About this property
Romantic Cottage for two In Monyash, with exposed beams and log-burning stove.
Avonlea is a delightful stone cottage built in 1769, which offers the ideal accommodation for those seeking to explore some truly breath-taking landscapes of the Peak District National Park and the contrasting topography of the Dark and White Peaks. Our cottage is located in the village of Monyash, which is centrally located in the Peak District and has an abundance of activities on offer like nature and parks, sights and landmarks, shopping, outdoor activities, fun and games and tours.
For guests who like walking both Bradford and Lathkill Dales are literally from Avonlea’s front door, with countless other walks in the nearby vicinity.
For guests who like to cycle, bikes can be hired locally and there are plenty of cycle routes to choose from including the High Peak Trail to Middleton Top and the Tissington trail, which runs down to the cobbled streets of Ashbourne .
Five miles away lies the pretty market town of Bakewell, and the surrounding area has many other significant attractions such as Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Castleton Caves, the plague village of Eyam and Cromford Mills a World Heritage site to name a few.
The cottage lies at the centre of the village with the local pub, The Bulls Head & Restaurant, just 100 yards away. Set in the centre of the Peak District, our property makes the most of the scenery with open countryside from the secluded rear patio and l garden, which is perfect for a BBQ.
Downstairs, the fully equipped kitchen provides everything guests need for entertaining, and the oak beamed lounge/dinner area, with its log burning stove and stone fireplace is the ultimate spot for a cosy evening in front of the fire. The lounge also has a double sofa bed for occasional use, if required.
The bedroom can be found upstairs located at the front of the cottage, with a cast iron double bed being the central feature of the room and distressed pine bedroom furniture. The property has a spacious bathroom with bath, and shower-over, toilet and hand basin.
The property provides great village style accommodation for those seeking a cosy getaway amidst the outstanding natural beauty of the Peak District National Park, with spectacular views and only a short drive to explore the many pretty market towns in the locality.

About the host
Hosted by Chris Staniland

We are Carole and Chris and we were born, raised and worked in Sheffield. Carole was a head teacher and Chris a Chartered Engineer. We bought Avonlea Cottage as a holiday home renovation project to get away from work pressures at weekends. It took us 2 years to complete and initially we let it to family and friends, but it proved so popular that we now let it for a holiday home all year round and next year will be our 15th letting year.
Why they chose this property
It is a one bedroomed property with open countryside views we bought for renovation as we could be there from Sheffield in 30 minutes, making the commute very short. We fell in love with its charm, the rear garden, the local public house 100 metres away and have very happy memories of all the hard work and good times we had there.
What makes this property unique
It is situated in the Village of Monyash with its centrally location in the Peak District making it an ideal base to explore the surrounding area and its close proximity to Bakewell. We retained its quiet and relaxing feeling by making it a cosy and romantic escape to the country side for two people, to enjoy long walks, good food and an evening by the wood burning stove or in the village pub.
