What makes The Loft truly unique is its location. At the start of the S.I. Wine Trail, the cabin is just minutes to Cedar Lake, 15 minutes from nationally award winning BBQ, delicious ice cream, shopping, and fun of all sorts! On a 70 acre organic farm, the cabin is tucked into a breathtaking valley next to the Shawnee National Forest and has a gourmet kitchen and is filled with antiques, games & play space, original eclectic artwork, plus toddler gear so you can travel light! You’ll love it!

The owners and manager live nearby and are very responsive to texts, emails and phone calls. If calling after 9pm or before 7am, please call twice in a row to bypass Do Not Disturb.

Please call Josh Brown, the owners for any maintenance related issues. Lisa Smith is happy to relay such information to them as well. If you would like suggestions about things to do or have general questions about the property please call Lisa.

Pomona is a small hamlet located outside of the Carbondale/Murphysboro area near Cedar Lake. Less than 5 minutes off of a main highway, it is just 15 minutes from shopping and supplies in Murphysboro and 25 minutes from Carbondale. From area wineries and breweries to hiking, shopping and eating award winning BBQ, there is a lot to do in the region. Read on to learn more!

ABOUT THE AREA
- Southern Illinois Wine Trail
A big draw for the region is the Shawnee Wine Trail. With over a dozen wineries in the area, there's no shortage of styles and cool places to visit! Many of them offer live music on the weekends when the weather is warm (which is most of the year), as well as delicious food and scenery that helps you kick back and relax. Let us know what style of wine you like and we can point you to some places you are sure to love! We can also help you make arrangements for a shuttled private tour! As us for details.

- Farmers Market, Fruit Stands & Agritourism
The Southern Illinois region is known as "Little Egypt" because of its proximity to the great Mississippi River and because of its fertile land! The region is full of farms, orchards, and groves of all sorts and hub of entertainment. Carbondale, plays host to one of the oldest farmers markets in the mid-west and is certainly one of the largest in the region! It is held on Saturdays in the Murdale Shopping Center area of Carbondale. So, if you are into cooking, you will love all of the heirlooms, unique varietals, and cottage industry products found at this terrific market. (Available April-November).

Want other culinary stops? Area towns have festivals, U-pick fruit farms, farm tours and other agritourism jaunts, as well as great area markets! Ask us what’s going on when you’ll be in town! We’re happy to help you make a memory.

- Rock Climbing, Hiking, Sightseeing & Water Sports
There is a little something for everyone in Southern Illinois. The region is famous for rock climbing, hiking, mushroom hunting, and water sport destinations!

Closest to the house - The Pomona Natural Birdge is within walking distance, Cedar Lake is just minutes away and is a great spot for getting on the water and picnics!

Check out the Shawnee National Forest - known for its annual snake migration every April!

Giant City Park with some of the best rock climbing to be had in the region!

Devil's Backbone, Crab Orchard Lake and the National Wildlife Refuge - terrific for bird watching - are other great natural attractions in the area! Trail of Tears State Park, . . . to name just a few.

Petroglyphs, drawings by Native Americans on rock faces and in caves, are something unique to the region. Visiting these sites is something like a treasure hunt for hikers and is perfect for history buffs, too!

- Restaurants & Things To Do
Just 15 minutes away in Murphysboro visitors will find 17th Street BBQ - voted the #1 BBQ in America by Bon Appetit magazine and the Food Network! There's also The Rule of Pie - which makes pies from scratch daily, Cummares Italian Restaurant, Brews Brothers pub and great antique stores and mom and pop shops downtown. The town also offers Riverside Park, which banks the Big Muddy River. The park is known for its dog park, paved walking trails and terrific playgrounds! And, though technically in the the town of Ava, Scratch Brewery draws people from all over to their craft brewery and restaurant, so when you come be sure to put them on your list. It's a small trek to get to, but is totally worth it!

