About the host
Hosted by John
We spend as much time as possible in the Peak District as we have roots here and love the landscape and way of life. We have been renting our cottage out since 2018 and have had over 100 visiting couples, families and groups of friends to stay with 99% great reviews. This was through an agency, but in 2022 we decided to leave the agency and do the bookings ourselves. Visitors have particularly remarked on the cleanliness, the good quality of the decor and renovations, the location and amenities, and that they feel at home as soon as they walk in. We stay in the cottage often and are always looking to improve the experience for ourselves and our visitors.
Why they chose this property
This looks like a classic cottage from outside, but unlike many cottages, it's a Tardis inside! It's roomy enough for proper chilling inside, but also perfect as a base for activities across the Peaks. It's well equipped, has a separate kitchen / diner and lounge, handy downstairs loo, and is super cosy.
The village is quieter and more relaxing than well known tourist places like Bakewell or Buxton, but is close to everything in the area. You can spend your break here without using your car because you can walk straight out of the door to enjoy teas, breakfast & lunch at the Aissford tea room; or drinks, lunch and supper at the Bull's Head or Ashford Arms pubs, and totally brilliant posh food at the Rafters restaurant. There are loads of walks, hikes and cycle rides to do on the many tracks and quiet lanes from the doorstep. Within 20 minutes with a car there are numerous pretty villages (including Bakewell with shops, antiques and eateries) as well as stately homes like Chatsworth House & Gardens and Haddon Hall. There is also a lively arts & crafts scene with many galleries and frequent exhibitions in the area,
