The House & Grounds

Cheeky Fox Retreat boasts six large bedrooms and three bathrooms, providing comfortable accommodations for up to 12 guests. Five of the bedrooms offer luxurious twin share options, while the master bedroom features a king-size bed, plus its own ensuite bathroom.

The spacious living and dining areas, fully equipped kitchen, and additional facilities, including a private cinema, library and solar-heated swimming pool, ensure that your stay is both comfortable and memorable.

A sun-drenched veranda wraps around the entire house offering views of the ranges to the east and garden views to the west. There is always a perfect place to take a seat and watch the world go by, including a relaxing day bed and sun loungers beside the pool.

The Property

Cheeky Fox Retreat is surrounded by the beauty of the Kinglake Ranges. Set on 50 acres of picturesque farm and bushland, you'll enjoy breathtaking views and ever-changing scenery with each season.

There is a small olive grove, and fruit orchard to discover, with open paddocks beyond, home to our friendly sheep. Explore the private bush tracks in the 20 acres of native bush on the property and delight in hearing the melodies of native bird song while you walk, including kookaburras, cockatoos, magpies and lyrebirds. You may even meet some of the local wildlife on your journey, such as wallabies, wombats and kangaroos.

The night sky is vast and clear, offering incredible full moon and star gazing opportunities, and the sunrises and sunsets are spectacular.

Activities

We take great pride in helping guests and retreat hosts create unforgettable experiences at Cheeky Fox Retreat.

We have a network of local partners and activities that can be added onto your stay, including Yarra Valley wine tours, yoga, massage, workshops, art classes, team building activities, entertainment and more.

Special occasions are enhanced by our private chef dining experience. Enjoy a 3-course meal served to you in the formal dining room with all cleaning up taken care of. You don’t even have to leave the property to experience the nearby Yarra Valley wine region, we bring it to you with an in-house wine tasting provided by a local winemaker.

We also offer a picnic in the paddock experience with everything you'll need to enjoy a beautiful, rustic paddock picnic, including lawn games. Simply add food & drinks and you are good to go!

Accessibility

The house is all on one level, however there are two steps to get onto the veranda, which wraps around the house. There are several wide entrance doors that can be accessed from the veranda. Inside, rooms are spacious, and the bedrooms have various bed heights to suit different needs. The master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom, but it does not have a step-free shower or grab rails. Please contact us for a floor plan and to discuss options to support those with mobility limitations - we are happy to help.

Location

Located just over an hour northeast of Melbourne and only 20 minutes to the Yarra Valley wineries, Kinglake is a rural township that feels a world away from the city. The Kinglake Ranges represents the boundary between the traditional lands of the Taungurung people to the north, and the Wurundjeri people to the south. We acknowledge and respect their continuing connection to country and pay our respects to Elders past and present.

The region offers a diverse range of nature-based attractions. Discover the majesty of the Kinglake National Park, explore its walking tracks and stunning waterfalls, and embrace the cooler climate that comes with being some 600 metres above sea level.

The Kinglake township, a short drive from the property, has everything you’ll need to enjoy a stress-free time away, including a small supermarket, pub, takeaway, cafes and an op shop.

Guest Access

Your group will always have exclusive access to the house and immediate grounds, including the swimming pool. Guests are welcome to explore the wider property, however, note that your hosts also reside in a separate dwelling on the property, and as it is a working hobby farm, may be seen in the paddocks tending to the sheep or walking the dog during your stay.

As your hosts, we'll be available to work with you and make sure your stay or retreat is perfect in every way.

We aim to greet all our guests on arrival, and we reside in a separate dwelling on the property (well away from the house) so won't be far away if needed.

CF Retreat was divine for our getaway. The house perfectly catered for our large group of adults and children (school age and infant) and includes wonderful features for relaxing. We sat by the fire, enjoyed the view and made the most of the cinema room! Birthday Weekend with family.

We celebrated my sixtieth birthday with my four children and partners. This venue was perfect for us ,as was the weather .The view was brilliant morning and night . The house was the perfect size for everyone to feel comfortable ,everything provided was perfect and we even saw the cheeky fox sneaking across the paddock!! Thoroughly recommend!!

Cheeky Fox Retreat is the most fabulous property - I cannot recommend it highly enough. We have had two large family gatherings there and both times the space allowed us to spend a top quality time. Some of the best features, in our experience: * individual bedrooms with flexible bedding options - so great to be able to accommodate a large group comfortably and with everyone having access to their own private space * spacious living areas that allow the group to spend time together yet without being cramped - separate dining room with a huge dining table , amazing library with sofa and chairs, lounge room with couches, stereo and tv, another large dining table right near the kitchen with a gorgeous view (great for hanging out over a wine and chatting to those on cooking duties), seating on the veranda, outdoor setting near the pool and of course the cinema room (the pool and cinema have been a hit with the kids) * both times the house has been immaculate with everything we needed ready for us, if we had questions or extra requirements, the owners were extremely responsive and helpful * the location is just stunning, such a relaxing place to be - and the absolute luxury of the house is hard to match * for interstate travellers (we had a few), it's also a very handy location to Tullamarine airport, which really helps. I have no doubt you will enjoy this property as much as we have. We will be back for sure, it has helped us create many great memories and we look forward to more.

