About this property

Tiny House on Top of a Hill: SPECTACULAR VIEWS!

My place, a custom build from HGTV-featured tiny house builder Randy Jones, is on a ridge with unparalleled, 270-degree views of Grandfather Mountain, all three area ski resorts, and on in to Tennessee and Virginia's Mount Rogers. We're located 20 minutes from Boone and West Jefferson, and closer than that to the Blue Ridge Parkway and New River activities like fishing and tubing. If you've considered downsizing, or you just want to give living tiny a try for a getaway, this is the place!

Please note that the reviews for this tiny house before 2020 are from its old location just down the road in Todd, NC. HomeAway/VRBO required me to start a new listing due to the change in address, though I got to keep the reviews. It's the same great tiny house, now with VIEWS!

The tiny house is in a quiet spot on top of a hill with just four other properties (a second tiny house on wheels and two small, stick-built cabins). Alone, the tiny house is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with a kid or two), and dogs. You can rent the whole mountain top for events. Combined, the four properties can accommodate 16 people.

The tiny house features wifi, a smart TV, a stocked kitchen with a real range and fridge. The spacious bathroom is stocked with toiletries and linens. There is a sleeping loft accessed by steps, no ladder required, and two sofas that convert to beds. The space is cooled and heated efficiently by a mini-split heat pump. There are lots of windows to enjoy your surroundings as well as a deck with a custom bench and table made from reclaimed materials.

In the event of snowfall, four-wheel drive and experience driving in snow is an absolute must to go the last 1/2 mile or so to the house. If snow is forecast for your stay and you do not feel comfortable trying to access the property, you will be offered a full refund. However, if you're feeling adventurous, you could definitely hike the last bit or maybe even catch a ride on a side-by-side ATV.

This place is great! The host isn’t kidding about the views and it’s well-equipped. VRBO required filling out the ski rating, so I gave 5 stars for the location but can’t comment on access or snow since it wasn’t in season when I stayed.

A “little” piece of heaven.

Everything you need, except extra space. Beautiful spacious bathroom. I never did figure out where to adjust a/c, but opening the windows made the temperature just right. Wonderful stay. Can’t wait to visit again.

We will stay here again

The property is beautiful, it overlooks the mountains, and it sits on a tree farm. My 2 grandbabies loved the house and looking out of the top story windows. The neighbor was a delight to talk to and gave us some history of the property. We will stay here again.

Perfect little getaway for two!

We stayed in this tiny home in the mountains for 2 nights. It was the perfect little getaway! It has everything one might need and the best views of the blue ridge mountains! Very quiet and relaxing. Not too far from Boone/Blowing Rock. Definitely good to have a truck but looks doable with a car when there is no snow. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Gorgeous little place, AMAZING view

The tiny house was delightful, and pretty much as shown in the pictures. Small, but very well laid out and functional. But the posting hardly did justice to the amazing scenery. The views were absolutely spectacular, from the rolling hills to the huge backyard area full of fireflies. Highly recommended!

Exactly what I was hoping for

I had been curious about seeing a Tiny House and this didnt disappoint. Everything we needed was included and well organized and the location felt remote yet was only a 20 min drive to Boone which is a lively town. The view was spectacular and the property was shared with only a couple of other rentals. I was also surprised to have decent cellular service as well as wi-fi available. I would definitely recommend.

Great rental for the weekend!

My husband and I stayed here for the weekend to go to an ASU football game. It was an easy drive into Boone (30 minutes). It had more than enough space for my husband and I and our two small dogs. Great little kitchen area that let me cook anything we needed. All the amenities were great as well - good wifi, hot water in the shower, heater to warm the house up when it was cold at night. Compost toilet different at first but totally doable. The owner was super nice and easy to work with as well.

Touch the Sky

What a marvelous place to unplug and reconnect with your soul. I felt like I could touch the sky on this mountaintop that had surround views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Just awesome! Plus, you are minutes away from restaurants, groceries and activities if you want. If it rains or snows, you probably would benefit from a 4 wheel drive or AWD vehicle to arrive. 10/10

WOW this location is stunning!

We might plan a trip to Boone NC just to stay in this space again! It is about a 20 minute drive from downtown Boone, but a very easy one. The instructions for arriving at this location were perfectly handled and very easy to follow. We felt like we were alone on top of a mountain the entire stay and it was magical waking up to. The space was meticulously cleaned and smelled amazing. More than enough was provided for our stay and there is plenty of space inside and outside of the home. There are three other tiny homes on this hill but no one was present the entire stay and I could not find that any of these spaces were listed on VRBO or elsewhere. It would be a fantastic spot for a group of ppl if you were interested in occupying the entire hill, but having it to ourselves seemed so special!

Amazing and unique getaway

Despite my initial skepticism about the whole tiny house fad, renting this one was the perfect alternative to camping in the chilly weather with our 6 month old baby. The location is wonderful and the view from the house is spectacular. There is a beautiful country road that we walked along with our dog and baby where you can feed 3 friendly horses apples from a nearby apple tree. The interior is warm, inviting, and the layout utilizes the small space perfectly. The hosts are top notch. Unlike many other rentals with absentee owners that contract a management company, David and Rachel live in the area, know the area, and are extremely attentive to every need. Before our stay, David responded to all of my questions and provided a lot of good recommendations for things to do in the area. After I asked David if he could recommend a place nearby to get firewood for the campfire, he had firewood, fire starters, and matches ready to go upon our arrival -- he even built an A-frame fire so basically all I had to do when we arrived close to dark was light a match. You will not get that kind of attentiveness from other owners; these hosts are just that -- hosts that want to make your stay perfect. The other benefit is that their cleaning and pet fees are reasonable rather than outrageous like some of the other rentals. I would highly recommend staying here. My only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer this time.

This property was a great choice for a first-time stay in a tiny home. The drive up to the property is worth it for the beautiful view. The property beside it is closer than I thought but the guests staying there were friendly. The house was clean and was stocked with anything we could’ve needed. The host is great and provided all information we needed for our stay. The grass area in front of the property was perfect for a picnic dinner, and the loft area was so cozy and perfect for watching movies. We enjoyed our stay and would book again!

10/10 Experience

To start, the check in/out instructions David sends prior to arriving are extremely helpful and well written to find the location of the cabin! It’s truly the perfect spot for a weekend (or week) to disconnect. The view was breathtaking. The house was extremely clean and smelled like a log cabin. I loved how roomy the loft was as I’m usually not able to sit up in bed without hitting my head (I’m 5’8”). For a tiny house, everything felt roomier. The kitchen sink, the fridge, the shower…it was a super comfortable stay! I can’t wait to vacation here again, I will definitely be back!

Stars were amazing!

We stayed in this tiny home for 2 nights while in town to attend orientation at App State, in Boone. The host was great, very responsive and gave us clear, accurate driving instructions. The view was insane, and the stars seemed like they were close enough to touch. Had a little trouble with the telescoping ladder and smashed my hand trying to lower it. Wished we had chairs to sit out under the stars or on the little porch. We arrived late at night and were a little nervous about how remote it was, and the fact that we had neighboring homes very close to us that we were unaware of. Once daylight came, we learned our neighbors were very friendly, and we had no problems or worries for the duration. Would definitely return!
