About this property
The Priory is a small country house; we’re about good times and friendly luxury.
Great for those family gatherings, groups of friends or residential retreats. Whatever the occasion, whenever the stay - we’re about good times and friendly luxury.
Situated on the doorstep of Hereford city, just 3 miles in one direction and rolling countryside in the other; close to the forest of Dean, the Welsh boarders, Brecon Beacon national park and the famous book town - Hay on Wye, to name but a few.
Tucked away down a no through lane, boasting lovely country side views, The Priory is situated in a small hamlet of houses and our own three acres of land. On your approach to the house you will find plenty of private parking.
The bedrooms
6 bedrooms, sleeping up to 12 adults, all en-suite; with the option to add three additional beds suitable for children sharing parent’s rooms. Please enquire directly for more information regarding extra beds in bedrooms or larger numbers.
Two x one bedroom apartments (sleeping 2 adults in each) which can be added to your booking.
Booked together we can sleep 16 plus children. Price quoted is for 12 people in the main house and does not include the apartments.
All bedrooms have been designed to convey that calm unfussy feeling. Super comfortable pocket sprung beds, duvets suitable for all seasons, plump pillows, crisp white bed linen and fluffy bath towels.
The details:
• located on the first floor with views of the garden
• En-suite with bath or shower
• Flat screen TV
• Free wifi
• Hair Dryer
• Toiletries – Myddfai Luxury Welsh bath and body products with a social conscience, supporting young adults with learning difficulties to achieve more.
The living space
High ceilings, wooden floors and original shutters set the style of this period former-rectory. Fully equipped with high quality furnishings, tv and bluray player, wifi access and cooking facilities that enable you to live as you would in your own home.
The cosy lounge is the space that brings family and friends together – stoke the fire, make yourself at home and relax on the sofa.
To catch a movie, head to the snug bar where you will find a bluray player and selection of films, a good book to read or games to play or why not bring your own games console to wire up to the tv for an evening of entertainment.
The bar fridge is ready for you to stock with your supplies for the weekend, you will find ice in your freezer, the rest is over to you, or I can place an order from my local wine merchant for you.
The kitchen/breakfast room is light and airy, the perfect space to fuel yourselves ready for a busy day exploring the county.
With tables big enough to seat you all and a well-equipped kitchen with all the mod cons, including an American fridge freezer, dishwasher, large oven and ceramic hob, you’ll soon whip up a feast.
You can go it alone with regards to food or you may wish to have a helping hand in the form of meals prepared for you to finish or a chef to cook a special dinner in your kitchen; you can relax and let the conversation flow as readily as the wine. With the option to add special extras like a bottle of fizz, homemade cake for the tin in the kitchen, or fresh hand-tied bouquet of flowers we have everything covered for you to make your stay extra special. Please ask for more information.
Washing machine and tumble drier facilities available.
Outside you will find well-kept lawns and a south facing flagstone terrace where you can enjoy alfresco dinning, perhaps a BBQ or a late afternoon sun downer. There is plenty of space for little ones to run around and stretch their legs whilst you relax on the outdoor furniture.
You could make the most of the outdoor space and add a hot tub to your booking, to while away the evenings in a flurry of bubble and steam. (Hot tubs are hired from a local company by yoursleves - please ask us for more information.)
The apartments
We have two one-bedroom apartments, separate to the main house but just as comfortable.
Bulmer duplex apartment and Scudamore ground floor apartment.
The living spaces are made up of a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and lounge, whilst in the bedrooms you will find a luxurious king-size bed and walk-in shower room. Perfect for 2, and a little one if required, these are a great addition to your house booking if you need a little more space. You can choose to add one or both apartments and we can adjust your quote to accommodate these.

What makes this property unique
There is a vast history to our house!
The Priory is a former rectory to the village church of St Mary Magdalene which stood on the site 1150-1877. When the church fell into disrepair, any parts that were salvageable were used to build a new church in the centre of the village of Stretton Sugwas. The house remained as the rectory until 1921, passed through numerous incumbent's, when it became a large family home before being turned into a hotel in the 1950's. The rest, as they say, is history.
There are many period features within the building that we have tried to retain sensitively, whilst making the house feel modern and welcoming.
