About this property

Welcome to The Salt Shack...our beautiful open floor plan beach retreat. This three-story home is decorated and furnished in a tasteful mid-century modern/industrial rustic theme...with a beachy twist! The 2016 season was the first time the house was offered as a rental and each rental season the Salt Shack is refreshed with new decorations and amenities. The unique floor plan of this home offers three very private bedrooms, each with its own full bath (two en-suite.)

We have everything you need to enjoy your time in Bethany Beach. Not only is our home a bright, open, beautiful place to relax and enjoy yourself, but we are steps away (literally!) from the pool (indoor and outdoor), playground, gym, fishing ponds, boating/kayaking access, basketball courts, tennis courts, shuffleboard, pickleball, driving range, and our own highly-regarded 18-hole golf course. This is an incredible family retreat in a peaceful community at an affordable price!

- 5 min drive to all beaches (Bethany, Tower Beach, Indian River Inlet)
- 5 min to downtown Bethany (boardwalk, restaurants, arcade, small town shopping)
- 20 min to Ocean City MD Beach (large boardwalk, restaurants, deep sea fishing)

Salt Pond Community
- Indoor 25-meter heated off-season pool and hot tub (winter), outdoor pools (summer), tennis courts, fitness center, basketball court, sand volleyball, shuffleboard, and playground…all a short walk from the house!
- Fishing ponds located throughout community; canoes, kayaks and small boats can be used on the large “Salt Pond” (not on the smaller fishing pond behind the house) and to the network of canals that connect to the neighboring inlets and, eventually, the ocean!
- Full community access requires purchase of guest pass: $100 for one card gives you 20 "punches", one punch gives one guest access to all facilities for an entire day
- Quietly situated between Fenwick Island / Ocean City (10-15 min South) and Rehoboth (15-20 min North)
- Plenty of tree-lined streets and paths for walking, running or biking
- Full access of all facilities (except golf course) available for renters by purchasing recreation pass ($80 for a pass of 20 “uses”)
- 18-Hole, Par-61 Golf Course with Golf Pro Shop

Great house in a great location

We loved this house! Here's why: You can walk to most of the amenities. Golf, driving range, pools, clubhouse, tennis, etc. are all with in walking distance. Kayaks are a short drive. The kayaks are at the boat launch already so you don't have to haul them down there. It's about a 5 min drive to the beach and downtown. There's also a supermarket at the entrance to Salt Pond...very convenient! This house had everything! We love to cook so we brought a few pots, pans and other kitchen items. There was no need! The kitchen was stocked way past our expectations. It also had beach chairs, umbrellas, fishing rods, bikes, kayaks, boogie boards, etc! Again, no need to bring your own. The backyard was so peaceful and relaxing! The deck area has a large dining table, a cooking area with a BBQ, a bunch of plants and flowers and an outdoor shower. The backyard is wooded, had a hammock and a firepit and there is a small pond. The plants and flowers seemed a little thirsty when we arrived so I adopted them as my own and watered them a few times. Even the couple that I had no hope for made a full recovery!! Robin was great! She responded quickly before and during our stay with some questions we had. The owners did a great job leaving helpful tips around the house to make the different features easier to navigate. i.e the oven. You will not regret booking this house. If you do please leave a week open for us next summer lol.

Open and spacious

We have stayed at the Salt Shack many times and it is always clean and welcoming. The main living area is open and spacious and perfect for families to spend time together. It is a short drive to the beach, the boardwalk and an even shorter drive to the grocery store. The Salt Pond community is very friendly and you will always see families taking walks, bike rides and going to the pool. My family looks forward to our trip to the Salt Shack every time.

Salt Shack

The Salt Shack property is a lovely home in a very nice neighborhood. It is well furnished and supplied with everything one might need, including recreation. We were quite surprised with bicycles, beach chairs, and everything else in the garage! Thank you!! The only downside, we feel, is the lack of a screened porch to escape from the flying, biting insects. We felt a bit walled in and couldn't enjoy the evenings as much as we would have liked. Other than that, we had a grand vacation.

Amazing beach house

Cozy home with all the amenities for children, pets and families. Absolutely, one of the best homes I have stayed in and I believe it's our fourth time staying here.. We will be back next year. George and Barbara live in New Jersey and have four grown children and one grandchild, who are the center of our lives. We are both still working and someday hope to retire to our new beach house in Delaware! Until then, we will continue to enjoy our busy lives in New Jersey spending time with our families, traveling, cooking and taking our nightly walks along the beautiful Delaware River.

Why they chose this property

George and Barbara have enjoyed family beach vacations for generations and recently purchased this home to be able to continue the tradition for generations to come. We chose Bethany Beach and, in particular, The Salt Pond Community for all that it has to offer in addition to beach activities. It’s natural wooded setting, accessibility to the 100-acre Salt Pond for canoeing and kayaking, nearby wooded bike trails, golf, tennis and community pool all bring additional amenities that add to the quality of our “family time” together. Having four adult children with many different interests, we wanted to be sure there was something for everyone, including out new grandson!
