LOCATION
This particular street in historic Clerkenwell is steeped in history. Oliver Twist, perhaps Charles Dickens' most beloved novel, was set in and around here. The Bard himself, Mr William Shakespeare, is said to have held play readings in St John's Square and Henry VII visited the Priory of St John and the cloister gardens behind it.
Clerkenwell itself is a convenient central London location in close proximity to the City, Bloomsbury, Shoreditch, Hoxton and Islington. There are great local amenities, numerous restaurants and supermarkets, plus historic and important cultural attractions. The Barbican is up the road, Hatton Garden is around the corner and you can walk to St Paul’s in 15 minutes. Farringdon station is one of the largest and best connected in London and only one stop to King's Cross / St Pancras. This is an authentic London pied-à-terre, much loved by the home owners and neat as a new pin.

Outstanding location. Very cozy and well stocked flat. Stairs may be an issue for some. Great hosts, always available but never intrusive. Pubs and restaurants close by, and five minutes walk from Faringdon station with direct links to Heathrow and Gatwick. Highly recommended.
The host was most pleasant and helpful. She gave me the specifics on house appliances, trash disposal, keys, and area things of interest. We'd absolutely stay here again. Thanks so much! David and James from Seattle and London

Lovely, comfortable, and well located for walking to theatre, museums, restaurants, and underground
Elinor is a warm, generous, and very helpful host! We have stayed several times, and we love the flat, the terrace, the location.
Elinor was a great host. Great communication before our trip. Check in was easy and the location was convenient. Loved everything about our stay. We highly recommend Elinor’s apartment with a lovely outdoor area looking over some gardens.

We highly recommend Elinor’s apartment with the terrace
Ablemarle was a great place to stay! Check in was easy and the apartment had everything we needed for a 10 day stay. We loved the location! Walking distance to several restaurants and a 6 minute walk to the train station.
Elinor was a great host. She communicated with us from booking to check out. Her apartment and terrace were lovely.
We loved our visit.
Our only wish was that the early March weather could have been a bit warmer so that we might have enjoyed that splendid back deck with the facade of the priory and its lovely garden right there. It was a fine flat, well located and most particularly attended to by gracious and understanding hosts.

Clerkenwell Treat
The area (featured in a wonderful children's book, Smith, by Leon Garfield, btw) has enough to keep one busy and intrigued without ever leaving the neighbourhood. That said, it is also very well served by tube and bus to the west end, the south bank or wherever else one is headed. My goal was to feel as though I lived in London for five weeks and this flat did it! A cozy place to return to after a busy day, perfectly feasible to cook and eat at home (the well-equipped kitchen actually had good knives, when does that ever happen in a rental?) and we had very lucky weather so the deck got lots of use. Thoughtful touches like board games, a drying rack with clothes pins, hot water bottles, a good book selection and a yoga mat. All appreciated. Amazingly quiet for being in the centre of everything. Communication with the owner was easy. This was a dream holiday.
One thing only. It needs a folding step-stool. To get to the higher kitchen cupboards I was standing on a kitchen chair which wasn't good for the chair and not really safe. The stool could live in the corner next to the brush and dust-pan at the deck door.
I purposely rented this apartment to immerse myself in a quiet
part of London, and this flat absolutely met my needs. The
apartment was clean, quiet, and spacious. It was not full of clutter, and it was a comfortable place to be for 2 weeks. (a friend even stayed in the smaller bedroom for part of the time.) Everything you need is a short walk away, including restaurants, groceries, and the very convenient Farringdon Station (which is also on the Elizabeth line and goes to Heathrow.) Elinor was very helpful whenever I had questions. Despite being away from the touristy past of London, it was very convenient to visit all the major attractions, while offering a respite from the noise and bustle. I would definitely stay there again and strongly recommend it!
Perfect hosts, wonderful neighborhood, beautiful little flat with a great view of the churchyard herb garden. Grateful for a comfortable and well-organized stay!

