Stayed during a heatwave. The property is beautiful and very well appointed. You only need to take clothes and toiletries everything else is there! The supermarket in montignac has everything you need! 10/10

Beverley and her family were delightful.
We are so pleased that they enjoyed their fortnight at Le Chause Haut.
It was a pleasure to host them and we would welcome them back anytime.
Gorgeous property in beautiful location. Everything you would ever need is available in the cottage. It keeps cool during extreme heat. The pool is large, clean and overlooks a chateau and countryside. The owners are very helpful and friendly. A very rural area, a car is definitely needed for exploration and shopping. Peaceful and relaxed stay, fully recommend.

Superb views, nice, complete and very clean house.
We felt very welcome. The owners live next to the house (out of view) in a separate house and really respected our privacy. The house is very clean and well maintained. The pool is spotless with a magnificent view over the valley and the chateau opposite. The Vezere valley has a lot of interesting sites but is not as crowded as the Dordogne valley. Thanks David and Loretta!

Mosquito nuisance
We couldn’t sit out even with mosquito spray, citronella candles and smoke rings without getting bitten badly. We came prepared but didn’t think they would be as bad as they were but the house is surrounded by trees which
Is they like.

What a pity that John only comments on a single negative aspect rather than mentioning any of the many positive experiences his family enjoyed during the two weeks they spent on holiday here.
The insect issue is admittedly worse this year than usual - due to unseasonably mild weather conditions last winter apparently - but has not proved to be a problem for any of the other families who have stayed this summer. So to dock us two stars because of an issue which is completely beyond our control seems both harsh and unfair.
The fact is, John's review is completely at odds with every single previous review we have ever received which probably tells you more than anything we could write here.....

Fabulous house, beautiful setting, great location, helpful and friendly owners.
We have just returned from a wonderful week at Le Chause Haut and would highly recommend it. The cottage was very well appointed with everything we needed for a very relaxing stay. The pool area was fabulous and the inflatable toys provided kept our five and two year-old sons entertained for hours. The view down over the meadow to the river and castle was beautiful, with an abundance of seating areas provided from which to enjoy it. The location was great, within easy reach of a supermarket, Montignac and lots of places to go for day trips, including castles, canoeing and caves. Lorraine and Dave were very friendly, helpful and welcoming and had thought of everything, even filling the sky-box planner with lots of children’s films and programmes. We particularly enjoyed watching Ice Age just before visiting Grotte de Rouffignac to set the scene for viewing the fabulous cave-art! There is so much to do in the area that we would love to return in future, and would certainly book Le Chause Haut again.

Emma - We are obviously delighted that you and your family had a wonderful holiday, and thank you so much for the review.
We try all sorts of things to help make the Le Chause Haut experience as enjoyable as possible, so it is great to hear that our efforts have been worthwhile!
It was a pleasure to have you stay, and we hope that you will all be able to come back again some day.
The best accolade I could give this lovely property is that I would not hesitate to rent it again. We all had a lovely time. Weather so hot we spent most of our two weeks around the excellent pool - very clean, well maintained and a great supply of pool toys for the children plus more than enough sun loungers. Lots of outdoor space for two lively boys to run around. House was clean, comfortable beds and good showers. Well stocked. No complaints at all. Lorri and Dave were ideal hosts.
We received a warm welcome from the owners and we really felt at home during our stay. We loved the big garden and the pool with a very nice view. It's a very quiet and peaceful place to stay while there many things to do in the surrounding area. The house is well equiped and it's also child friendly for young children. We hope to come back some day.
Dear Lori, dear David,
thank you both so much for a wonderful time in the Pèrigord!

