About the host
Hosted by Karen Wallwork

My husband and I are now back in Perth but we lived at Cliff Beach House for several months when it was first built. I call it my happy place and I can't wait to move back when my husband retires.
Why they chose this property
Yallingup really is paradise. We both love the region. We are surrounded by national park, we have beautiful bays and beaches on our doorstep and the marine and bird life is abundant.
This region offers healthy living and a multitude of recreational activities that we enjoy. We can walk to the beach for a swim or surf, ride our bikes along scenic bush tracks to a local boutique brewery, buy warm freshly baked bread from a nearby traditional wood-fired bakery or enjoy a leisurely lunch at any one of numerous world-class wineries and restaurants in the region.
Yallingup is beautiful at all times of the year. You are immersed in nature every moment and it is good for the soul! It revitalises me and makes me feel young again.

What makes this property unique
Cliff Beach House is located in a sheltered but elevated position facing north across a narrow steep-sided valley formed over millenia by the Yallingup Brook. The house has extensive views across the valley to a limestone cliff in the Leeuwin National Park, hence the name, and to the picturesque Caves House gardens to the east and ocean to the west.
The house is surrounded by native gardens and dense heathland vegetation, home to a plentitude of colourful bird varieties including yellow ringneck parrots, pink and grey galahs and black-cockatoos. Visits by the friendly avian locals as they forage for a meal are a daily ritual.
From late winter through spring there are many wild flowers in bloom in the coastal heath. These are best observed by following the local walking trails, of which there are six short to medium length signposted walks beginning in Yallingup including the Quenda, Torpedo, Ghost, Caves and Wardanup Trails.
If you are a speleologist you will also know that there are many limestone caves in the area to explore including the well-known Ngilgi Cave, which is within walking distance of the house.
When we stay at the house, my husband's typical daily routine will start with an early morning walk to the beach and a surf if conditions are good or a jog along the beach if not; a walk back up the Ghost Trail to Andy's General Store for a bacon and egg burger and a coffee. Then back to the house to read the newspaper and attempt the cryptic crossword and sudoko. By then it is time to consider if lunch should be at a local winery or on the balcony followed by an afternoon nap. C'est la vie!
