About this property
A Perfect Getaway Holiday Home, Impeccably Stylish, Rustic Luxury
The Space: The Cottage at Wantsley Farm is set in the glorious Dorset countryside, 20 minutes from the Jurassic coast and within walking distance of the beautiful village of Beaminster. You can walk straight from the door (the footpath starts 100yrds down the road) across the hills more or less through the set of Far From the Madding Crowd. The cottage is in the grounds of Wantsley Farm, a lovely family farmhouse which has 17 acres of rolling hills and woodland (also available for hire). It has its own patio seating area, and parking space for 2 cars. The cottage has a kingsize bed in the master bedroom, complete with roll-top bath, and 2 single beds in the other, with a pull out bed for a 5th person. There is a shower room with loo and a separate downstairs loo. Oak floors throughout, exposed beams, a wood-burning stove and French windows make the cottage light and airy in the summer months and delightfully cosy in the winter. There is a patio with table and chairs just outside the sitting room. Due to the close proximity of a thatched roof I'm afraid it's no BBQ's. Guest Access: Guests have access to the farms fields, streams, the woodland and can walk (100yds down the road to the footpath) over the hill to the local pub in nearby Stoke Abbott. Spare linen will be in the cottage, maid service will be weekly. Interaction with Guests. Guests can feel welcome to drop in with requests or for local advice, but their privacy is respected in every way.

About the host
Hosted by Charlotte Booth
I'm a jazz/cabaret singer, ex-actress and Aerialist instructor, and something of a coffee nut, so there is always very good coffee to be had here! I am married to a photographer and have two adorable (well to us anyway) boys. We love to travel with packs on our backs to distant lands with adventure in mind, but love nothing more than walking through the beautiful Dorset countryside we're so lucky to live in. Theatre, books and swimming are what make me tick, when time from running a busy family allows that is. We have a pretty relaxed and laissez faire attitude as befits life in the countryside.
Why they chose this property
This little corner of England is very special and dear to us. Away from major motorways we are surrounded by astonishingly beautiful and varied countryside, and a stunning coastline of cliffs, beaches and estuaries.
What makes this property unique
Wantsley Cottage is a stand-out holiday rental. Beautifully converted from an old barn by the owners, it's full of character. Exposed stone walls and oak beams make it a far cry from usual rental cottages. The property also benefits from access to 15 acres of private fields and woodland, perfect for kids to run wild in. Free-range chickens wander about the grounds (numbers vary depending on fox activity), there's a stream to paddle in and rope swings to keep the kids happy. Deer graze in the fields (very shy and flighty) and there's a rough nature trail through the woods for the adventurous. The local village is charming and beautiful, with a traditional butcher, baker and greengrocer, as well as some top notch restaurants, and of course a scattering of local pubs. The coast is just 15-20 minutes drive away and there is simply masses to do, from fossil hunting, to climbing, golf overlooking the sea, boat and fishing trips, donkey rides, soft-play centre, swimming pools and even a vineyard to visit. The local town of Bridport has a twice-weekly traditional market and is packed with restaurants, coffee houses, delightful cafes and has no less than three theatres. Lyme Regis with it's famous Cobb and harbour has a good swimming beach (though there a many others along the coast) masses of galleries and restaurants, and is just 20 minutes away. All of this is set in some of the most beautiful rolling countryside in the U.K.
