Cambridge in December 2021
The property is good value for the money, location was good since we knew Cambridge well so knew how to get about. The Kitchen range was good for a 6 bed and appreciated. The property was good apart for the low hanging tree at the entrance which we found with the roof of the van we had, The property could use some updating but when it warmed up was perfect for us. On the whole would rent this again.

Unreasonable and intrusive "security checks"
The rental company (StayBeyond) that operates this property has extremely strange expectations of what is reasonable to ask of guests and could do with being upfront about this and avoiding giving the impression that you are booking directly with a host. Our booking seemed fine until we had to get in contact with them at the time that our final payment was due as we had received no communication about how to pay. At this point we received a message saying that our booking was not confirmed until we had completed “security checks”. We were required to answer a series of questions about our visit and told that by continuing we were confirming that ALL guests were aged over 28. We were asked to send photos of IDs and selfies of everyone holding up the ID for every adult staying in the property. Eventually (took 11 days of chasing from us) we were able to clarify that the age policy only applied to the person booking the trip (as we had originally expected from the wording in the listing). We provided our IDs despite our reservations about why ID could reasonably be required for all guests. We were provided with a contract that contained alarming clauses such as the home being fitted with noise monitors. Even after we had done this we continued to receive unnecessary, intrusive questions about ourselves that we were told were part of the security checks. For example, having explained that we had a shared hobby of working on a game fansite we were told that we had to provide a link to the website. The night before the trip it became apparent that StayBeyond were not going to provide us the access codes to check in until we answered the questions. The house was generally pretty comfortable and seemed clean but was overall not worth the hassle we had in booking it. It is clearly a rental property rather than a home and could do with some maintenance. A large number of the doors were faulty: the main bathroom door could not not be fully shut and bedroom doors became jammed and could not be opened from the inside when fully closed. Lights in half of the kitchen did not work and lighting is not great in the living room area. We could not use the conservatory as it has no heating and was too cold to sit in. The house was not “fully stocked” as described: there was not enough kitchen equipment for a large group and basic items such as cleaning products, additional toilet paper and foil were not provided.

Some problems
We visited this property as the one we originally had booked had some maintenance issues. It was significantly smaller (and advertised for a lower price) than the original one. The management agreed a reduction on the cost. This has not yet been refunded. I specifically asked about the heating in the large conservatory. I was told that there would be a working heating system. This consisted of a 2K electric convector heater. We could not get the temperature up to a comfortable level until the third evening. Shame because it was a very nice spacious room and the other seating areas were somewhat small. They would have been very cramped if there had been 10 adults and two children rather than the 6 +2 in our party. I also asked if baby gates could be provided and was told that they could. There were NO baby gates provided. I could have brought my own if accurate information had been given. The kitchen was small but adequate for us. The dining area seated 8. Three on a bench seat. The general appearance of the house was rather 'tired' The road on which the house was situated was completely closed at one end for changes to the roundabout. (will be for some months) We were not forwarded of this. Fortunately we happened to arrive at the end that provided access to the street. Our grocery delivery van driver was not so lucky and had to phone us for instructions then make a long detour.

Family reunion
What a perfect little place where we got to spend quality time with each other. Clean and spacious, with all amenities required. Only a short bus journey straight into the city.

Family weekend break
A comfortable stay for 10 people even though it’s listed for 11 as the extra guest will have to make up bed on sofa in living room and therefore would get no privacy or sofa could not be used during day unless you have to remake bed every night. Would be better suited to put a sofa bed in gym room?! House looked much better online but on closer inspection needed a little tlc. Mould in bathrooms that you could smell, carpets heavily stained and worn, table in kitchen damaged, grass in garden needed mowing, plug sockets in rooms loose therefore a hazard especially with young children. House was set in a good location but you would not want to walk into town centre as stated online! Far too long! All in all a pleasant family break away.
