ABOUT THE AREA
Tahoe City is perched on the shore of Lake Tahoe at the headwaters of the Truckee River (Lake Tahoe's only outlet). Enjoy four-star dining, homegrown coffee shops, shopping, galleries, and a leisurely stroll through town on the lake view boardwalk any time of year.

Commons Beach is Tahoe City's four acre public park on the lake, popular for sunbathing, swimming, and picnicking. Group picnic sites and children's playgrounds are located within a large lakefront grass and sand area. Bike and watercraft rentals are available within walking distance.

During the ski season, you are just 15 minutes from Palisades Tahoe has a shuttle that runs continuously between the base area of Olympic Valley & Alpine Meadows when both resorts are open for operations, weather, and traffic permitting.

Vanni House in June

The home was exactly as expected. The yard is very nice, especially in summer months. Enjoyed the hot tub. Could probably use some general updates as it is an old home. A second mirror would have been nice. But all-in-all a great time and a great location.

Fun Get Away Retreat

We had a great time at this property. The location was great and close to everything you need. Lake Tahoe, grocery stores, restaurants and shops were within walking distance. We stayed here for a snowboard trip and were able to walk to the rental store to get our gear. So convenient. This cozy cabin provided us with everything we needed for our snowboard get away.

Reviewer Comments: In an older neighborhood near Tahoe City high school, very cozy and charming for the Memorial Day weekend and easily accommodated the 5 of us. Easy to walk to lake and river and short drive to trails. The hot tub out back is an added benefit. Can easily walk to the Safeway as well out the back.

Nice house, but Beware

Vanni House is very nice, with a great location. Nicely equipped with almost everything you need. However, although we knew in advance that the two bedrooms were upstairs and the one bathroom was down on the main level, we did not anticipate that the stairs would be as steep , slippery ( uncarpeted) and difficult to navigate as they were. Luckily the living room sofa opened into a queen size sleeper, but it's not as comfortable as a regular bed and opening it reduced the enjoyment of the living room itself. Bad choice for us.

Not what we expected

Let's start with the pro's, I'm all about positivity. The location was amazing. We got to walk to town and the beach every day. The beds in the right bedroom were very comfortable. The backyard was nice. The cons list: we are very afraid of spiders. During our stay we had to kill more than 30 spiders and very large carpenter ants. I understand being in the pine trees and it was summer, but this was overwhelming and stressful. I've never experienced this in all of my years of going to Tahoe. Our daughter was afraid to use the bathroom because over the five days we were there we couldn't go anywhere in the house without seeing very large spiders. We might as well have gone camping. The hot tub would've been great, but there is not a light that works so going in the backyard meant being in the pitch black dark. The refrigerator was leaking water and got all over our food that we bought. We reported this the day we arrived and were told that happens when a fridge is cleaned. We wiped it up and it happened again. We ended up just tossing our food out and reported the leaking and loud noise again. I sent several photos and a video to the Tahoe Getaways email. Tahoe Getaways finally sent someone out to look at it and instead of calling us to ask us about it they told us there was nothing wrong and they cleaned the water again. The fridge woke us up again on night 3 so we called back and said forget it and it can be fixed after our departure. We made the most of our trip, but would never stay here again.

Vanni House/Tahoe City

We had a great time. This was an old-school cabin - which we could appreciate because we are old. The house is located very close to the main thoroughfare in Tahoe City yet quiet. It was very well stocked with everything one could need and the yard was great for our dog. Note that the stairs could be an issue if you have to get up a lot in the night to use the toilet (bedrooms upstairs, 1 bathroom downstairs). I recommend the owners put some kind of warning tape on the last step as my husband missed it twice. Also, it would be great to have screens on the windows. Note to Tahoe Getaways: a couple more small hotel soaps would have been appreciated.

That said, we do provide a starting supply of items like shampoo and soap that should be an ample amount to get you through a couple of days. Cute and cozy Tahoe City home

This house was darling. The decor made us feel like we were in a Pottery Barn catalogue. Perfect size for 4 people and 2 dogs. Walking distance to everything. We will definitely book here again.

