About this property

A spacious house with fantastic views across the bay to Skye with no pet fee.

Tigh-na-Camus (which means in Gaelic, House by the Bay) is a self-catering stand alone, detached traditional highland cottage built originally in 1897, modernised with a large extension on the back in a completely enclosed private garden. Tigh-na-Camus is situated in a fantastic rural location right next to the seashore & pier in the picturesque village of Glenelg, with uninterrupted and stunning views across the bay to the Isle of Skye. It is a very convenient five minute walk to the centre of the village. There you will find the local grocery shop and the Glenelg Inn with its restaurant & bar, which throughout the summer months frequently has traditional live music and the Village Hall with its coffee café.
Only a short drive will take you to the neighbouring villages (passing Eilean Donan Castle) which hold a host of other amenities.
We offer a reduction for your 2nd week.
The location so close to the shore & pier is excellent for anyone who likes to fish, canoe, paddle board and swim. Also the canoes and paddle boards can be easily stored at the back of the house when not in use.
Tigh-na-Camus is an excellent location for Munro climbing as it is very close to Sqritheall which has a height of 974 metres, with its stunning views, as seen from some of the pictures.
Tigh-na-Camus was the police house from 1927 to 1970.
We have though modernised all the heating and plumbing and added a large modern extension at the rear. This incorporates a bright spacious fully equipped and fitted kitchen with a traditional pine table for breakfast or informal meals. Also on the ground floor is the modern bathroom with a curved shower & full size bath as well as a double bedroom with twin beds. There is also a lounge and a large dining room plus the added bonus of the sun room.
On the first floor are two double bedrooms both with spectacular views over the Sound of Sleat and the Isle of Skye.
There is also an upstairs toilet.
With its comfortable separate dining and living rooms, large modern kitchen plus the sun room, it is an excellent & surprisingly large house right next to the beach to appreciate the wonderful scenery right outside its door. Our visitors call it the Tardis.
The large bright sun room at the front of the house is a wonderful place to sit and relax at any moment of the day; the spectacular view across the bay to the nearby Isle of Skye presents a breath-taking vista of unspoiled beauty and can be appreciated in all weathers and is a great favourite with visitors who can sit and wonder at the infinite beauty of Mother Nature.
Tigh-na-Camus sits in the middle of a large private enclosed garden. On the patio situated just outside the kitchen there is a picnic table and on the other side of the garden a bench to relax and enjoy those uninterrupted views southwards down to the Sound of Sleat and across to the Island of Skye.

Two well behaved dogs are allowed. Cats on request. Dogs are not allowed on furniture or on the beds. We would appreciate it, if dog owners would please remove any mess which is done in the garden so as not to spoil the pleasure of the garden for the following guests.

As there is a problem with sheep in the area, could both gates PLEASE be closed securely. This is another reason we ask that dogs do not go on the furniture as the sheep dung which dogs easily walk through gets trapped in their claws and then leaves permanent stains. In advance many thanks for your consideration. It will be much appreciated!
Wishing everyone a fantastic holiday in this special house.

Host profile image
I am originally from Glenelg and was very lucky to grow up in this special place.
Due to work commitments I have spent the last 35 years working & living at various times in five different European countries.
I love to come back to Glenelg whenever I can and am always sad to leave.
I am delighted to say that I have now returned back to Scotland to live.

Why they chose this property

Tigh-na-Camus was originally the local police house and I remember as a child being taught how to play badminton by the police officer who lived in it.
Since my husband and I bought the house we have over the years sympathetically changed a lot in the house. The biggest alteration was when we added the modern extension to the rear of the property, though still managing to maintain the traditional croft house look at the front. A frequent comment we get is how Tigh-na-Camus is more spacious inside than it looks from the outside. With1,561 square feet it is a large house and ideal for a family or group of friends to enjoy.

What makes this property unique

Tigh-na-Camus has a very special feel to it, tranquil is how many describe it, which is probably due to its age (it was built in approximately 1897) and its character coupled with the modern comforts & facilities of the large bright family kitchen and bathroom. The sun room is also a treat to sit in, be it when the weather is cool or super hot, the ever changing vista in front of you will work its magic. It is a view that you will never tire of or forget and probably like me, wish that you could take it with you when you leave.
