About this property
Sleepy Wombat Cottage
Sleepy Wombat Cottage is a fully self-contained forest retreat, yet is only minutes away from the vibrant village of Warburton. The riverside township bustles with cafe's and quirky shops and is host to a delightful range of festivals from comedy, film, harmony, music and many more.
The romantic spa cottage provides all the cosy comforts for a relaxing getaway. Recline on the sofa in front of a crackling wood fire or sit outside on a balmy summer evening listening to the wildlife or feeding the birds.
For the more active minded the cottage is perfectly located close to the Warburton river walk or a few minutes drive to the rainforest galary and Mount Donna Buang itself. Literally at the bottom of the hill is the locally renowned COG cafe where you can hire bikes to explore the Warburton to Lilydale rail trail. Golf and tennis are also within a stones throw.
Please note: Long (700m), fairly steep & windy gravel driveway, safe for all standard vehicles.
While currently require a 2-night minimum stay to maintain COVID-safe cleaning practices, however, you are welcome to inquire for single night stays for mid-week bookings.
Eco-friendly sustainable environment
We aim to maintain the surrounding forest as a haven for wildlife. The property is fully sustainable for water and uses 100% green electricity. We ask that you respect the environment and minimise your footprint.
The property supports permaculture styled local produce growing and there is a small orchard being developed behind the cottage.
The cottage is not suitable for young children as there is an unfenced dam on the property and in wintertime the wood fire is a risk to small fingers. Babies may however be accommodated and a port-a-cot is available on request.
A few home comforts
The cupboards are well stocked with a selection of teas, coffee (& coffee pod machine) and cooking condiments. Milk will be in the fridge for your arrival.
Ample firewood is available to top up the basket should you need it for the wood fire or outside brazier during winter stays.
Picnic basket and rug are ready for you to take on your outings.
Deciding on activities is made easy with information on local attractions, maps, menus, bike hire, tours and event calendar available.
Torches are also on hand for night-time possum or koala spotting or to guide you up the track from a night out in the village.
Please note there is no wifi at the Cottage but generally good reception across mobile carriers for hot spotting.

About the host
Hosted by Hazel Clothier

We are a family of 4 with 2 dogs (spoodles), 2 cats and 3 alpacas! I am Captain of the local fire brigade (so I apologise in advance if you here me going out at strange times!) and love supporting the community of Waburton!
Why they chose this property
Just a great place to get away and be in the heart of the bush, yet only minutes from a cute and friendly village - best of both worlds!
