About this property

Vignanova barn in Alta Maremma in Gerfalco (Montieri)

Il Fienile is part of a farmhouse built in the late 1800s and recently renovated. It is located in an uncontaminated valley full of water and at the foot of the Cornate park. The farm is surrounded by olive trees but a centuries-old chestnut grove is also nearby. The owner family produces oil and chestnut flour. Also from this year we have some hives for honey production.
The furniture of the barn is in a schabby style. The house has an independent outdoor space and is on two floors connected by a spiral staircase for a total of 50 square meters. The water in the house comes from a well. For use in the kitchen and bathroom, the owners provide guests with free bottles of water.

To get to the house you have to walk 600 meters on a dirt road in the middle of a wood and cross a bridge. By choice of the owners, there are no televisions and no wifi. But there is also a swing for the children and the opportunity to observe the stars (among other things, Gerfalco is recognized as one of the places with the least light pollution). In the farmhouse live a dog and three cats who, however, do not have access to the barn. In any case, for more information on the characteristics of it is possible to contact the host. Il Fienile has an independent access with its external space for eating and a relaxation area (with umbrella and armchairs).

We are at the antipodes of the chaos of the city. And we are not even in an over-exploited village for tourism purposes. Here the places have not yet been contaminated, there are no intensive crops. Only farms with small productions. The noises and smells are authentic. And nature can express all its energy.

In Alta Maremma holidays are never boring. In the area there are numerous itineraries to do: from the naturalistic ones in the Cornate regional reserve to the historical artistic ones in San Galgano (the sword in the rock) 14 km and in Massa Marittima with its famous cathedral (15 km). Gerfalco is one hour from Siena (35 km). Horseback riding and mountain biking are also possible. Gerfalco is also just 40 minutes from the sea (Follonica and the Sterpaia regional reserve). Other places of interest on the coast: Castiglione della Pescaia (43 km) and Baratti with the Etruscan city of Populonia (41 km).

Magical time out for the Family

We really enjoyed the hospitality and accommodation. It is really a charming place that makes the soul shine. You don't get the classic Tuscan panorama here, but absolute peace and relaxation. For nature lovers definitely an insider tip!

Absolutely wonderful

Where do we begin, staying here was just absolutely lush. The perfect peace and privacy we needed. We really loved hanging out with the local cats and seeing the fireflies at night. Lucia is an amazing host, very kind and generous, and made the check in process really easy breezy. She is truly a hostess with the mostess. If you're looking for a relaxing break but also with interesting places to visit nearby and great places to eat, don’t hesitate. Bring a car!

Diese Unterkunft ist einfach traumhaft

Wir haben eine schöne Zeit in diesem Haus mit unserem Hund verbracht. Man kommt zu dem Haus über einen längeren, abenteuerlichen Feldweg durch den Wald und kann eine wunderschöne Alleinlage genießen. Die Vermieter Lucia und Andrea waren nebenan und konnten uns nützliche Tipps geben. Sie waren sehr herzlich und haben uns am letzten Abend mit selbst gebackener Pizza aus ihrem 100 Jahre alten Steinofen versorgt. Zu dem nächsten Strand fährt man 40 Minuten. Die Entfernung nach Piombino ist 1 Stunde. Von dort aus sind wir für einen Tag mit der Autofähre auf die Insel Elba gefahren. Die Überfahrt hat 1 Stunde gedauert. Alles in allem ein gelungener Urlaub. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder. Allen, die Ruhe und Erholung fernab vom Massentourismus suchen, können wir diese Unterkunft wärmstens empfehlen.

Einfach super - was soll man zu einer Unterkunft schreiben, die nach unserer Meinung einfach perfekt war? Schon die Zufahrt ist ein Abenteuer und eine Herausforderung, da kommt gleich das richtige Urlaubsfeeling auf. Dann die überaus freundliche Begrüßung durch Lucia und ihren Mann Andrea, das Haus resp. die Wohnung, die mit viel Liebe zum Detail und mit allem notwendigen ausgestattet ist und schlussendlich die fantastische Umgebung - es hat alles gestimmt und war in sich vollkommen schlüssig. So abgelegen die Hofstelle auch ist, alles notwendige und auch mehr, war ja mit dem Auto zu erreichen. Wer einmal völlig abschalten und dafür die Natur (Kastanienwälder, Berge, steile Pfade und Wildbach) erleben möchte - der ist hier genau richtig. Wir werden an unseren Aufenthalt noch lange und gerne zurückdenken. Nochmals einen herzlichen Dank an unsere lieben Gastgeber; wir können dieses Refugium in der Natur nur uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen. Karin und Christoph im April 2023