Great flat with terrific views of gardens. near a number of walkable quality restaurants. Beds were comfy but unfortunately the master bedroom is a little noisy with car traffic in the mornings. Kitchen has quality stuff but a little light on silverware and just quantity of dishes etc. have to wash every dish you use for next day use if have 3 people. Owner very responsive and gets back to you quickly with recommendations and response to any concerns. It is a great find!

Thank you for your kind comments, it was a pleasure to have you staying at Albemarle Way which is such a sleepy little one way street, off the main Clerkenwell Road, I am surprised and sorry that it was noisy as this is not the norm. Your comment about the quantity of crockery is fully taken on board and we will add some more straight away. For the cutlery we have 12 of everything but I will look into supplying more. We hope to see you again if
ever you are looking for a place to stay in London.

Perfect flat in great location
Clerkenwell was a wonderful surprise. My daughter was in London for a week of business in "The City" and I came along for a London mini-vac. We have both been to London many times so were open to a new, less touristy neighborhood. The location of the flat was ideal for both business in The City (walking distance) as well as accessibility to everything I was doing all over town. The selection of restaurants in Clerkenwell is a culinary delight, access to transport via Faringdon Station is superb, and the quiet little street on which the flat is situated is perfect. The flat is well-designed, immaculately clean, well heated and has great shower and beds. Couldn't have been more comfortable.

Beautiful Flat in Historic Building in a Wonderful Neithborhood
My husband, teen daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this flat. We loved the view out the back of the church's garden and would have loved to enjoy the terrace but it was a but chilly for that in December.
Clerkenwell had so much to offer that we didn't have an opportunity to do it all. The location was ideal for us as we tend to not want to be in the middle of a busy city like London. We either walked or took the tube/bus to wherever we wanted to go.
Even though many places were closed during the holiday break, we still found plenty of restaurants to enjoy during this week.
Ellinor was very helpful with all of my questions. And the flat was very clean in addition to having everything we needed for our week long stay.
I would recommend this flat to anyone who is traveling to London.

The perfect home base in Clerkenwell!
We just returned home and must say that we loved and highly recommend this duplex for a stay in London. It is very comfortable. The terrace was fantastic for a week in the summertime! Elinor and Matthew made booking, checking in and out very smooth. The space is perfect for a family with one child. As long as you are able to walk the stairs, the place is perfect: private, quiet, tastefully furnished, well-equipped with kitchenware, linens, soap and shampoo. Clerkenwell is well located for easy access to public transportation - buses and train lines - and has some very good restaurants within a few blocks in every direction. We would definitely come back!

Gracious and charming owner who was a delight to meet and deal with. Quality bedding and toiletries which is always a pleasure to receive. Quaintest little side street with a real olde vibe. Can't wait to return!

Our favourite London tuckaway
If you appreciate a nice quiet road but plenty to do around you, then I am happy to recommend this place. The apartment was really comfortable and nice to look at and we really enjoyed walking around and getting to know the streets and local cafes. People were friendly and the markets are fun. No complaints!

Stay here if only for the roof terrace. It is a great space to hide from London!! Plus the property manager has really made an effort to make this a lovely place to be. Everything was easy to organise. Thanks Elinor, we will be back.

So chic and so
I just loved this apartment. Really chic and spotless, with fresh flowers and really thoughtful touches (yoga mat, top quality toiletries). I liked the fact it was hidden away in historic London but so central. The big terrace is amazing. It overlooks a really ancient cloister garden. I was lucky with the weather so got to eat out there quite a few times. They have lovely lights that twinkle in olive trees in the evening . My bed was so comfortable - it really was like staying in a boutique hotel rather than a short let apartment. I'll definitely return.

love it
I loved this apartment. I wanted to go straight home and paint my bedroom that great smalt colour. My only regret is that we were there in winter and did not make maximum use of the fantastic roof terrace. Next year we will visit in the summer and sit outside every night, quaffing champagne under the olive trees. Love this home, could live here 12 months of the year.