Doing business with Tahoe Getaways was an absolute pleasure! Everyone that I dealt with was prompt, knowledgeable and friendly -- actually eager and happy to help the customer! Vanni house itself was charming and well-appointed. There were a couple of minor issues going on at the time of our visit, but, again, Tahoe Getaways had taken proactive steps to resolve the major one before we even arrived (gas range/oven not working properly), and they were quickly responsive to our call for the minor ones while we were there. The only real drawback of Vanni House is the severe lack of lighting in the living room; at night it is totally inadequate for anything other than conversation. Or possibly watching TV, but only IF you already know how to operate the set because you'd have to use a flashlight to read the controls! This was not a big deal this tine because our stay was short, but for visitors with children or a longer stay it could be really irritating. That said, however, I and my guest would both definitely return to Vanni House and Tahoe City, and would most definitely do business in the future with Tahoe Getaways.

Loved the Vanni House!!

The only drawback is that bathroom is downstairs and the bedrooms are upstairs. My husband is in his 70's and the stairs are tough at night. Otherwise we absolutely loved it. We were close to town and yet it was peaceful. The gardens are lovely and added to the vacation experience. We are thinking about renting this property again.

You cannot beat the convenience of being a block and a half from the lake, beach, shops, restaurants, marinas and the outlet to the Truckee River (rafting companies you can walk to). The house was perfectly clean and comfortable. Yes, there is one bath and it's downstairs but that is a minor inconvenience when compared with all the other comforts of home plus the hot tub. Every appliance was updated, clean and many utensils and cooking items were supplied. There is a grocery store .2 miles from the home. It was perfect.

Needs Improvement

I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: First, the good: -Cute house and overall very clean (except for shower curtain) -Good location, walking distance to shops and restaurants -Clean, well appointed kitchen and large table -Very comfortable beds with nice linen Disappointed with the following: - No air conditioning! It was 85-90 all weekend, very hot & stuffy in the house. There is also no central heating for those winter trips. - Shower curtain had mold all along the edge. Gross. - The windows were not screened so it was a safety & security hazard to open the windows as we have a young child. Also lets flies in. - Very steep flight of steps to the second level where the bedrooms are. The bottom landing is the same color paint as the steps so it was hard to distinguish where the steps ended. We slipped and fell 3x. Also was difficult for mother-in-law w/ cane to go up/down the stairs. -The fenced-in backyard was misrepresented as our own backyard, when in fact it is shared by the building next door which is an engineering/construction business. They were doing work on their property so their gate was open 2 of the 3 days we were there. This defeats the purpose of having a fenced in backyard to let our puppy roam and potty. Had to leash her just to let her out. The listing does not indicate that you are sharing the yard and have no control over the other gate. -Our view outside our windows was that of construction equipment owned by the nextdoor business. They ran their equipment at 8:30 am every day. Not the tranquil, relaxing environment I thought I was getting when I booked this house. We followed all of Tahoe Getaway's long list of rules for booking, pre-payment, providing ID, check-in and check-out. In return I expect accurate descriptions & full disclosures of all the items I outlined above. I would not have booked this property had I known there was no a/c, the fenced-in yard was not completely secure, and that the rooms were in

Old but sweet

Reviewer Comments: At checkin time of 4pm, I was told I could check in. 15 mins later after I was at the property I was told there was water in the basement. The company told us to get out and they had no place for us to go at 5pm on a Friday of a holiday weekend, no plan B, just get out. We were a small family group with two dogs and no where to go. They finally cleared the sump pump in the basement but were totally clueless before that on what the issue was. Didn't care that we had been traveling since 3am and had no where else to go.

Cozy in Tahoe City

The kitchen is pretty well stocked (french press coffee pot!) and the hot tub was wonderful after a day on the slopes. The only thing to be aware of is that the bathroom is actually off the kitchen on the first floor. Still, Vanni House is a wonderful, cozy place to enjoy quality time with family, and we cherished our time there. Tahoe Getaways was easy to work with, very friendly and professional.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We love the Vanni House. The location is wonderful, an easy walk to the lake and downtown. The house is equipped with everything we needed. Comfy beds and well stocked kitchen, clean hot tub and a fenced in yard for the safety of our children and dog. Would have loved for it to be a little cleaner, didn't feel like the bathroom got a thorough cleaning before we came, and there were lots of spiderwebs throughout the house. Maybe a different arrangement/selection of furniture in the living room would make it more comfy for a family of 5/6 to enjoy hanging out and being able to see the tv screen or snuggle up to read. But we have stayed here several times and really enjoy this lovely old house that has so much character.
