A Perfect Getaway Holiday Home, Impeccably Stylish, Rustic Luxury
The Space: The Cottage at Wantsley Farm is set in the glorious Dorset countryside, 20 minutes from the Jurassic coast and within walking distance of the beautiful village of Beaminster. You can walk straight from the door (the footpath starts 100yrds down the road) across the hills more or less through the set of Far From the Madding Crowd. The cottage is in the grounds of Wantsley Farm, a lovely family farmhouse which has 17 acres of rolling hills and woodland (also available for hire). It has its own patio seating area, and parking space for 2 cars. The cottage has a kingsize bed in the master bedroom, complete with roll-top bath, and 2 single beds in the other, with a pull out bed for a 5th person. There is a shower room with loo and a separate downstairs loo. Oak floors throughout, exposed beams, a wood-burning stove and French windows make the cottage light and airy in the summer months and delightfully cosy in the winter. There is a patio with table and chairs just outside the sitting room. Due to the close proximity of a thatched roof I'm afraid it's no BBQ's. Guest Access: Guests have access to the farms fields, streams, the woodland and can walk (100yds down the road to the footpath) over the hill to the local pub in nearby Stoke Abbott. Spare linen will be in the cottage, maid service will be weekly. Interaction with Guests. Guests can feel welcome to drop in with requests or for local advice, but their privacy is respected in every way.

Had a great stay with the family, second time here. Property is in a beautiful location with everything you need. Great distance to the beaches for fossil hunting with the kids and lovely pubs and restaurants nearby.
A wonderful stay in an idyllic setting. The grounds the cottage is on is so beautiful and we had such a great time exploring and loved the nature trail! Charlotte and Tim have put a lot of thought into making it a great experience for guests. It’s a beautiful part of the world with so much to see and do.House highlight was the incredibly comfy master bed with roll top bath!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage. Our children loved the chickens and exploring the garden. The cottage had everything we needed and we loved the photography displayed throughout.
A lovely cosy cottage that was ideal for a Christmas stay with a toddler and dog in tow. Cottage was warm and well-equipped with everything we needed. 20-25 mins from nearest beaches and we also enjoyed walking round the farm and visiting the chickens. We would stay here again - super spot!
Had a lovely stay at the cottage, which was in a good location for visiting Lyme Regis, West Bay, Charmouth and Devon.
The children enjoyed feeding the chickens and there was lots to do for families in the area.
Would recommend the cottage for anyone wanting to visit the area.
Great property in a great location. Perfect base for exploring the wonders that Dorset has to offer. Property stocked with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Good communication with hosts and a friendly welcome.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable week at Wantsley Cottage. The cottage was lovely and clean with everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
The chickens were a pleasure to watch and the walks around the grounds were enjoyable too.
Cottage just as advertised - a charming home away from home. Equipped with everything we needed for our stay. A perfect base to explore southwest England.
My friends & I had a wonderful stay over Christmas in this fabulous cottage. A beautiful location, lovely area to explore & the zip wire was so much fun! Such a tranquil retreat to escape the usual Christmas madness. Thank you :)

Pleasant stay
We had a pleasant stay in this well appointed house. The garden area was smaller than we thought and as the owner's pointed out dogs must be on a lead as there is a main road next door. A good location for exploring places if interest in Dorset, Devon and Somerset.
Probably nicest cottage we have ever stayed in., beautiful renovated old barn in a stunning part of Dorset. Thoroughly recommended. We will return again

That is very lovely of you Michael and we very much hope you come back soon!
The accommodation was comfortable and as described online. The cottage manual was useful, extensive and on the whole correct although a couple of places we were recommended to only opened at the end of the week…
Would have been nice to have, in addition to half a dozen of their hens eggs, and pint of milk on arrival as we were limited as to where we could get some. Overall would recommend the cottage.
Lovely property in rural location, but near to town for amenities. Beautiful location.
The cottage is furnished to high standard with everything to ensure a comfortable stay. The view from the kitchen window is amazing (when the cloud is not low)! There are lots of places to walk. The 5 year old with us loved exploring and feeding the chickens, that are very tame. It’s in a lovely quiet location, but only about 20 minutes by car to the nearest beach. The owners were very helpful and responded to messages very quickly.