De l’avis général très bon séjour.
Belle maison bien équipée, belle vue, lieu tranquille.
We had a lovely holiday in the Vezere valley. There are lots of things to do in the area and Dave and Lori provided lots of great advice on days out and places to eat. We enjoyed a day canoeing on the Vezere, visiting the chateau at Castelnaud, the Marqueyssac gardens and the caves at Rouffignac, which the children liked because of the train that takes you down into the cave.
We also enjoyed spending time at the house, which was really well equipped. The gardens are particularly lovely and there are several different seating areas to enjoy the views from. We all loved the swimming pool and there are inflatables and toys for the children to play with. We also made use of the badminton racquets and the table tennis table so there was lots there to keep the children entertained.
We had a great holiday and would definitely recommend a stay at Le Chause Haut.
A well appointed and comfortable house to stay in for 2 weeks. Good showers, kitchen etc, and very good internet connection. Lots of sitting places around the outside of the house depending on the time of day and the temperature, so always easy to find some shade and cool. But the pool steals the show! A good size and depth, it is in an elevated position that affords amazing views across the valley.
Nothing is too far away, and there are lots of things to do in the area, though we did drive over to near Rodez, 3 hours each away, to see a stage of the Tour de France. If you don'tnt mind a few hills, it's a great place to cycle!
Dave and Lori are on hand and very friendly when you need them or just to ask for advice about different places to go to/shop.
This house gives the impression of being quite small but it really isn’t. There was plenty of space for a family of three generations. The outside space is beautiful - the views across the fields are absolutely stunning.
The house is very well equipped with everything that you could need. The owners live next door and are on hand if you need them but don’t intrude on your holiday.
Highly recommend.
An idyllic holiday spot with everything you would need. The house is homely and comfortable, and bigger than it looks from the outside. Dave and Lorraine were the perfect owners, they were very friendly and available if ever we needed them. The location of the property is perfect with lots to do in the surrounding area. The views are breathtaking, especially from the pool area. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

A recommander.

Rural Tranquility in the Vézère Valley.
It’s hard to choose which superlatives to use to describe this property.
Rural it is, tranquil as well.
You could add magical, since sitting on the bench looking down the valley at dawn with a coffee is the most magical way to start the day - especially as the morning sun catches the Château Belcayre accross the river to the west.
Add to the mix, the kindness and generosity of David and Lorraine, and you wouldn’t wish to be in any other place on earth.
There’s a certain timeless quality to this area. You can’t miss the evidence of the earliest inhabitants - They’ve left their marks, quite literally, in cave paintings as well as carved-out dwellings in the honey-coloured limestone cliffs along the river.
Enough of inadequate descriptions- just book a holiday here and discover the area for yourselves!

Very enyoyable week in such a lovely area.
We had an excellent week staying at the house. It is very well equipped and comfortable, with a great countryside feel to it. However it is well positioned for visiting many of the interesting sites around and also for getting to Sarlat, the nearest town with it's many histrorical buildings and a surfeit of good restaurants. There are many local restaurants and bars close by as well. David and Lorraine were very welcoming and made sure we had all we needed to make our stay enjoyable.

Home Away From Home
We have stayed in many homes both in France and in the US, and this was hands down our favorite. Dave and Lori live right next door and are always available to address any need. The house is stocked with everything you could possibly want, the beds are comfortable and the view is spectacular!! We spent lots of time by the pool which overlooks this stunning view. It was a great couple of weeks and we got sentimental saying goodbye to Dave and Lori. They're the best!!
If you're looking for a quiet home base from which to see this incredible part of France you need look no further.

David & Lorraine are the perfect hosts - very welcoming and made us feel right at home, the house was better than it's pictures and had everything that we needed for a superb holiday. Wish we could have stayed longer. Well positioned as there is plenty to see and do in the area, if you can tear yourself away from the beautiful pool.

wonderful french country holiday
We spent a wonderful five days at this lovely, quiet house tucked up on the hill overlooking the valley. Our hosts, David and Lorraine were a pleasure to work with from my initial inquiry to getting us settled on our arrival to answering our questions about local attractions. The house is in a beautiful location and we made full use of the pool and outdoor patio spaces. The bedrooms were spacious, the kitchen was well equipped and the lounge had a nice selection of books and games. The town of Montignac is an easy 10 minute drive and is full of lovely shops and restaurants. We would highly recommend this property and hope to return again.

About the host
Hosted by David Poole
We have been taking our family holidays in the Perigord Noir since 2005. Back in 2012 we decided that the time was right to buy our own place, and thus began a two-year search for the perfect holiday house based on all the knowledge we acquired during that time. As soon as we saw Le Chause Haut we knew that this was the house for us, as it was in the perfect location for a holiday in the Dordogne. Our experiences have also allowed us to equip and furnish the house to the standards you would expect to make your stay both comfortable and memorable. We are sure that once you have seen this part of the Dordogne for yourselves, like us, you will want to return again and again.
