About this property

Arisaig - slow living in the town time forgot

Carcoar – a beautiful historic village classified by the NSW National Trust as the most intact 19th century village in Australia,
where the Belubula River runs through, the time of day is still tolled by church bell, roosters crow faintly in the distance, and time just tends to go slow.

Situated in the heart of the village is Arisaig – a c1840s-1860s heritage listed characterful cottage.

Originally the town’s Barber shop, stock agents and later the printing office for the Carcoar Chronicle newspaper, it’s been some years since the last beard was trimmed and an advert was placed in the local paper!

Over 170 years later, Arisaig is now a charming and comfortable self-contained cottage.

The house is generously sized and features three bedrooms (2x double bed rooms and 1 2x large single beds), (a fourth bedroom with 1x double bed off the verandah can be provided if required), a large living room, dining room, and a contemporary bathroom and kitchen. Whether you book for one, two or for more, you are guaranteed the whole house to yourself.

Making your self-catering getaway stress-free; the kitchen features a dishwasher, electric oven / gas stovetop, large fridge / freezer and a range of utensils with some basic pantry items. The bathroom features a toilet, shower and bath. A gas BBQ is provided on the verandah.

Arisaig is Gaelic, meaning ‘safe place’, and is perfectly suited for your family holiday, a getaway with good friends or just to retreat either on your own or as a couple.

With complimentary Wi-Fi access to the NBN, A/C, an open fireplace and wood heater, and swimming pool, you are sure to find what you need to be comfortable.

Spend time playing with the kids in the generously sized yard, relax and rejuvenate in the salt mineral pool, share a meal together around the large dining table, get engrossed in a good book sitting in the courtyard garden, play a board game by the fire, take in the fresh country air on an early morning walk or unwind on an evening stroll, marvel at the appeal of the many 19th century buildings, take a daring walk through the old train tunnel – whatever takes your fancy, there is much to make your stay enjoyable and memorable.

When is the perfect time to visit?

Summertime means you can make the most of being outdoors in the garden or enjoying the pool, while the fresh autumn mornings brings a welcome cool change and signals the turning of the leaves with the colours of Carcoar coming alive. Winter does get chilly and you may get some frost or even snow - nothing beats this time of year when you can be rugged up warm inside! By springtime, the flowering bulbs in the garden herald the days warming up and loads of floral fragrances to enjoy.

Seasonally, Carcoar provides one thing in common. It’s beautiful all year round!

For those who want to go further afield, bring your fishing rod and throw a line in at Carcoar Dam, take a drive up Mount Macquarie and enjoy the 360 degree views of the district. With other equally charming towns nearby, you are spoilt for choice.

An easy 2 minute walk to great local dining and boutique shops.

Visit nearby historic Blayney (15 mins), Millthorpe (25 minutes), or venture a little further to Orange, Cowra or Bathurst (all 45 minutes by car).

Carcoar is 3.0 hours from Canberra and 3.5 hours from Sydney.

We hope you enjoy your stay.

Please note:

Details regarding key collection and other information to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable, will be provided by email generally within 7 days of your stay.

We offer a variety of boardgames, a small reading library and complimentary port and NBN internet. There is no TV at Arisaig.

Great stay!

Beautiful house and a wonderful little town. The pub was great for dinner but not much else in the town. Excellent place if you want to get away from the craziness of the city. The house itself was lovely, although only one shower made it tricky. No tv for the teens was interesting, but they made do. I loved the historic feel of the house and the suburb. Would visit again.

3rd stay at Arisaig says it all

Our main reason for choosing Arisaig during the Dec-Jan school holidays is the swimming pool. It entertains the 5 of us for hours, with shade provided by the large pool umbrella and trees on the property. We love the historic village, with a great local pub for lunch/dinner within 5 mins walk. Arisaig has everything we need, even a split system air con in the dining room (which we didn’t have to use due to the breeze brought in from the mature garden/trees). This year we decided to spend Christmas here. The owners put up a gorgeous Xmas tree for us! Looking forward to our 4th stay!

