There are a few minor problems Front door lock. Cooker light doesnt go off when temperature reached, not a lot of utensils etc for self catering. Lovely position with a nice garden. Looking to next year rather shocked at price rise.

Beautiful location

A quaint village with a brilliant pub. Very friendly locals. The cottage is living and breathing history. It is in need of some tender loving care and renovation.

Just as expected

I chose this property on price and location and both were spot on.Unfortunately the weather was not great but we can’t blame our hosts for that! The cottage was warm, we had to use the heating, and the garden was lovely and private….it stayed dry enough for an Easter egg hunt whilst the church bells rang out!Particularly enjoyed the goodies left for us.

Idyllic Dartmoor Village

Sue and Mark have a lovely traditional Devon Cottage, perfect for our family of 4 and dog. They made us feel very welcome leaving traditional produce, fruit and even wine on our arrival. Village pub perfect for dinner with local ales and ciders. Village shop was well stocked. Location excellent - just 2 minutes from Hay Tor

Average stay

Cottage is situated in a lovely village in Devon, it’s very picturesque and first impressions were good. There was a welcome pack of fruit and wine which was a nice touch. I appreciate it’s an old building which adds to the character but it’s extremely dated inside. Old furniture which is uncomfortable, especially in the living room. Beds are basic, spring mattresses and overly thick duvets for summer made for an uncomfortable nights sleep. Small double in main bedroom meant it was too much of a squash for 2 adults, so I slept in the spare single in other room. The nearby church clock chimed on the hour so the first night we barely slept and hastily purchased some earplugs the next day which helped. The curtains are also old and thin so eye mask needed for early morning light. There was another vehicle in the parking bay outside the cottage so we had to park on a nearby junction which didn't feel very safe. The wifi was so slow it was barely useable and we couldn't plan our day's activities so we used the nearby pub's free wifi which was much faster. The nearby Carpenter Arms was the highlight of our stay we had 2 great meals including Fish & Chip Friday. Excellent food and service. Overall the cottage has great potential but is in need in investment and upgrading of furnishings to make it more comfortable. Let's see if this review stays on Vrbo... only the highest ratings seem to remain up. Last one being Sept 2023...

Property is in a lovely, quiet little hamlet with everything you need for a few days. Check in was easy and owner was quick to answer any queries. No phone reception but wifi worked perfectly. We enjoyed our stay.

We used this property as a base to revisit many places in Devon we hadn't been to for years. It was ideal. Only a few minutes drive, and you're up on the beautiful moors. It was such a bonus we could take our dogs with us. The pub round the corner was very welcoming and the church bells on Sunday morning were glorious. Contact with the property manager was easy with quick responses.

We had a wonderful time at Shamrock Cottage. The lovingly nostalgic décor, the peaceful location in the picturesque village of Ilsington, and the small garden with its apple tree and blackberry bushes—where, thanks to the beautiful weather, we were able to enjoy both breakfast and dinner—made our stay a truly special experience.

Not for self catering.

Overall enjoyed property and loved the garden. Disappointed there wasn't any dishes etc to enable self catering. We will bear this in mind on our next visit. Also we will bring sharp knives and a bread knife. We did find it difficult to open front door from outside so used back door. Not complaints just making you aware. Very much Looking forward to our visit in two weeks. We visit Dartmoor several times a year and your cottage suits us well.

The cottage was clean tidy had everything we needed including wifi, nice quiet village with friendly locals, village shop was handy and the village pub was a miutes walk from cottage and did amazing food and catered for gluten free with a very wide choice of dishes. From the village you are only 30 mins from Torquay and Exeter and there are some amazing walks to do and we were only a stones throw from Dartmoor where we also hadng walks. Shamrock

A step back in time with some very old furniture and fittings, particularly the almost outside downstairs loo. My grand-daughter finally knows what pulling the chain means in real life. Could not get the TV to work, but could plug in my PC and WIFI worked fine. Roof leaked (sorry for soggy pillow that got left in the wrong place). Front fell off the cutlery drawer which I fixed. Lobby door to lounge was falling off hinges. Beds a bit too hard for us. Nevertheless, none of which spoiled out stay.

Superb stay

Comfortable character cottage with lovely garden. Fabulous location next to church and near to village shop and pub. Extremely friendly villagers and warm welcome in pub and shop. Thank you to Sue, we really enjoyed our stay. The dark skies of Dartmoor showed us the best stars! We loved Haytor and all the local countryside. Superb!

New Years Eve break

Gorgeous location and cosy cottage but oven didn't work, leaking downstairs toilet, shower didn't work properly, no hot water from taps in bath. Such a shame as it could have been perfect as its situated in a quaint village, next to a church and pub and on the edge of the moors, 5 mins drive from Haytor Tors and so close to the A38 so access if great. The cottage just needs some TLC

Superb location

Location is superb and just 5 mins from the open moor at Haytor. The garden was perfect for a glass of wine in the sun. Bit more ambient lighting in the sitting room and maybe a comfy armchair or two would be lovely for late summer evenings. Otherwise everything you need is there. The shower is amazing and the cooker too once we had learnt how to use it

Wonderful cottage

A wonderful cottage with everything you need for a great stay. Very comfy beds for a great nights sleep. The church bells chime every hour, but even through the night I only heard them if I was awake. The WiFi was VERY slow. Thank you for the welcome pack… fruit/milk/tea & coffee and a bottle of wine (left it for next guests as teetotal.) Would recommend for a great base to explore the area. Thank you Sue x