Carbondale is the main hub for the region. It is about 20-25 minutes from The Barn using HWY 127. Carbondale is the home of the Salukis! Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a world class teaching and research institution. Like any college town, you can pick from any number of terrific restaurants and night spots or cruise out in the morning for a hot cup of coffee and from scratch breakfast at one of the many local restaurants. We love Harbaugh's, The Co-op, Longbranch Coffee House, Thai Taste, Newell House, Global Gourmet, The Hanger 9 Bar, and so many others. Please ask us for tailored suggestions! We are glad to help. The University Mall in Carbondale has a bevy of stores for shopping, plus a state of the art theater. If you are looking for something a little more mom and pop, the downtown area of Carbondale, plus the smaller towns in the area like Murphysboro and Cobden are just the ticket. They offer craft stores, antique shops, cool home goods and clothing stores and knickknack stores where bargain hunters can find a treasure!

Nearby, the town of Cobden is home to quaint art galleries, antique shops and restaurants such as the Yellow Moon Cafe, a hidden gem for great desserts, local fare, and live music on weekends. On the streets of Cobden you can also find the Taquería Pequeña, an amazing “little house of tacos” and The Old Feed Store, a music venue featuring local and national talent. The region has numerous festivals: Brew Fest, Wine Festivals, Murphysboro Apple Festival, music festivals of all sorts in downtown Carbondale. Both Carbondale and Murphysboro have fantastic Thursday night Sunset Concerts in the summer! Ask us about what might be going on during the time you plan to visit and we'll send you some great ideas!

Guests have full access to the house and grounds around the home. (The farm sheds and areas marked for employee use are not available to guests. Thank you.)

Sit next to a cracking fire drinking a glass of local wine and while away the hours relaxing with family and friends. The Loft is the perfect getaway spot being located near Cedar Lake, on the S.I. Another excellent stay

The house was just as great as we remembered it - perfect for a small family gathering with grandparents and children. The kitchen is so well equipped, the various sleeping options are perfect for families, and the property itself is beautiful. We also love the personal touches and artwork that make the house feel so warm. We will be back again!

Beautiful location and lovely cabin!

My husband and I loved our stay here! We traveled from Chicago to visit the snake road, and this was a perfect place to stay for a long weekend. The check in process was easy and everything in the cabin made our stay super convenient. The location was convenient to everything and we loved the nearby natural bridge hike! Highly recommend — we will be back to visit soon!

Most Luxurious Southern Illinois Cabin

My wife and I stayed in "The Loft" several years ago while visiting from Texas, and we loved it. This is by far the most luxurious and largest Southern Illinois cabin we've ever stayed in.

Eclipse 2024!

Third visit to the property, could not find a better spot for the total eclipse! The cabin is great, the location is secluded and quiet. It was very nice to meet the owner - he shared info about the farm and the property. Brought along extended family for the event and six adults had plenty of room. Looking forward to another visit soon!

We absolutely loved our week at 'The Loft'! Well appointed amenities, cozy linens, and a kitchen with anything and everything you may need! Great place for a great price!

Loved the property. Came in for a long weekend and the place as exactly as listed. Cabin was extremely clean and had plenty of kitchen utensils, pots and pans, etc. for cooking, if you choose. Property manager contacted us within 12 hours of checking in to ensure all was well. King bed was very comfortable. Plenty of linens, blankets, towels, and about anything else you would need. Highly recommend this property and we will book here again!

Our Holiday in the Shawnee

It is a beautiful, spacious, but cozy cabin. We enjoyed the open kitchen/great room with the wood burning stove. They put in the extra effort to have a Christmas tree for us. The appliances were modern and the jacuzzi tub was relaxing. We enjoyed exploring the grounds, the creek and the occasional turkeys. It was a great home base to enjoy hiking in the Shawnee and what Southern Illinois has to offer. We look forward to our next visit.

Perfect for a girls weekend

The Loft was perfect for our annual girls weekend. The seven of us had plenty of room and beds were very comfortable. We spent our nights on the deck gazing at the stars and our days visiting our favorite places. My niece enjoyed cooking many meals in the kitchen. It has everything you could possibly need. The front porch is a perfect place to sit and read or just catch up with friends. Our only complaint is that there is only one shower, but we worked out a schedule and would most definitly stay again.