Chilly but cozy Carcoar

An authentic experience in a friendly historic town with fine dining options and a great pub. The house was easy to warm up with open fire, aircon and a slow combustion stove.

Crashpad

I spent a long weekend with friends but was mostly out of the house visiting restaurants and wineries. While we didn't take advantage of them, the cooking and entertaining facilities looked very good with a well equipped kitchen and large dining room with air conditioning. It was cold in Carcour that time of year at night but there were fireplaces, electric blankets and heaters in each room, so we were quite comfortable.

Family Reunion

What a fantastic property. You won't be disappointed if you book this house with all its charm. The beds are really comfortable and the house well appointed. It was a trip down memory lane for us. Carcoar is a great base to have day trips from. Bathurst was only 40 minutes away and we did a few laps of Mount Panorama which is so much harder than it looks on TV. You must also visit the Neville Hotel which has just been renovated. 10/10

Perfect country escape with elegance, charm

We had a wonderful stay. The property is beautiful and well set up. Lots of space and well maintained gardens. The beds are super comfy. We spent our mornings exploring and afternoons in the pool. For a February visit we were able to keep cool in the day and night. While air con was there we never had to turn it on. Our Toddler had a ball and the house was set up well for her to explore safely. There were plenty of toy's there including a wonderful train set that kept her occupied. Plus a bookshelf of kids books. It was wonderful to have plates, cups etc perfect for her. A high chair and cot supplied made transport easier. She loved exploring the gardens and the many paths. The town is small and truly lives up to its name of a town time forgot. Its well looked after and full of friendly people. We stayed a week and had plenty of things to do and felt truly relaxed. Highly recommend as a family escape.

2nd visit and wonderful again

This was our second stay at Arisaig, for a week this time, and it won’t be our last (unless we buy a house and move to Carcoar, as we love this little ‘home away from home’ village). We had ideal swimming weather, so the pool was the perfect temperature every day. The 5 of us lived in the pool and when the sun went down the wifi worked a treat, so the kids were able to get their daily internet fix! This is the place to stay if you want to escape the hassle of day to day life and enjoy quality family time. The local pub’s meals were delicious and we loved that we could get great coffee every day because The Village Grocer cafe was now open 7 days!

Beautiful cottage and perfect location

Beautiful and stylish cottage in a perfect location in Carcoar. Five minutes stroll to the pub and cafe. Set on a pretty street with its own cottage garden. Front verandah for a BBQ. Quiet. The house was spacious and well appointed and extremely comfortable. November was definitely warm enough to use the pool and we spent a whole afternoon lazing around it. The beds were comfortable and made up with generous quilts and good linen. Everything was so clean and comfortable and it was such a lovely house to spend the weekend in. We will definitely stay again.

Worst property I have ever booked

We arrived at a heritage property excited at the prospect of staying, having stayed at many properties in the UK and Europe even older than this one. This property however, and as we subsequently found out the hosts, were unlike any property we have ever booked. The Property was unclean upon our arrival. The pool housed decomposing leaves at the bottom and a resident tadpole, who came up to greet us (per photos we provided to the owner who failed to even as so much address this issue) before the tadpole disappeared once more to the depths of the fetid and discoloured pool. We refrained from reporting the pool to the local council, but it would clearly have caused health issues to anyone silly enough to get into it. The BBQ and patio was covered in grease and fat and was a health hazard. The inside of the property had an initial smell which reminded us of a property which we had stayed at in the past which had bed bugs. Fortunately, we did not stay for more than an hour, so we did not ascertain whether bed bugs were present or whether it was simply the overall unclean state of the property. It may have been the visible mould growing on the walls, which we again provided photos of to the owner and which they have failed to address. There were dead insects strewn throughout the property and ash from the uncleaned fire had blown throughout. The owners assured us subsequently in correspondence this was from the wind nothing to do with them or their failure to clean the property
