About this property

Lakeland Barn With Mountain Views

Stone built, 300 year old Grade 2 listed Lakeland barn offering ground floor Self Catering accommodation for two people with separate Bed & Breakfast accommodation for two people on the first floor of the barn. Private off street parking at the door, secure cycle storage, external lighting, free Wi-fi. The B&B accommodation is en-suite. The self catering has a kitchen, wet room/wc, partial electric underfloor heating, wood burning stove and full central heating. There is a TV, DVD player, Sonos Play 1 wireless music system, microwave, fridge freezer, Krups Mini Nespresso machine, a starter supply of wood for the wood burning stove, and a small library of guidebooks/maps of The Lake District & DVD's. There is a leather sofa bed in the lounge/dining area for an occasional extra overnight guest and a separate clothes hanging space accessed from the bedroom. Furnishings for both the Bed & Breakfast and the Self Catering Flat are primarily antique and reflect the period nature of the barn and it's surroundings. Bed linen is Egyption cotton. There are no adjacent houses less than 150 years old. The barn is situated in an elevated position on a spur of granite overlooking Ambleside, with only the sound of the the nearby Stock Ghyll Beck to disturb the peace at night. It is located in the Ambleside Conservation Area and is on the Ambleside Heritage Trail. There is virtually no passing traffic and it is only a few minutes walk down ancient lanes to the centre of town. Ambleside is at the centre of The Lake District National Park and surrounded by mountains on three sides, with the head of England's longest lake on the fourth. It is the hub for all adventure sports - fell walking, road cycling, mountain biking, climbing, fell running, sailing and wild swimming. The town has c.20 outdoor equipment/clothing retailers and many bookshops, restaurants, galleries, gift shops and coffee/tea shops.

Ruhig, zentral, sauber, freundlich, gemütlich
Zentral gelegenes, bestens ausgestattetes selbstversorger Apartment. Äußerst freundlich betreut vom Inhaber Robin. Ein Feuerofen sorgt für absolute Gemütlichkeit! Sehr empfehlenswert.

Charming, well equipped and stylish
This is a lovely stay in Ambleside, just minutes walk from the town centre. It is very well located for walks and buses. The accomodation itself is very comfortable, with well equipped kitchen and nice sitting areas. We appreciated especially all the guides and maps available. Robin our host was a.pleasure to deal with and we enjoyed meeting him. Thank you and recommended.

About the host

Hosted by Robin Brackenbury

Host profile image
Having spent the last 30 years living and working in London, I moved up to The Lake District National Park in 2014. I love the great outdoors, fell walking, camping, wildlife and music festivals. I am passionate about protecting wild places and consider 'The Lakes' to be one of the very best places to live in the whole of the UK.

Why they chose this property

300 yrs old stone built, Grade 2 listed Lakeland barn overlooking Ambleside, located in the oldest part of town.
The ground floor Self Catering apartment has a kingsize bed & an occasional sofa bed, wood burning stove, partial underfloor heating, wet room/wc, kitchen, lounge & full central heating. Off street private parking at the door and mountain views.
Ambleside is located at the heart of The Lake District National Park and is the main hub for everything to do with 'the great outdoors' - fell walking, cycling, running, mountain biking, wild swimming, sailing & rock climbing.
There is every grade of walking available, from low level paths and tracks to classic mountain walks.

What makes this property unique

It is quiet up here due to hardly any through traffic, yet the centre of Ambleside is only a 2 minute walk down ancient lanes. We have our own private off street car parking at the door with secure cycle storage and access to a washing machine (£10 per load).
The barn is one of the oldest residential buildings in Ambleside and is situated on a spur of granite occupied by the first settlers here over 1,000 years ago.
We have detailed knowledge of fell walking in the area, and love suggesting places to walk, camp, run, cycle, or simply to go for an evening stroll - including coffee shops, bookshops, restaurants and the c.20 outdoor equipment and clothing retailers here in Ambleside. We can also advise on where to see the best wildlife and how to prepare for the Lake District weather! Accompanied walking is available at additional cost, as well as guided driving tours.
