the garden of Lucia is a structure within a context dating back to the sixteenth century, a period when the church of S. Pietro al Carmine was built. It is located in Ortigia ancient island of Syracuse, mother land where many ethnic groups have left a decisive mark, Greeks, Normans, Hispanics, Romans. A timeless wonder has come out of it, already recognized by UNESCO. It is accessed from Piazza del Carmine and you enter Via S. Pietro. The entrance is characterized by a vaulted roof, an old fountain and a mix of greenery. You proceed through a further door where there is a pateo, the garden characterized by an ancient jasmine, now centenary, plants and flowers that are the background. The house has been totally renovated respecting its origins, has new interior and exterior furnishings, Wi-Fi satellite TV, a fully air-conditioned environment. In the large entrance there are outdoor furnishings that lend themselves to an environment in total relaxation. The house is located in the center of Ortigia. The Temple of Apollo, the Duomo, the Arethusa fountain and every other historical and artistic site are just a short distance away. Nearby there are restaurants, meeting places, shops, the Old Market, supermarcati, car rental agencies and many other services. I do not describe you Ortigia I invite you to breathe it, to live it. Many thanks

We really enjoyed everything at The Garden of Lucia, especially the hospitality of Pietro, our host, and his family, Loredana and Giordano.
The apartment and the private courtyard garden are beautiful. We enjoyed sitting outside in the evening after returning from dinner with the faint scent of jasmine in the air.
The location in the Centro Storico is very peaceful yet you are steps from from cafés, restaurants and activities.
Pietro, grazie mille.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Just ok
The location is great. The owner was very specific about rules. The rules should have been written down, it was hard to remember all of the rules for the house after a long car ride there. No cooking any fish, lights must all be turned out, no flushing toilet tissue in the commode (which is disgusting), and the two bedrooms is one and a pull out couch in the living room.

Our host has misunderstood everything, I feel sorry for her. The house rules are written in a special poster on the living room kitchen table, written in English. We put rules because of our experience of years of this work. We own holiday homes, we are not a hotel with non-stop central air conditioning, ditto for the lights on. Several times the gentlemen in question have left everything on, we rightly pointed it out but to no avail. The fish that I love cannot be cooked at home, it leaves a smell that the following guests may not like. Upon request it is possible to cook outside next to the garden. Toilet paper is written in the rules and it was said verbally, it is thrown away in the bin in the bathroom, not in the toilet. As for the house there is a very precise description on the information about it. Everything corresponds to reality. A double bedroom, a living room kitchen with double sofa bed and the bathroom. The rules are there for civility, respect, education. So ladies and gentlemen when you book read the information about the property before senselessly and logically denigrating the people in the figure of the owners. Finally, as rude people our guests left without saying goodbye slamming the door, never happened something like that. I would never host these people again and I do not recommend them to anyone.
Great location, nice owners, but not perfect for everyone
First the good: the location is wonderful and the Pietro and his wife are very kind. The room is clean and well equipped.
We got the impression that the owner may have been burned by previous renters as he was very insistent on points that most VRBO hosts would just leave in a note on the table in the room. These included turning the heat off when we left and taking care to do the same with the lights. All valid concerns but the intensity of this insistence was off putting.
The floors are very, very cold – and neither of us ever have cold feet. We wore our shoes anytime we had to walk inside. My guess is that this is why previous guests ran the heat continuously.
Lastly, and this is a small aesthetic thing: there are only bright white overhead lights in the rooms – a little bit hospital-like. For us they made being in the space uncomfortable. A few table lamps would have made the place cozier.
All in all, we have no regrets about staying with Pietro, though would likely not for our future visits to Siracusa.

We had the pleasure of hosting Mark and his friend. I verbally, clearly told the guests to turn off the lights and air conditioners when leaving the house. It is a form of respect towards the owners, a normal thing, considering that there is no use for either the guests or the owners. We prefer to talk about it with the guests for a less cold form of communication than a written note. In fact, guests promptly left the external lights on for a day, forgetting to turn them off. I could have sent a message to warn the guests, I chose not to, so as not to make them uncomfortable, out of politeness. It can happen, it's no problem. The air conditioners in the house with the guests inside remained on all day, I don't think it was due to the cold, during the day we reached over 20 degrees of heat but rather because the guests had washed the entire wardrobe, all the personal clothes of the entire their stay in Italy. No problem but you can't think of drying clothes with air conditioners, it's like using a hair dryer to dry a sweater. I advised Mark to put the drying rack with the laundry outside in the sun, they would dry quickly, like all the guests do, it's more logical. Basically the house is not cold but air conditioners cannot be used to dry clothes. The floors are stoneware, the house was recently renovated and refurbished, frankly I'm not able to heat them, it's not a pizza oven. Never heard of such a thing. The lights are modern LED, there is the possibility of choosing the various brightness options in three solutions. I would have saved the term hospitalist, it is inappropriate and inappropriate, we don't have candles, we and the hundreds of guests we have had like it that way. We are also present on other Booking and Airbnb platforms, the reviews we have received gratify us and ensure that we continue to do our job as best as we can. Ours are holiday homes not hotels, those who travel understand. Frankly, regrets are useless in my opinion, much less criticism doesn't make anyone grow. For the future we wish to host people with acceptable expectations, communicative people, thank you.
Freundliche, aufmerksame Gastgeber.
