About this property
House of the Rising Sun
Per Oahu law, all bookings must be for a minimum of 29 nights. If you plan to stay less than 30 days, that's OK but your booking will still be for 30 days per Oahu Law and the monthly rental fee will NOT be pro-rated based on the actual number of days you plan to occupy the house. Please read more below about Oahu's law for vacation home rentals.
Our house is uniquely situated inside the beautiful Kokololio State Beach Park and the treats guest to spectacular sun rises as you see in the pictures.
ABOUT OUR HOUSE:
Our house is located in Laie, which offers a lot of relaxation in an unspoiled part of Hawaii that remains very Polynesian in culture (i.e. very warm and friendly). The Polynesian Cultural Center, Oahu's most visited attraction, is just 1 mile up the road.
The location of the house is unique. The house sits inside a beautiful state beach park. We have a 120-degree view of the ocean from the large covered deck. The only thing between our house and the beach is 40 steps across the grass field.
We call it the "House of the Rising Sun" as most mornings you will wake up to spectacular sun rises.
Also, the beach easily ranks as one of the best in Hawaii. You will find yourself taking spectacular morning and evening beach walks. Because our beach is behind a reef, there are no big waves so you can swim year-round.
To our left, for 3/4 mile there are no houses along the beach. Just tropical park trees. You really feel like you are on a tropical island. The beach is wide and the ocean is all sandy bottom. To our right there is great snorkeling and there is a popular local ocean playground the locals call the "Alligator Pond" because a series of rocks in the water look like an alligator from afar. Kids love the pond because the water is shallow and warm so even toddlers can play without any waves (which are caught by those rocks). They get fascinated by the little tropical fish swimming around in the pond.
Also, to the left there are great areas for bigger kids (9+) to safely boogie board as the waves are just big enough to get some nice rides.
The best feature of the house is the large deck which is covered by the upstairs part of the house. Because trees to our right shield the house from Ocean winds you can enjoy every breakfast, lunch and dinner out on the deck overlooking the park and ocean. That is really relaxing!
OAHU VACATION RENTAL LAW EXPLAINED
Oahu's government requires the following statement in every ad: "This property may not be rented for less than 30 consecutive days! The monthly rental fee will not be reduced or increased based on the number of days the rental is used."
Question: What does that mean? Can we rent your house for 10 days?
Answer: NO! You can stay at our house for 10 nights, or 15, 21 etc. But your booking MUST be for at least 30 days and the cost is the rent for the full month.
Question: Why can I not just pay for 10 days?
Answer: Because the Oahu law on vacation rentals requires that all rental contracts are for 30 or more days. So the rent has to be an amount per month, not per night.
Question: Pay for a full month plus tax sounds like we would waste money if we only want to stay 10 nights.
Answer: Just look at other properties right by the beach with 3 or 4 bedrooms and you will see that our rate is far lower than most of the others.

Your host

I enjoy helping visiting families get the most out of their time at our house. I have gathered lots of information about things to see and do in our immediate area and around the island. You will receive all that info upon booking.
Why they chose this property
We used to own a house in Hauula on the Mountain side of the Kam Highway. Everything was great except the noise from the road. So in 2004 we jumped at the chance to buy this house as it sits away from the road inside a gorgeous park along nearly a mile of tropical beach. From the large deck, you enjoy 120-degree views of the ocean plus a nice overview of the park. The beach is just 40 steps across the park field. As guest after guest confirms, the location is totally unique and has allowed them to have an unforgettable family vacation. We have great neighbors who enjoy the interaction with our visitors. Juli, our property manager, lives in the house across the road and is always available to help our guests with anything they may need.