Ein Kleinod inmitten der Natur

Als wir die Unterkunft inmitten der Natur erreichten, begrüßten uns Lucia, Andrea und Mattheo mit einer unglaublich großen Gastfreundschaft, die uns den gesamten Urlaub begleiten sollte. Andrea und Lucia sind die herzlichsten und liebenswürdigsten Ferienhausvermieter, die wir bisher haben kennenlernen dürfen. Mit großer Liebe zum Detail haben sie die Unterkunft gestaltet und man merkt, wieviel Herzblut in diesem tollen Ferienhaus steckt. Von hier aus konnten wir alle Unternehmungen machen, die wir geplant haben. Zwar sind die großen Sehenswürdigkeiten einige Kilometer entfernt, jedoch waren sowohl Florenz, Siena als auch der Strand gut zu erreichen - die Lage des Hauses sorgte dann für die Möglichkeit, sich vom Stress der Großstädte gut zu erholen. Das Haus ist für Reisende, die die Ruhe und Erholung suchen perfekt! Abendliche Besuche von Familie Dachs und Reh sind der Beweis, dass hier noch das echte Naturidyll zu erleben ist. Durch die Lage waren die Nächte angenehm kühl - tagsüber konnte man sich zwischen einem angenehmen Schattenplatz unter einem der Sonnenschirme entscheiden oder die Sonne genießen. Wir können jedem Ruhesuchenden dieses liebevoll gestaltete Ferienhaus nur empfehlen, bei dem man die so oft gepriesene Gastfreundschaft italienischer Familien in vollem Umfang erleben darf. Danke Andrea und Lucia, dass wir zu Gast bei euch sein durften.

Nice Place in the Toskana-Outback

At first the communication and friendliness of the owner is amazing. She is like a mother who does everything that you will feel like at home. The tiny flat is quite well fitted. The location is in the middle of nature. For visitors who want quitness, be outside of every bustle their will find here his oasis. To be honest, the middle of nature has two sides: one site its beautiful the other side, you will have the nature even in the house. Unfortunatelly we did not have drinking water in the tap, because the water comes from an own well witch was not current checked. The tiny way to this flat could be tough for luxurious cars with big rims and less rubber on the tires. We even just made it with our station wagon. We can recomend this flat because we had a good time there.

Beautiful Tuscany, charming house!

Nach Ankunft sind wir ganz herzlich von Lucia und ihre Familie empfangen. Die mit sehr viel Liebe für Detail eingerichtete Wohnung mit Terasse war optimal um sich zu entspannen und den Alltagstress bald zu vergessen. Umringt von wunderschöne Natur und malerische Dörfer haben wir unsere Aufenthalt genossen. Für Natur/Wanderliebhaber sehr zum empfehlen.

Kleines Paradies in den Tiefen der Toskana

Wir wurden am Ortseingang von der Vermieterin abgeholt und nach einer 2km langen Fahrt talabwärts über Schotterpisten und Waldwege zu unserer Unterkunft gebracht. Andrea und Lucia sind ausgesprochen entzückende Vermieter, die uns sehr empathisch und herzlich empfangen haben. Für die Gäste stehen in dem Haus ganz rechts mit separatem Eingang zwei Zimmer zur Verfügung, die mit einer steilen Wendeltreppe verbunden und liebevoll gestaltet sind. Draußen kann gegessen werden, der Blick ist sagenhaft. Die Umgebung ist ein wahres Natur-Kleinod, mit einer tollen Flora und Fauna. Ein toller Rückzugsort nach Ausflügen in die Umgebung. Wir können diese Wohnung uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen und sagen Danke für die schöne Zeit

Abseits von allem, die Ruhe, Natur genießen und mal wieder Zeit finden

Die Toskana - Wein, Oliven und viel Sonne. So sollte es Ende Mai / Anfang Juni sein. Doch als wir ankamen hingen Regenwolken und Nebel so tief und dicht, dass man glauben konnte, wir hätten uns nach Schottland verirrt. Umso schöner war es, dass uns unsere Gastgeber Lucia und Andrea in Gerfalco abholten und durch den Wald, vorbei an zwei, drei Höfen zu Ihrem kleinen Paradies geleiteten. Es war eine sehr herzliche Begrüßung, schnell war alles gezeigt und erklärt und meisten freuten wir uns über ein knisterndes Holzfeuer im Ofen. Viele andere Dinge, die liebevolle Gestaltung, das bereits gestellte "Care"-Paket mit Wein, Pasta, Tomatensoße und Kräutern aus dem Garten entdeckten wir erst später. Auf jeden Fall kamen wir an und konnten von ersten bis zum letzen Moment unsere Urlaubstage genießen. Wir können jedem, der keine 5 Sterne und den Trubel der Großstadt sucht diesen kleinen Flecken empfehlen und werden sicherlich sehr oft und glücklich daran denken.

