About this property
Driftwood Beach Holiday House -Coochiemudlo Island
Driftwood Beach Holiday House fits right in with Coochiemudlo's relaxed and laid back lifestyle. Driftwood is typical of the 70's holiday houses built as weekenders by local families. The layouts do not reflect modern day homes and are part of the experience of a Coochiemudlo Island holiday of yesteryear. Driftwood is a fully self contained home and has been newly renovated and refurbished....modern, light, bright and friendly, it's very comfortable and a great space to relax and unwind.
Feel right at home with all modern amenities with everything needed for a comfortable stay in summer or in winter, with an outside dining area perfect for BBQ's.
Aircon's (large unit cold/warm settings in main living area)(unit in main bedroom- also cold/warm settings)
Ceiling fans living and master bedroom. Pedestal in second bedroom.
TV/DVD
Stereo/CD player
Dishwasher/ Microwave
Large family sized washing machine and dryer.... also a big Hills Hoist
Built in wardrobes and shelving in both bedrooms
Full kitchen and large pantry
Shower over bath and separate toilet
Carport
Driftwood is on one of the best streets on Coochiemudlo. On the highest part of the island it captures the sea breezes. The fenced backyard offers privacy, peace and quiet. Relax and unwind with a glass while you listen to the curlews call to each other at the end of the day.
Guests have access to the whole house. Once you arrive the whole place is yours for the time of your stay.
The property can be accessed with a key that is provided in a key box. Once we have received payment for your booking you will be given the access code 24 hours prior to arrival.
Upon departure you just need to drop the keys back into the box.
The neighbourhood
Coochiemudlo really is one of Brisbane's best secrets. A little hideaway only 35kms south east of Brisbane city and only 10 minutes by passenger ferry or 20 minutes by car barge to this little island paradise.
Relax, unwind and forget about the hustle and bustle of daily life and slip into Coochie's relaxed island time. There is so much to do......or not do.
Water sports, bike riding, bushwalking, artist retreats, family time to remember forever.......and keep coming back..... or time out to read a great book or watch the sunset over a glass and a BBQ.

You will love the atmosphere here, people walking all over the island, BBQ's and picnics at the beach and people chatting on the barges and ferries. Santa arrives on the BBQ cruiser every year with ALL the islanders partying and having beach picnics on main beach at sunset. It's a unique place that will create memories and keep you coming back for more.
Getting around
Coochiemudlo Island is only 35 kms south east of Brisbane city. It's a short 10 minute ride on the passenger ferry and a 5 minute walk to Driftwood Beach Holiday House. Most people get around the island by walking or hiring a bike.
Ferries run from 5am to 11:30pm every half an hour all week. 6:15am -11pm on weekends. Just web search Amity Trader for the latest timetables before your stay. There are multiple trips a day via the car barge (Amity Trader), just be sure to book in advance. Guests can take the car barge over to the island and use their car on the island for their stay, or if you travel light you can leave your car on the mainland and travel over via the passenger ferry (Note: most locals use luggage or trolleys on wheels!).
There are buses to the City, Carindale Shopping Centre and the local Victoria Point Shopping Centre, right from the ferry terminal.
If you want to be spoilt and live like a local you can have a car on both sides:)
Other things to note
Come fully equipped with all your food and drinks. There is no shopping centre on the island or fuel. We have a corner store/kiosk that sells a small amount of emergency supplies and takeaway food or Coochie Beach Bar for eating out. NOTE: Driftwood Beach Holiday House sleeps up to a maximum of 6 guests. A maximum of 4 adults and 2 children.
There are two very comfortable beds in each room, the bed in the master bedroom is quite high. We have had an elderly guest in the past let us know that it was difficult for them to get into the master bed and step up into the bath/shower and the bath is quite deep. If you have mobility issues please consider how this might affect your stay.
Lastly should the need arise, in the case of an medical emergency the island has volunteer, fully trained first responders and an ambulance, just dial 000.

About the host
Hosted by Richard and Lise
My wife Lise and I love to travel. We try to spend as much of our time exploring our amazing country and love nothing better than to hike with our kids into special places and swim. Some of our favourite destinations are Coochiemudlo Island, Karijini National Park, swimming with the whale sharks in Ningaloo, touring Iceland and El Questro Cattle Station in The Kimberley.
Why they chose this property
Coochiemudlo is one of Brisbane's best kept secrets!! We meet so many people who have either never heard of the place....... or the total opposite and have spent many fun times there on holiday when they were growing up.
Most fall in love with the undiscovered and un-touristy vibe.... Driftwood Beach Holiday House is great for young families who want to just get away from it all for a break.