Four of us stayed here for a relaxing break from our everyday hustle. It was simply perfect. Close enough to run to town, but far enough away to escape. Lisa was fantastic about offering any help or answering any questions. The cabin was spotless and full of amenities. Seriously, stop searching and just book it. Thank me later. ;)

If I could leave 4.5 rating it would be ideal!

Honestly our stay was gorgeous and the review I wanna leave even feels few and far between as far as complaints. The cabin was exactly what my friends and I were seeking to get back in touch with nature. We loved the reading nook before the front door. The kitchen and extensive spice rack was a delightful surprise, the great table was perfect for us to connect over meals and that jet tub was a phenomenal way to retire at night. Really the only things I'd say to that would have made this stay perfect was additional light sources surrounding the fire pit. Loved the outdoor amenities but as city slickers the pitch black of night time in the forest countryside was an adjustment and additional lighting circled around the fire pit would have made us feel more secure and at ease at night. Also curtains in the kitchen would have been nice at night too. The pitch black window was a little spooky at night. Again niche and few complaints, our stay was truly amazing and 10 out of 10 would recommend to our friends.

Remote Hiking Getaway

We had a great time at this cabin. We came to hike and enjoyed over 10 trails! It was in the middle of most hiking but over 2 hours from some as well. The nearby towns are very small with not much to offer so thank goodness we brought our food as we are vegetarian. We asked around noon if we could check in an hour early but did not get a response. We didn't realize it was in central time zone so arrived early so had to wait over an hour outside to get in. The manger finally responded at 345 but the code still did not work until 4 so that was rough after driving over 6 hours. The property is pretty much as stated however there was absolutely no creek with water next to the cabin. We were told by a ranger that there has been a drought the last 2 years and most are dried up so that was very disappointing as the picture was exact opposite. Some minor things to know, the heat is very loud for the back bedrooms that our child had trouble sleeping, the tub bathroom area is wide open to the office with a curtain so very little privacy that no one would use it, the road leading to cabin is all gravel which would have been nice to know. All in all it was a very nice stay and we would likely stay again.

Josh and Alexis have travelled all over the world, but they love to call Southern Illinois home! With three children and their various enterprises, they are a busy couple. Josh is originally from the area. After completing school he traveled Europe working as a chef. His love for food eventually turned toward organic farming, so in 2000, he and Alexis bought the 70 acre farm in Pomona. After renovating the properties and turning them into vacation rentals in 2009, Josh went on to play music in area bands and is now very involved in the region's entertainment industry helping to bring performers to the area. Alexis works as a stay-at-home mom, who also donates her time to many worthy causes in the Southern Illinois region.

Why they chose this property

CornerStone Cabins was created in 2009 by Josh and Alexis Brown, but there's more to the story behind the farm on which it is located. We moved into The Loft in August of 2000, and it was there we started a family of our own. Within a few months we began planning for construction on The Barn to be our first Southern Illinois vacation rental. Originally a horse barn with dirt floors, we had a plan to turn The Barn into a place of comfort and luxury. In 2005, after a few years of work and two children later, we decided to move into The Barn. Considering our growing family and the creation of such an extraordinary cabin, we couldn't resist.
With the most luxurious lodging on the Southern Illinois wine trail, CornerStone Cabins is looking to the future and growing to meet the needs of our guests. Though new to VRBO and HomeAway, we are thrilled to open the home to even more guests - meeting even more interesting people from all over!

We want to thank all of the countless friends and family members that helped to create a place of beauty and relaxation for all to enjoy. It could not have been possible without your help.

We would like to welcome you to your home away from home and we look forward to hosting your stay!

What makes this property unique

The Loft and its sister property, The Barn (#898667), are situated to protect visitors' privacy while also being close enough to enjoy larger gatherings with everyone staying in close proximity to one another. If you are interested in booking both, please let us know.

What our guests love most is our location! The scenery is gorgeous with rolling hills, lots of mature trees, a babbling creek nearby and lots of acreage in a safe rural location that is also convenient to town. There is so much to do in the area you'll want time to explore and see all the sites! That is why we have made weeklong stays so affordable!
