Some notice: Calcio Storico In this city ONLY!
In June, Piazza Santa Croce is home to a uniquely Florentine sport experience. Calcio Storico, also called Calcio fiorentino, is a game that started in the 16th century. It’s considered a precursor to soccer as we know it today even if the game is more reminiscent of a rugby/boxing match. It is an astounding experience. Florence is divided into four district. There are four teams in Calcio Storico: Santa Croce (Azzurri), Santo Spirito (Whites), Santa Maria Novella (Rossi) and San Giovanni (Verdi). But do you know what these colors mean? The teams wear these colors because they represent the four historic districts of Florence.
Florence is divided into four district with a team of 27 men for each district. Somewhat like modern day gladiators, the players attack in all forms (martial arts included) to score points by getting the ball through the goals at the ends of the field. The goal name is "CACCIA".
If you want take a look a game of Calcio Storico game for yourself, you visit Florence in June. The final game, will be on June 24th, the festival day of St. John the Baptist, Florence’s patron saint.
In the afternoon of june 24, the Corteo Storico della Città di Firenze (people dressed in colorful and beautiful medieval clothes will be a delight for your eyes as they cross the streets of the city) departs from Piazza Santa Maria Novella and arrives in Piazza Santa Croce where the Bandierai degli Uffizi will present a flag-throwing displa.

8/10 Good

Convenient location in the Santa Croce neighborhood !!!

This apartment was very spacious and set on two levels. It had a true Tuscan feel with very high ceilings, tile and parquet floors and a beautiful bath with marble floors, walls, tub and vanity top. The water was very hot, which made for a relaxing soak. There was a second small bedroom with an adjoining bath with shower. It was nice having the two bathrooms, so we were able to get going faster in the morning The kitchen was of a nice size with adjoining living room, also a good size. There were many large windows throughout the apartment that gave it a bright feel, but it was nice and dark at night when the shutters were closed. Emanuele, who met us at the apartment was very helpful, with guides of the city and recommendations for restaurants. He also arranged a cab to meet us when we left. It was right on time. The only drawback to the place was the street noise which was pretty loud. We had been to Florence many times before this and were accustomed to it. Because of this knowledge, we always travel there with earplugs, which solved the problem. This was a good trip. We revisited many sights that we had not seen in awhile and took a side trip by train to Bologna and then to Ravenna, which was a lovely little town famous for its mosaics. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves and it was just fun to be somewhere so different from where we live on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Expectations not met

The flat was in a nice location and clean , The owner was very accommodating. However it was very noisy and there was a very strong musty smell , the furniture was not what was posted in the pictures The owners should update their photos so you would not be missed lead like we were..
