Nestled in a sea front position beside the shore of a west coast sea loch, in the peaceful village of Strachur, this stylish holiday cottage is light and airy with picture windows facing south and west, which fill the rooms with sunlight and give uninterrupted panoramic views over Loch Fyne and the mountains beyond. It is in an area of great natural beauty, lying between the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, the Argyll Forest Park, and the spectacular seascapes of the west coast of Argyll, yet is very accessible (approximately a 90-minute drive from Glasgow) and makes a perfect base for touring and walking.

Strachur village itself is well provided with amenities and has an excellent hotel which welcomes non residents for drinks and meals. The village also has a well-stocked general store with attached post office and tea room which serves informal meals, coffee and cake during the day. There is a filling station with shop which sells everything from food to logs for the fire. Both are within walking distance of the cottage.

There is a slipway close to the cottage where a small boat or kayak can be launched into Loch Fyne’s scenic waters in good weather and there are also also tennis courts in the village. A bit further afield there are interesting and historic towns and villages. Inveraray is the closest town. Oban, known as the ’Gateway to the Isles’, with its colourful harbour, and the dramatic mountains of Glencoe, near Fort William are scenic day excursions. In a different direction, the Kyles of Bute are nearby and in yet another direction, you pass through the mountainous scenery of the National Park to Loch Lomond with its cruise boats. Wildlife is abundant, there are some glorious gardens to visit and there are plenty of outdoor pursuits including walking and cycling.

The name of the area around Strachur is Cowal Peninsula, often called, ‘Argyll’s Secret Coast’. It is surrounded by the beautiful coastal scenery of Loch Fyne, the Kyles of Bute and the Clyde Estuary. There is a short ferry crossing from Colintraive to the Island of Bute, with its sandy beaches, historic Rothesay Castle, and the spectacular Mount Stuart House.

Away from the coast there are waterfalls, historic castles and the famous Benmore Gardens as well as many interesting and scenic walks and bike trails. Cowal also has a good selection of restaurants serving everything from an informal lunch to an exceptional dinner.

Internally the cottage has comfortable beds for a good night’s sleep and it has a well equipped kitchen with a separate dining area. A wood burner and upgraded settees in the lounge provide a cosy and relaxing retreat when you come back after a day of exploring the many scenic attractions in the area. Shop/bistro 1/4 mile, hotel pub 1/2 mile.

Spent a lovely week here and thoroughly enjoyed watching the ever changing Loch Fyne. We came to relax and that is exactly what we did. Views from lounge and front bedroom windows were wonderful. The cottage is very well equipped and was very clean and had been well prepared in light of current Covid advice. All in all an excellent stay. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Enjoyed a lovely week at Tigh An Uillt.
Enjoyed a lovely week at Tigh An Uillt. Plenty of information provided in advance of the holiday regarding travel directions, shopping etc. and the owners were quick to answer queries both in advance and during the holiday. The cottage is perfectly situated on the banks of Loch Fyne with superb views from the lounge and master bedroom. We were impressed with the measures taken to protect visitors and housekeeping staff during the pandemic and were provided with antibacterial sprays, hand gel etc. We were required to take our own towels which meant wedging them into the already full car but we felt this was a sensible precaution. The cottage is very well equipped which meant cooking was not the challenge it can sometimes be in holiday rental properties. Strachur is a small village with one general store/post office which also doubles for a cafe. The Creggan Inn is a 1 mile walk from the cottage. Inveraray where there are more cafes etc and a reasonable sized Co-op is a 25 minute drive around the head of the loch. Overall the perfect place to de stress.
