About this property

The Barn - a little bit rustic, a little bit luxe

The Barn @pondicherri_village is a single room building constructed with thick stone walls and exposed internal timber beams. The building is aged over 100 years originally containing a tiny window on the south side and one door with a dirt floor. Outside the Barn, you will spot a remnant stone wall standing proud in the paddock - part of another barn!

Today, the Barn is furnished with a very comfortable super-sized king bed complete with crisp white sheets and natural fibre quality bed linens. In winter, you will keep very toasty with the individual dual zoned electric blankets. The bed is so spacious, it is also perfect for travelling family members or good friends to share!

For your entertainment, there is a smart TV with free access to Netflix, Stan, and Google Chromecast and other apps such as UTube to watch movies, videos, news - any program - while you cozy up in bed and/or access the NBN fixed wireless network for all your modern communication needs. Or, if you are on a work/ flexcation break, you can set yourself up on the drop leaf table or maybe, just stay in bed! And for ambient comfort, a reverse cycle air conditioner keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter.

An eclectic separate dressing area showcases a large gilded mirror, a vintage secretaire containing a hairdryer, an umbrella alongside hanging racks complete with two bathrobes for your use. A fold-out ironing board with iron is provided. There you will also find a basket to take along to the Barossa Farmers Market open every Saturday morning, and only a 5-minute drive away. We also supply some ‘almost’ vintage games and game boards for your enjoyment.

A small kitchenette contains a kettle, microwave, toaster, and fridge to ensure you have everything you need for a comfortable stay. If you wish to cook, you have access to the Pug Lounge - the undercover outdoor space containing comfy lounges with a Weber BBQ and cooking space. All other additional cooking equipment is portable and plug in.

There is no running water in the Barn, but we do provide a handmade 2-litre capacity ceramic water purifier system that removes nearly all contaminants including fluoride. The water purifier can be replenished with town potable water from the Wash House with the stainless steel jug that is provided in the Barn.

The north-facing deck is totally private and is a wonderful sunny spot to start your day. You may even see a hot air balloon on the distant horizon - sometimes above! Later, you can sip your glass of Barossa wine with the occasional spotting of kangaroos in the paddocks. On a clear night, the night skies and the Milky Way are stunning! Download a stargazing app and find the different constellations.

Buy some local yummy delicacies and enjoy! It relaxing, peaceful, and rejuvenating - especially for city folk - or so we are told!

The lockable private shower room and separate toilet are a short walk from The Barn and are located in the Wash House that is semi-attached to the (circa 1845) historic original settlers building - The Pug House built of mud/straw and stone. Take a step back in time and ‘walk the walk’ of the original Barossa settlers - but these wash facilities are modern-day!

In the warmer months, you will have access to a 12 x 3.5 metre swimming pool. It is a shared space enjoyed by us but mostly you will find you can enjoy the pool by yourself.

It is what is on the inside that counts! We live on the property too and we are gradually upgrading the grounds but you will be very comfortable and importantly - very private.

However, if you are older or maybe have the need for suburban indoor comforts and/or a frequent night toilet user - the Barn might not be for you! The Barn is a mix of old and new experiences. It shares the nuances of glamping but it’s neither a hotel room experience, a house nor an apartment! You can even leave the dunny door open with views! And at night, your gifts are the sparkling diamonds in the night sky! If you think you can enjoy this type of experience, we warmly welcome you to book with us at Pondicherri Village and The Barn.

Quaint and secluded
We didn’t think we were going to like the rustic place but strangely we did. We felt very comfortable in the large bedroom and there was everything we needed. Loved sitting on the little deck in the sunshine. The bathroom facilities are very modern and only a short walk from the bedroom. Thank you.

This was a lovely place to stay for a night or two. The barn has a very comfy king bed, big TV with streaming services provided and a very thoughtful array of tea/coffee/hot choc. It does have the bathroom facilities (including all sources of running water) in a separate block about 10m from the barn. The hosts were friendly and their pug is super cute.

Winter stay at The Barn
Spent 2 nights at the Barn and despite the wet and woolly weather we enjoyed our time here. Would get even more out of our stay in the warmer months what with the lovely outdoor areas. Highly recommend eating at Harvest Kitchen near by

Definitely will be back
Fantastic little cottage. Quiet, peaceful, homely and so relaxing. Came complete with absolutely adorable black pug and a very friendly cat that decided that sleeping with us on our first night was the way to go. Very clean and private too. 10/10.

About the host

I love to travel but not enough. I love to cook and share my table with family and friends. I love the smell of a newly picked lemon and fresh bunches of herbs. I love my little animals and the flocks of different birds that play and swoon across Pondicherri. I’m social and then sometimes, I’m a bit reclusive. I love the stillness and promise of a dawning sunrise more than the peace and surrender of a sunset, but both are spectacular, and I’m blessed to experience and appreciate it often. I’m grateful for living in a place that affords peace and privacy. And I enjoy meeting people!

Why they chose this property

Set on 5 acres, Pondicherri is a small acreage landholding with a cluster of small buildings and exudes a rustic village atmosphere. Its borrowed rural amenity and views are enabled as it is surrounded by much larger farming land creating a quiet private oasis yet close to everything within the Barossa Valley. Some of the buildings are of historic interest and date back to 1845.

What makes this property unique

We are only 5 minutes drive to the pretty historic village of Angaston that is well serviced with a varied selection of cafes, restaurants, 2 pubs, a supermarket, butcher, hardware, medical centre, post office and houses specialty Barossa food businesses. We are a 5-minute drive from the famed Barossa Valley Farmers Market that is open every Saturday morning. There are many high-quality wineries, restaurants, food establishments, and historic buildings to explore across the region. If food and wine are not your things, there are numerous walking and cycling trails, some easy bushwalks including spotting kangaroos at Kaisersthul Conservation Park. Or you could go ballooning or go for a helicopter ride for the bird's eye view! Just about everything except surfing! But we are about one hour's drive to the nearest South Australian coastline, only one hour drive into the city of Adelaide and a one hour drive to the Adelaide Hills area. There is so much to do and explore in this beautiful part of Australia. Welcome to Pondicherri Village and The Barn - a little bit rustic, a little bit luxe, and a whole lot of soul comfort.
