food is amazing and took a stroll to the harbor every evening. Our girls are looking forward to coming back to lovely little hamlet.

Not appropriate for a winter rental.
No seals on doors and windows made for a dafty stay. Many of the updates to the property, do not appear to be finished, for example carpeting isn’t tacked down to the floor, or sealing on the bath drain.
This near the sea cottage was the perfect get away for us.
Two bedroom with second room having 2 single beds. amazing 2.5 foot thick walls. Watch the mirrors of your car as you enter under the arch. We drove to the end of the street turned around and made a wide turn in. there were some unclean utensils in the drawer that we had to clean but I am going to blame whomever was there before us.
