I don't think the photos on the website do it justice.
I don't think the photos on the website do it justice. It was spotless, well-appointed and bigger than expected. The hosts were wonderful; very friendly and helpful but they left you in peace. Their garden was wonderful and you could wander around their island at will. There was a lovely seating area right next to the river which we appreciated. The village was very friendly with a community run shop and there was an interesting heritage trail we followed. There was only one pub still open with somewhat restricted opening hours as another had recently closed and the hotel was boarded up but a 5 minute walk up the road took you to bus stops with hourly buses to Charlecote Park (alight at The Pheasant) and Stratford-upon-Avon in one direction and Warwick and Leamington Spa in the other. We made use of them each day. The friendly pub does takeaway curry but I don't think there was anywhere local to dine out. It wasn't a problem for us as the shop was well stocked and the facilities at the Writing Room very good. We will definitely go again.

The Writing Room is a delightful bolthole for seeing Stratford upon Avon, Warwick and area and easy to visit Birmingham. We needed to get to the NEC for Crufts and our dog was also welcomed by the friendly, laid-back owners. There is an excellent Indian restaurant within walking distance as well as two pubs. We made use of the free delivery offered and enjoyed a tasty curry, much needed after our long day.
The cottage is small but well laid out and everything we needed was there. You can also access the island in the River Avon, which is lovely.
We enjoyed a long weekend based there and will be back. Thank you.

Having a short break in winter is always hit and miss, we were lucky that the owners had back up heater on for us, blankets to snuggle under, hot water bottle. Only thing would say could do with back up heater in bathroom, the towel rail that supplied the heating was only on for certain times of the day, not when we wanted a shower. Lovely to have access to the garden and island.
