Hot tub was very clean and was ready to use when we arrived. It was very easy to check in/out. They had plenty of dishes for us to cook some days or reheat our leftovers in the microwave. The cabin needs some dusting, and the driveway is a little steep so it would be wise to bring a vehicle with AWD or 4WD because one of the cars did not have this and getting up the driveway after it rained made it get stuck halfway up. Playing pool was fun, but shorter sticks are recommended. Overall had a good relaxing honeymoon and we were able to watch our favorite shows on their smart TV's.

Good location. Property was dirty. Cobwebs everywhere inside and out. Grill covered in cobwebs. Very dusty and musty. Fridge not working. Dryer not hot. Fixed the fridge ourselves. Owner unconcerned.

Rustic refuge

Quiet, peaceful getaway on the mountainside above Gatlinburg. We enjoyed driving through the Smokey Miuntsin state park, especially the Cades Cove loop. Gatlinburg had lots of beautiful Christmas lights and shopping. Enjoyed our time here.

Perfect little getaway for my husband and I.

Cabin was well stocked and clean. Owner was very responsive to questions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. If your looking for a quiet getaway I highly recommended this place. The cabin in on a steep incline, but we have 4 wheel drive so wasn't a problem for us. Thank you for a much needed getaway it was perfect!!

A Must Stay!!!

Beautiful cabin to stay in! My partner and I felt like we were at home, which was very comfortable. The cabin had everything we needed and more! The driveway was STEEP… not too much to handle in a truck though. The views were perfect going up and down the hills. Even seen a couple of bears in the driveway of the cabin. The best birthday trip ever, which was my 32nd birthday! Most definitely will return!

Spring hiking in the smoky mountains

Drive way very steep with sharp turn into a sloped parking space. A bit of a challenge in our very large rental pick-up truck which we were not accustomed to driving. We had requested a small SUV, but the pick-up was all the rental agency had when we got in.

Cozy in a good way

Saw a bear next to the driveway while unpacking the car. Don’t take a vehicle you don’t trust to climb hills. Very clean. Smelled very clean. Secluded for the most part and private. Did hear some screams from neighbor kids.

Steep driveway....Beware.

The road to the cabin is very narrow. We left our friends who stayed in town early every night to get back to the cabin before dark. I lived in Denver with mountains but these roads were narrow and not a place for a van that we used. The cabin was great. Clean as a pin. Very pleased but the driveway is on a slope. I would not stay here again due to roads and parking conditions.

Anniversary Getaway

I'm not sure how we missed it but this property is a part of a clubhouse. We were pleasantly surprised to get pool access to 3 pools but unpleasantly surprised how surrounded by neighbors we were. The driveway is very steep which we were prepared for but we did think there would be a flatish spot to park. However, there was not so just be prepared for that. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the cabin! The soaker tub and hot tub were great. The bed is super comfy. We spent a lot of time just relaxing, reading, and watching the Olympics which was so perfect on our time away from the kids. There were a lot of cobwebs unfortunately which is why we didn’t rate the cleanliness high. And there were lots of extra pillows but no pillowcases for them. We did text the owners and they said use what we could find but unfortunately there were none anywhere.

The cabin was not accible to us becas e our 2025 Kia Sportage would not make it up the steep driveway to the cabin. I had recently had open heart sugery and could not accessthe cabin even to walk to it. The location of the cabin is horrible to get to the driveway. We could not stay there so I ask if another cabin was available byt she did not resond back. Out of all the Verbo places we have stayed this was the only bad choice. We ask for a refund and wad denied. So we rented a motel room for 4 days. We will never rent from tgem agian.

The cabin was lovely. Large, clean and so quiet. Much nicer than staying in a motel. We had a Momma bear and two cubs walk right by the porch as we were leaving the first day. It was great! Hot tub was very clean and and nice.

This is our second stay at this cabin, and we can't wait to come back again. Peaceful and secluded but just mere minutes from Town and GSMNP. Wildlife is abundant, views can't be beat and it's just the right size for the two of us!

About the host

Hosted by Kim Meyer

Host profile image
Kim, who is from New Orleans, Louisiana, has been a frequent visitor to Gatlinburg since early childhood. After experiencing the beauty of the mountains, views, waterfalls and all of the activities offered in the area, she knew she wanted to have a vacation home here. When the cabin became available, she convinced her husband, John, who is from Lafayette, Louisiana, to buy and renovate it. Black Bear Ridge was born and for the past ten years has been upgraded and kept in pristine condition. Our cabin had been with a rental company but we decided to change to VRBO. We hope you give us a chance to introduce you to a true mountain experience.

Why they chose this property

Once you come to Gatlinburg, you will know why we chose this area; the friendly people, entertainment, which includes all of the amenities located in both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, outdoor activities, shopping and wonderful dining. Some of these amenities include Dollywood, Splash Country water park, the aquarium, Titanic, The Island, which includes unique shops, dining and a 200 foot ferris wheel. The dining includes a vast array of restaurants such as The Park, Cherokee Grill, Smoky Mountain Brewery and No Way Jose's. The activities include hiking in the Smokies, ice skating ( year round), skiing, white water rafting, tubing, zip lining, shopping in the arts and crafts community where local artisans create and sell their crafts. For the nonhiker, the Motor Nature Trail is an option for those wanting to view the Smokies from the comfort of their vehicle, which is located at traffic light number 8, Airport Road.

What makes this property unique

One cannot help but fall in love with Black Bear Ridge, an authentic, lovely log cabin. Staying in this cabin affords you the true mountain experience. Upon waking in the morning and smelling the crisp mountain air while sitting out on the deck surrounded by nature (and sometimes viewing wildlife), you'll soon feel your cares drift away.