Be at one with nature

A beautiful secluded spot in Tuscany. We loved staying at Vignanova and enjoyed the peaceful surrounds of the barn. Andrea was a perfect host; meeting us in Gerflaco, providing us with tips and leaving for us amazing (best on the trip) wine and pasta ingredients. Loved visiting the chickens, spotting lizards and exploring for chestnuts. Thank you for a wonderful stay Andrea. Your kindness and hospitality were second to none. We will be telling our friends/family. :)

Charming property with lots of personality, very relaxing.

Well had a lovely welcome from the property owner on our arrival, making sure everything was perfect for us. Barn of Vignanova is set on a hillside surrounded by trees, very beautiful area and so quiet, very relaxing and calming. We spent a lot of our week here just enjoying our surroundings and exploring the forest. The barn is full of character and personality, we loved the kitchen table, glass topped wooden door and using doors for decoration. There is a spiral staircase taking you to the very spacious bedroom with a huge double bed and very cute children’s beds above. Also, a little log burner if the evenings are a bit chilly. Montieri is a short drive from the barn where there is a bar, pizzeria, bakery, deli and a supermarket. Massa Marittima is a nice place to visit, plenty of eating and ice cream and Siena, about an hours drive, is definitely a place to visit. A big thank you to our hosts for their hospitality and kindness making our holiday truly memorable.

Wonderful time in a remote place

We had a great time at this peaceful place within the nature, with lots of wildlife and calm. Lucia and Andrea made us feel very welcome and like home. We can only recommend staying there - also with kids that can discover a lot: butterflies, a little creek with frogs, bat's, deer etc. Gerfalco is a good spot to discover the southern part of the Tuscany.

Natur pur in der Alta Maremma

Wir haben unseren Urlaub im liebevoll restaurierten Haus von Lucia und Andrea sehr genossen! Die offene aber zurückhaltende Gastfreundschaft war außergewöhnlich! Wo bekommt man sonst schon mal Gemüse umsonst aus dem Garten?!? Trotzdem konnten wir jederzeit für uns sein! Egal ob auf der Terrasse oder in der sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtete Wohnung gab es reichlich Platz! Ausgedehnte Wanderungen in der bergigen Umgebung, aber auch der Besuch in anderen Orten der Umgebung haben uns sehr gefallen. Wälder voller Rehe, Wildschweine, Füchse... wer einen gemütlichen Rückzugsort abseits ausgetretener Touristenpfade sucht ist hier genau richtig! Wir kommen gerne wieder!

Eine toskanische Naturoase mit wirklich herzlichen Gastgebern

Dieses auf einer Waldwiese gelegene ehemalige und liebevoll renovierte Bauernhaus im toskanischen Bergland kam uns Großstädtern so bezaubernd vor, daß wir es am Ankunftstag kaum fassen konnten. Das nächste Dorf ist einige Kilometer entfernt, die Straße endet am Haus, so daß man höchstens einmal die Kirchenglocken und sonst nichts als die Geräusche der Natur hört. Wer es schätzt auf der riesigen Sonnenterasse z.B. Gebirgsstelzen beim Nestbau, Eidechsen bei der Revierverteidigung oder Mutter Dachs mit Nachwuchs beim Maulbeerennaschen zu beobachten, ist hier genau richtig. Die unaufdringliche Besorgtheit unserer Gastgeber Lucia und Andrea ( die nur ab und an vor Ort waren ) ob wir uns auch wohl fühlen würden, empfanden wir als sehr angenehm. Da passte es gut in's Bild, das wir uns "frisch aus dem Gemüsebeet" bedienen durften oder bei der abendlichen Rückkehr die Frühstückseier auf dem Tisch lagen. Kurzum: Herzlichkeit, großartiges Naturerlebnis, beeindruckende Wandermöglichkeiten, schöne Ausflüge in die toskanische Kulturlandschaft ( Siena, Volterra, Massa Marittima, San Galgano usw.) eine bis in's Detail liebevoll gestaltete Ferienwohnung - das waren die Stichworte dieses erholsamen Urlaubs. Lucia und Andrea möchten ausdrücklich dieses Kleinod mit anderen teilen, dafür danken wir sehr.

Eine absolut idyllisch gelegene, liebevoll eingerichtete Ferienwohnung.

Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt in Vignanova sehr genossen. Wir haben uns gleich zuhause gefühlt. Lucia, die Vermieterin hat uns mit selbst gebackenem Brot und diversen anderen Geschenken empfangen. Von ihr haben wir auch viele wertvolle Tipps für lohnenswerte Ausflugsziele erhalten. Da das Wetter während unseres Aufenthaltes leider nicht ganz optimal war, hat sie uns sogar angeboten, gratis ein paar Tage länger zu bleiben. Das war wirklich sehr großzügig. Wir kamen nach Vignanova als Gäste und gingen als Freunde. Danke Lucia und Andrea!!
