About this property
*Barrenjoey Hideaway*
Welcome to the heart of the Adelaide Hills at beautiful Barrenjoey Hideaway! Our charming property provides guests with the perfect opportunity to experience a wonderful farm stay surrounded by magnificent countryside and superb gardens, while being a short 40 minute drive from the Adelaide CBD.
Barrenjoey offers a fabulous escape for up to 6 adults and 3 children and features spacious, relaxing accommodation, with three separate sleeping areas with queen beds. There are extra bunks for children (at the end of the main part of the house), along with a fully equipped kitchen and laundry, plus two bathrooms and toilets.
Couples can experience the romance of a beautiful four-poster bed in our 1880s cottage, which incorporates olde world charm with the more modern attached house. Barrenjoey is also a perfect escape for families, with huge outdoor areas to explore along with cubbies and swings for kids, as well as plenty of indoor fun. We also welcome dogs to Barrenjoey; our accessible areas provide great play opportunities, along with a dam to swim in.
Barrenjoey is an active AgroForestry concern and our focus in those areas has been maintaining our native gums. Surrounding the house and cottage are acres of gardens; they are a combination of large, mature trees, smaller native shrubs and potted colour, and expansive areas of lawn. We also have developed a small orchard, plus we have a large veggie area for vegetables and herbs (which guests are welcome to use - produce is seasonal). There are multiple areas around the house to sit and simply enjoy the solitude and the view, and to hear and watch the beautiful selection of birdlife. Our two ponds provide a wonderful home to different varieties of Adelaide Hills frogs. And the distant calls from cows and sheep can often be heard from our neighbouring properties.
Barrenjoey is situated on historic Winton Road, which lies between Gumeracha and Birdwood. It is a very scenic, quiet dirt road and in many parts is lined with massive, old river red gums. There are many attractions within easy reach of Barrenjoey, including the Motor Museum in Birdwood and the Big Rocking Horse in Gumeracha. Further afield there is the Gorge Wildlife Park, an easy 15 minute drive to Cuddly Creek. There are also many fantastic wineries in the surrounding townships and beyond, such as Lobethal Road, Golding Wines and Glen Ewin Estate. The Barossa Valley lies a very reasonable distance away, about 25 minutes drive through some gorgeous countryside. During the summer months, one of the biggest cherry farms in the Southern Hemisphere, Torrens Valley Orchards, offers unlimited supplies of sweet cherries. We are lucky to have them situated at Forreston, right at the turnoff to Winton Road. The farmers market at Mount Pleasant, a short 15 minute drive away, is open every Saturday. Artisans, growers and producers from the area meet between 8am and 12 midday to provide visitors and locals with a unique and affordable food shopping experience.
Whether you are visiting Barrenjoey as a couple, a family, a group or even for your wedding celebrations, we always prioritise your unique requirements, ensuring your stay is a special one!

Why they chose this property
Garry and I first saw and fell in love with Barrenjoey Hideaway in June 2009 and have been passionately running our beautiful 42 acre farm as holiday accommodation since June 2010. Since then we have seen thousands of wonderful guests drive in to experience an unforgettable farm stay. We also love to welcome back our many return guests who over the years have seen the farm evolve. They delight in the many changes they see from year to year and season to season.
To discover and study the history of Barrenjoey from its beginnings way back in 1856 - when Johann and Maria Muller found themselves in Adelaide all the way from Germany and built their first little cottage, now just a ruin -we can see how this farm has been loved; we are fortunate enough to now call her ours.
Garry and I put as much into Barrenjoey as we take from it. We delight in being able to share it with you all!

What makes this property unique
Simply said, we think there is no other property like it! We waited a long time to find the right place for us, and this 42 acre, historic farm has everything one could wish for.
Barrenjoey is set on a beautiful, quiet dirt road, but not too far off the beaten track, being only 3.5km from Birdwood; it has magnificent views from every aspect of the house and its surrounds, and it has sprawling gardens which we spend every spare moment maintaining and improving.
Native birdlife is abundant, from sulphur crested cockatoos and other parrots to kookaburras and to small, fragile finches, and our resident blue wrens are testament to how one can become quite mesmerised with bird watching! Frogs happily croak nearby in our ponds, and our resident mob of kangaroos are at home wherever they may be grazing on the property.
There are many varied areas of our farm to explore, from the acres of gardens to our untouched, native hill area, to our forest with 3 dams. Fragile ruins indicate her age. And our front verandah is perfect to just sit and listen, watch and enjoy. You will discover something new each time!
The house and cottage are roomy, with three large sleeping areas, all set a reasonable distance from each other, along with two bathrooms and toilets. Bunks for 3 are at the end of the main house. The kitchen is superbly equipped with every type of utensil and crockery/cutlery item you will need, plus many extras. The laundry is fully equipped with washing machine and dryer.
Our combustion heater keeps the house warm and cosy during winter, and all timber is cut, stacked and free of charge from our agro forest. During the summer months the house and cottage stay cool with two reverse cycle air conditioners.
An undercover area gives unparalleled views and is ideal for drinks, meals and small gatherings. A large gas BBQ is provided, along with ample seating for up to 20.
