Currawong Cottage Vivonne Bay
Currawong Cottage is nestled in the dunes, adjacent to the coastal reserve. Surrounded by native bush it is a haven for birds and wildlife. Perfect peace and seclusion with just the sound of the waves breaking, and only a short walk to the stair case leading down to the beach. The cabin comprises a large well equipped country kitchen and living area, three bedrooms (one with a double bed and trundle, the other with a queen-sized bed, ensuite and ante-room), and a sleepout with a single bed and double bunk. The main bathroom has a large old fashioned bathtub, with shower. There are extensive verandahs and decks with a gas barbeque and outdoor dining areas. You can catch the morning sun or settle down with a book and an apple in the afternoon (after wearing the kids out on the beach.) A lovely rustic feel, with all the comforts of home.

Lovely rustic cabin in a great location. There are other beach shacks/houses around but, as it’s nestled in the scrub, the cottage feels secluded. Well equipped kitchen, nice deck area to hang out on and an easy walk to the beach. Prompt and friendly communication with the owner. Thank you!

Glad you appreciated our lovely little hideaway Donna. Love to welcome you back some time.

Brilliant rustic cottage just next door to the beautiful beach. And perfect for dogs with enclosed outdoor space. Just wished we could have stayed longer.
We had a great time - great property for families. Good location for exploring southern KI. We did minimal cooking (mostly breakfasts and some sausages one night), but kitchen had everything we needed and more. Local general store was convenient, but I'd come prepared with most of the food you want.I didn't find the "Spa whirlpool/Hot tub", but wouldn't have impacted our booking.

Hi Andrea
Glad you enjoyed Vivonne Bay. Sorry about the missing hot tub. I listed a bath and I suspect AI has embelished it. I have had one go at changing it. I'll try again.
Kind Regards Heather
This is a great holiday home, well protected from wild weather, yet very close walk to the beautiful Vivonne Bay beach. Comfy beds and couches, 2 showers and loved the bath.Host was excellent in her responses and a late checkout greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much for a wonderful stay! The house was perfect for our family. Clean and welcoming, had all the amenities we could ask for and the perfect cottage vibe. We loved the games and movie selections, such a bonus! Proximity to the beach and flinders chase made for easy day trips and was great as well. Highly recommend for anyone looking to explore KI.
Easy access to the house, lovely charming rustic house, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, good collection of reading material, in a beautiful location amongst the sand dunes of Vivonne Bay
Very homey and comfortable house. Spacious rooms and great living area. Outside verandah well set-up - would be great to spend time out there on a warm day. All in all, very happy with our home away from home.
We enjoyed our 5 night stay very much. Loved the back track through the bush to the beach. Beds were comfortable. Vivonne Bay whiting burger was delicious. Close to attractions we saw - Seal Bay, Little Sahara buggy tour, raptor show, Flinders Chase NP inc Kelly Hill cave, admirals arch, remarkable rocks, honey and spirits.
We have had the best holiday -comfortable, clean with easy beach access as well as central to everything we wanted to do. Highly recommend Currawong Cottage.
Third time staying at Currawong Cottage, great place, quiet and peaceful, lots of wildlife and beautiful Vivonne Bay Beach! Thanks for being dog friendly! Highly recommended!

Real old style beach house in a good location close to the bay but protected from sight - plenty of room both inside and out in the verandas. Easy drives to restaurants and plenty of sights to see

About the host
Hosted by Heather Burgess
Hi. My name is Heather Burgess I am a physiotherapist, now semi retired. I have lived in Adelaide all my life, much of it in the Adelaide hills. My partner Max and I now live in Athelstone overlooking Black Hill Conservation Park. I have always loved the outdoors and the Australian bush. I am a keen bushwalker and grower of native plants. Max and I generally have a dog in our life and currently we are trying to domesticate a lively staghound puppy called Rupert. We get over to Kangaroo Island as often as we can.
Why they chose this property
I first fell in love with Kangaroo Island on a visit with friends as a Uni student in 1972. I found Vivonne Bay when I brought my parents and young children over for an Easter visit in the late 80s. Looking for somewhere not too far from the west end attractions ( to avoid the " Are we there yet?" chorus from the back seat) I took a chance and booked a house here. In 2002 I brought my new maybe partner Max to the Island to test his bushwalking stamina. He passed so I thought I should show him my favourite beach (here of course). As chance would have it there was a stunning block of land for sale tucked behind the coastal reserve. Max said "buy it and I will build you a house". And he did - the beautiful Currawong Cottage. Not bad for a hairdresser with no building experience. I have kept both of them. Now my grown up children and my grand children love to come and stay. We have such happy times here with friends and family and we are pleased to think that others can come and enjoy our special place.
What makes this property unique
The mid south coast location is perfect for accessing all of the Island"s attractions. Nothing is too far away for a leisurely day trip. The beach is stunning. Voted Australia's best beach two years running in a Sydney University survey. Currawong Cottage is as close as you can get to the beach. It is cute, private and secluded. Birds and other wild life frequently visit the garden. Air conditioned for summer and winter comfort with a wood heater for atmosphere and extra cosiness. All up to date kitchen appliances and an old style Victorian bathtub in the main bathroom. A perfect mixture of quirky and convenient with great atmosphere. You can't help but relax and unwind.