Perfect getaway

The house had everything and more than we expected. .The views from all rooms was so beautiful.The hosts were there to provide you with help or anything you required without being intrusive. the children spent many hours exploring the forest and spending time with the animals.. Relaxing space for the whole family

Cheeky Fox was the perfect spot for our family holiday. Linda and Jason made us feel right at home, were super approachable and accommodating from the get go. The property is stella with it's stunning views, you can chill by the pool, veg out in the cinema room and finish the day off with a BBQ and drinks on the decking. As our weekend fell on a hot one we didn't get out and about much but look forward to exploring the area on the next visit. With everything you need to sit back relax and enjoy, Cheeky Fox nailed it! We had an amazing time at Cheeky Fox and Linda the owner was incredibly helpful. I was hosting a number of friends for a weekend away and Linda helped me make it a magic and memorable experience, with booked activities including a chef dinner in the house, yoga and a wine/cheese tour. The house itself is also blissful. Honestly the photos don't fully do it justice. The view past the pool and over the rolling hills is delightful. The house is well appointed and very comfortable. Overall it's one of the best house stays I've had. Thanks Linda, we'll have to come back.

Excellent place to stay! Cheeky fox retreat isn’t too far from Yarra Glen. Our family had wonderful time stay there over weekend. Linda and Jason provided such friendly and warm welcome on first day when we arrived the house. Meanwhile, took us with little kids around the area next early morning, we all enjoy the walk and spent quality of time at Kinglake. Relaxing and refreshing!! Definitely will go back again

An amazing country retreat with stunning views

We had the absolute pleasure of staying at the Cheeky Fox for our annual girls weekend away. Every single one of us were blown away by this perfect country retreat and Linda and Jason have ensured you want for nothing. From the beautiful bedrooms that comfortably fit our larger group of ladies, the large fully equipped country kitchen and dining areas, the cinema room and the views that stretch for miles it was the perfect getaway. Linda and Jason were such wonderful hosts even taking us for a walk along the walking trails and went above and beyond when one of the girls lost her phone during the walk going back to find it for her. You have the luxury of being in a place that feels so far away from the hustle of the city life when it is just a short trip from Melbourne. It’s location is perfectly situated close to the Yarra Valley and all it has to offer. It’s an absolute gem and we can’t wait to come back again next year.

Glorious views and excellent facilities!

On arrival we were greeted by our host Linda, who gave us a quick tour of the house. We were impressed by the facilities on offer including the cinema, but the view over the valley was the most impressive aspect. The house was a fantastic venue for our extended family - plenty of room for us to spread out or to gather together. Our two young grandsons loved the space around them and the friendly sheep in the yard! We enjoyed the wildness of the bush block as well as all the comforts of home. Thanks Linda and Jason for your hospitality and a fantastic long weekend. We'll definitely be returning for an extended stay.

A Kinglake gem with everything you could want

Our group of 8 women loved Cheeky Fox Retreat! The property was beautiful. Linda and Jase were kind enough to take us for a walk down through the bush at the back of the property. It felt like we were really in the country! The house was very clean and big- it worked fabulously for our needs. The seven bedrooms were all down one end so if anyone wanted to head off to bed early they could still have peace and quiet. There is a beautiful formal dining room that they cleared out for us one morning so we could do in house yoga. Our in house massage was in the library in the next room. The open fire in the main living was exactly what we wanted and the kitchen had everything we could have needed. Cheeky Fox Retreat also made our booking for lunch at Oakridge winery and organised return transport for us which was very helpful. Overall a fantastic weekend only an hour from Melbourne. Highly recommended! Thanks Cheeky Fox!

amazing getaway!

From the moment we got to the property we fell in love. We were greeted by Jason and his beautiful dog. We were blown away by the house and the view and felt instantly at home. The country feel and the relaxed vibe were absolutely amazing, we were lucky enough to have the best weather being able to swim during the days and sitting by the fire at night. As we were celebrating my dad's 60th birthday we enjoy some of the extras that Linda and Jason offer, in house wine tasting with Sutherland estate which was an incredible experience and also a private dining experience at cheeky fox estate. It was amazing to be able to put the children to bed and enjoy a 3 course meal. I can highly recommend Cheeky Fox Estate as a amazing family getaway. The children loved exploring the property and feeding the animals. We will be back.

We absolutely LOVED Cheeky Fox retreat! The house was very accommodating and had everything we needed for a nice weekend away. The house was very clean and everything worked perfectly. A beautiful, spacious home with a killer view!

We used Cheeky Fox retreat as a weekend getaway with our interstate friends, and we could not have been be more impressed. It was a great location for us, a real country retreat just one hour from the airport. On arrival we were blown away with the sheer size of the home and the bedrooms. The property was clean, well-maintained and well appointed with 3 fridges, 3 bathrooms, 3 toilets and an actual cinema room. Linda and Jase greeted us with breakfast items, gave us a quick tour then left us to enjoy the weekend by the pool with spectacular views over the Kinglake area. Over the course of the long weekend we enjoyed a game of Golf in Wittlesea and a winery tour with Yarra Valley transfers. We loved it so much, we're already planning our next trip back to Cheeky Fox Retreat. Thank you Linda and Jase!

We are a friendly and respectful couple who are fond of all the good things in life - food, wine, music, films, socialising and travel. We initially bought this property as a country escape and for six years divided our time between here and a unit in the city. However, the pull of the country got us in the end, and we are now proud to call Kinglake home.

Why they chose this property

With family in the area, we were frequent visitors to Kinglake and its proximity to Melbourne made it the ideal location for a country 'weekender'. We fell in love with this property straight away with its large, well laid out house, swimming pool, rural aspect, and incredible views. It was certainly more than we needed but we knew it had the potential to help us realise our dream of living and running a business in the country. So, we took the plunge and now consider ourselves incredibly lucky to be living that dream!

What makes this property unique

The house and property have such a warm, welcoming feel that everyone who visits instantly feels right at home. With several living spaces and six large bedrooms, it is perfect for large groups to spread out while still feeling like a cosy, country farmhouse. The sense of space continues into the surrounding paddocks and bushland on the property, with over 2 kilometres of tracks to explore.
