About this property

Charming Creekside Cabin-Romantic-Mtn/Waterfall Views-Hot Tub-1 mi to Purgatory

Welcome to Cascade Creek Cabin, our little jewel on the mountain! This darling 2 bedroom, 1 bath cabin is situated on a beautiful wooded acre with the Little Cascade Creek running through the property. Relax in rustic elegance as the sounds of a rushing waterfall, rustling pine trees and humming birds fill the air. Explore the outdoors right from your back deck or hike north along the creek to Columbine Lake and south to Electra Lake. Fish from the banks of Cascade Creek or our beautiful Columbine Lake, both are not permitted and yes, they have fish!

Enjoy watching sunsets over the spectacular Hermosa Cliffs while relaxing in the private hot tub or while sipping cocktails listening to the waterfall from the back deck. Take a short stroll down a lovely trail to have wine and cheese on our aspen swing while watching the creek dance over the rocks below. If you are lucky, you may see an elk, deer, wild turkeys, quail, muskrats, beavers, raccoons, and other cute critters. There have been reported sightings of a moose nearby, but not from the back deck as of yet.

Cozy up by the fire in the wood burning stove in the main living area while watching the flat screen TV or stream movies over the internet Wi-Fi. The kids will be content with their own TV and gaming center upstairs in the spacious loft bedroom. Our cabin may sleep as many as 6 people comfortably with the following bed configuration:

Master (1st floor) – Queen
Loft (2nd floor) – Full (3)
Living (1st floor) – Queen pull-out sofa/bed

Cascade Creek Cabin offers privacy and seclusion nestled in the spectacular San Juan Mountains. Located 25 minutes north from Durango and only 1.5 miles from the ski resort, amenities abound. The Sows Ear Restaurant located less than 2 miles away, boasts 4 star dining and a lively bar. The Old Schoolhouse Cafe located 5 miles away, serves the best pizza and calzones this side of Italy…well that’s our opinion anyway! There is always something to do at the ski resort with summer and fall activities for the entire family. This will truly be your home away from home.

Our cabin is cozy and you will find it is exactly what you need.

*****4-Wheel Drive/AWD REQUIRED in winter (Thanksgiving through mid-March)*****
Our home is tucked away off a beautiful winding road which is regularly plowed in the winter. You will be driving on packed snow which can become icy, especially on steep hills. Chains may be necessary if you are driving an AWD SUV with high performance tires.

Beautiful Spot!
What a treat to stay in this beautiful little cabin outside of Durango! We had great communication with the owners, the cabin is nicely supplied so no issues with making meals in, and the hot tub was a nice bonus after long hikes! An unexpected surprise was all of the hummingbirds that would come up to the back deck! My son stood with the feeder in his hands and the little birds came right up to him! We would sit in the hot tub and watch them feast! It was so fun for all of us! Only downside is the main bedroom is very tight. It could do without the one long dresser to give you more room to move around and save your shins! ha! Overall a wonderful stay in Beautiful Durango! We would stay here again!

Great cabin, great location
Well-kept, clean, beautiful location. Only downside to our stay were the mosquitoes. We were there in mid-July and the mosquitoes were very bad some evenings. Citronella candles are a must. Hosts were great and communicated well.

Cozy cabin
We loved our stay here! The kids had a blast exploring out back and the house was a perfect place to spend a vacation in the mountains. The hot tub was working and we enjoyed the cool nights in it. The kitchen is well stocked and we had everything we needed to feel right at home.

About the host

My family and four dogs currently reside in Houston, Texas. My husband grew up in Denver, Colorado and I am from El Paso, Texas. He enjoys rubbing in the fact that he grew up in the heart of the Colorado Rockies whereas I only got the “tail-end” of them. Nevertheless, we both share a common bond which is a deep love and appreciation for our majestic Rockies and are thankful for the wonderful year-round activities they offer. We purchased this cabin in 2002 with the intention of one day remodeling and expanding it to accommodate us when we finally retire and live year round in Durango. Well, we wound up remodeling it but didn’t add an inch to the square footage because it was just so ‘dang cute as it was!

Why they chose this property

The town of Durango is the probably the most quaint and unpretentious resort town in Colorado. There is such a down-home style and innocence that sometimes I feel that the town is held in a 1950s time warp! The people are neighborly and life seems so simple and uncomplicated.

We wanted our home to be close to Durango for its shopping, restaurants, medical facilities and of course charm; however, we also wanted to live in the heart of the San Juan Mountains. This location offered us everything we dreamed of and more.

What makes this property unique

We chose this cabin because of the proximity to the ski resort (1.5 miles), the one acre lot has more creek frontage than any property in the area, the gentle sloping terrain to access the creek for fishing and hiking, and the dramatic views of the Hermosa Cliffs with the cascading waterfall and creek below. You will not hear traffic noise, only the sound of the rushing water, the hummingbirds, the aspen trees and pine needles rustling in the wind. During the day the views from every window are amazing. At night, you will feel as if you are in a planetarium with stars so bright. Be sure to follow the gently sloping trail which leads you to an aspen swing built looking over the rushing creek below. Enjoy cocktails on the deck, in the hot tub, sitting on the rock outcrop watching the waterfall, or on the aspen swing. At any time of the day, any season of the year, this cozy cabin will feel like home.
