About the host
Hosted by Fay Herrmann

Although Norma's is a completely self-contained cottage on a large block of land, I live close by and can respond quickly to any requests or concerns you may have during your stay.
Why they chose this property
This unique German Settlers Cottage was the family home of several generations and Norma was the last of her family to live in it. Unfortunately she had no children, her husband dying within months of their marriage. The cottage has many original features including open fire. The most unique feature is the cellar/bakehouse in the large back garden. Once called The North Para Bakery it operated in the 1940's to supply bread to the American Troops who were housed at Sandy Creek.
The bakehouse was restored and used by my family for special celebrations. (It can take up to three days to get the Scotch oven hot enough.) As guests you can view it but unfortunately cannot use the oven due to insurance/safety restrictions.
If you have an interest in history there are numerous books on the Barossa area and various family histories of the early families.

What makes this property unique
Step back in time, when life was a little simpler. A basic four room cottage was generally the "norm" for families and families were generally quite large eg 12.
Make Norma's your own private little tranquil retreat after a day of wine tasting and site seeing or just relaxing by the open fire (backed by RC A/c) and no WiFi!