Lovely time
We had a really enjoyable holiday and we were blessed with some lovely weather. We did think that it needed some extra dishes ie salad bowl, bread bin, extra eggs cups ( only 3 available) and there was only 4 coat hangers.
The cottage itself was cosy and very comfortable and the bed was really comfortable. Charlotte met us and she made us very welcome.

Thank you so much, and very much appreciate the feedback, we will of course go and get all those bits and bobs in, I do wish you had told us on the first day, and we could have had it sorted straight off! I am so glad you had a lovely holiday and do come back and see us again, I will have a fabulous bread bin especially for you :)
We had a fab week stay in the cottage. Communication with Charlotte was fantastic, easy instructions in the manual on how everything worked. The cottage is cosy and had everything we needed. Surroundings are great and the kids had so much fun on the rope swings and zip wire. Location was good, the local village is lovely. We ventured into Lyme Regis, West Bay, Golden Cap and lulworth. Coming back from chilly beach days to the roll top bath and wood burner in the cottage was super nice. None of us wanted to leave, So we will definitely be returning!

Could have done better with having some goodies on arrival
Enjoyed the cottage very clean. Met Tim second day and he spent some time helping sort the video player out so thanks for that.
Lovely conversion of the barn nice and peaceful even though main road was at the back of the property which didn’t bother us. Lovely rolling hills to walk the dog very safe and lovely chickens
Lovely place to stay as a central base in Dorset, clean and well-appointed with clear instructions for optimum use of the cottage and area. Granted we stayed in February but I'd take some slippers next time as the floor is cold but the water was hot, shower was great and bed was very comfy. No communication with hosts whilst we were there but we didn't intitiate as we were out all day but I'm sure they'd be quick to respond to any issues as communication prior to this was very easy. Overall I would recommend.

About the host
Hosted by Charlotte Booth
I'm a jazz/cabaret singer, ex-actress and Aerialist instructor, and something of a coffee nut, so there is always very good coffee to be had here! I am married to a photographer and have two adorable (well to us anyway) boys. We love to travel with packs on our backs to distant lands with adventure in mind, but love nothing more than walking through the beautiful Dorset countryside we're so lucky to live in. Theatre, books and swimming are what make me tick, when time from running a busy family allows that is. We have a pretty relaxed and laissez faire attitude as befits life in the countryside.
Why they chose this property
This little corner of England is very special and dear to us. Away from major motorways we are surrounded by astonishingly beautiful and varied countryside, and a stunning coastline of cliffs, beaches and estuaries.
What makes this property unique
Wantsley Cottage is a stand-out holiday rental. Beautifully converted from an old barn by the owners, it's full of character. Exposed stone walls and oak beams make it a far cry from usual rental cottages. The property also benefits from access to 15 acres of private fields and woodland, perfect for kids to run wild in. Free-range chickens wander about the grounds (numbers vary depending on fox activity), there's a stream to paddle in and rope swings to keep the kids happy. Deer graze in the fields (very shy and flighty) and there's a rough nature trail through the woods for the adventurous. The local village is charming and beautiful, with a traditional butcher, baker and greengrocer, as well as some top notch restaurants, and of course a scattering of local pubs. The coast is just 15-20 minutes drive away and there is simply masses to do, from fossil hunting, to climbing, golf overlooking the sea, boat and fishing trips, donkey rides, soft-play centre, swimming pools and even a vineyard to visit. The local town of Bridport has a twice-weekly traditional market and is packed with restaurants, coffee houses, delightful cafes and has no less than three theatres. Lyme Regis with it's famous Cobb and harbour has a good swimming beach (though there a many others along the coast) masses of galleries and restaurants, and is just 20 minutes away. All of this is set in some of the most beautiful rolling countryside in the U.K.
