Carcoar – a beautiful historic village classified by the NSW National Trust as the most intact 19th century village in Australia, where the Belubula River runs through, the time of day is still tolled by church bell, roosters crow faintly in the distance, and time just tends to go slow.
Situated in the heart of the village is Arisaig – a c1840s-1860s heritage listed characterful cottage.
Originally the town’s Barber shop, stock agents and later the printing office for the Carcoar Chronicle newspaper, it’s been some years since the last beard was trimmed and an advert was placed in the local paper!
Over 170 years later, Arisaig is now a charming and comfortable self-contained cottage.
The house is generously sized and features three bedrooms (2x double bed rooms and 1 2x large single beds), (a fourth bedroom with 1x double bed off the verandah can be provided if required), a large living room, dining room, and a contemporary bathroom and kitchen. Whether you book for one, two or for more, you are guaranteed the whole house to yourself.
Making your self-catering getaway stress-free; the kitchen features a dishwasher, electric oven / gas stovetop, large fridge / freezer and a range of utensils with some basic pantry items. The bathroom features a toilet, shower and bath. A gas BBQ is provided on the verandah.
Arisaig is Gaelic, meaning ‘safe place’, and is perfectly suited for your family holiday, a getaway with good friends or just to retreat either on your own or as a couple.
With complimentary Wi-Fi access to the NBN, A/C, an open fireplace and wood heater, and swimming pool, you are sure to find what you need to be comfortable.
Spend time playing with the kids in the generously sized yard, relax and rejuvenate in the salt mineral pool, share a meal together around the large dining table, get engrossed in a good book sitting in the courtyard garden, play a board game by the fire, take in the fresh country air on an early morning walk or unwind on an evening stroll, marvel at the appeal of the many 19th century buildings, take a daring walk through the old train tunnel – whatever takes your fancy, there is much to make your stay enjoyable and memorable.
When is the perfect time to visit?
Summertime means you can make the most of being outdoors in the garden or enjoying the pool, while the fresh autumn mornings brings a welcome cool change and signals the turning of the leaves with the colours of Carcoar coming alive. Winter does get chilly and you may get some frost or even snow - nothing beats this time of year when you can be rugged up warm inside! By springtime, the flowering bulbs in the garden herald the days warming up and loads of floral fragrances to enjoy.
Seasonally, Carcoar provides one thing in common. It’s beautiful all year round!
For those who want to go further afield, bring your fishing rod and throw a line in at Carcoar Dam, take a drive up Mount Macquarie and enjoy the 360 degree views of the district. With other equally charming towns nearby, you are spoilt for choice.
An easy 2 minute walk to great local dining and boutique shops.
Visit nearby historic Blayney (15 mins), Millthorpe (25 minutes), or venture a little further to Orange, Cowra or Bathurst (all 45 minutes by car).
Carcoar is 3.0 hours from Canberra and 3.5 hours from Sydney.
We hope you enjoy your stay.

The beds were warm and comfortable. Lighting was just okay. The garden was peaceful and the pool would be a great asset in Summer. Possibly not suitable for older people.
We love staying here for our girls weekend. Carcoar is a lovely little town and this house is in a great location to just wander and explore the region. A lovely house.
Gorgeous cottage filled with charm and character. We had a relaxing few days over Easter exploring the area and enjoying all it has to offer. Carcoar is beautiful town and the cottage is historic with all the modern features needed for a great stay. Thank you for sharing your amazing property with us.
Our 2nd time in this heritage home and revisiting a special restaurant - Antica, which is sadly closing for another adventure in their lives. Great stay.

Liked: Check-in, listing accuracy
Disliked: Communication
Not advisable to go in colder weather. Beds comfortable with electric blankets, but rest of house very cold. Reverse cycle air conditioning completely ineffective and wood supply was minimal with extra having to be purchased and kindling had to be foraged . As my friend and I are elderly, we found this difficult .

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad you found the beds comfortable, but we’re very sorry to hear the heating arrangements fell short of expectations during your stay. We’ll review the wood supply and heating options to ensure future guests, especially in colder weather, are more comfortable. Had you let us know during your stay, we could have assisted! Your comments are greatly appreciated and will help us improve.
Again enjoyed our stay here. Good size, nice to have been cool enough for the fire in the evening and lovely location to wander through Carcoar and revisit family history.
The property was just as described, the communication was great. The house has lots of old world charm, a great place to stay and the pool was a great bonus on a warm day. Walking distance to a great Cafe and pub for meals. We will stay again
A wonderful holiday break, with all amenities wanted and needed, set in gorgeous accommodation in the peaceful serene little town of Carcoar.
Thank you for a great break!

Thank you so much for your kind words. We are so glad you had a relaxing break!
Beautiful house and a wonderful little town. The pub was great for dinner but not much else in the town. Excellent place if you want to get away from the craziness of the city. The house itself was lovely, although only one shower made it tricky. No tv for the teens was interesting, but they made do. I loved the historic feel of the house and the suburb. Would visit again.
