About this property
Stylish Spacious Converted Bakery★Best Downtown Location★ Walk to Everything
110 year-old adobe market, artfully converted to a comfortable, upscale home. A quiet sanctuary located right in the midst of all the action: Downtown, Community Center, Theaters, Restaurants, and the Streetcar to UA, Banner Hospital. Located in quiet, historic neighborhood with high walk score. 4 blocks from downtown center and streetcar route.
Ideal for couples/friends/families who want large, comfortable gathering areas for shared time, but also desire separate bedrooms & bathrooms. This is a home where you won't be tripping over your luggage, waiting for the bathroom, or hearing the people in the next room. It's a full sized home, that just happens to be in the most desirable location in Tucson.
If you value authenticity, but also enjoy comfort and convenience, look no further.
Thick adobe walls, flagstone and hardwood flooring, Luxury linens, new beds/sofas, full sized washer/dryer. Delightfully furnished with an industrial vibe.
Expansive great room has soaring exposed beam ceilings and partially exposed adobe walls. A repurposed wood and pipe bar-height gathering table seats 8. Adjacent to comfortable sofa/chair seating for 9. The 55" smart TV streams Amazon Prime, via hi speed internet/w WiFi, Bose sound speaker, original art, designer lighting.
Relax in your own private, high-walled courtyard garden, with an Orange tree, fountain, natural gas grill, vintage patio table and chairs.
Completely outfitted kitchen with stainless steel appliances-gas stove, dishwasher, full size refrigerator with ice-maker, drip and French press coffee maker, microwave, blender, toaster, Fitz & Floyd dishes, stainless flatware for 8., condiments, teas, 15 herbs/spices,
The front bedroom has a queen bed, the sunroom bedroom has a king. Both beds with memory foam toppers. There is also a twin air bed available for a 5th person, which you can set up in one of the bedrooms. The "root cellar" downstairs is not counted as a bedroom because it does not have a large enough window to the outside to meet modern code, so should not be used overnight.
Note: Because of the steep, ungated stairway that leads down to the root cellar, this house is not appropriate for young children..

The Bakery is a unique gem that is worth the trip to Tucson. The attention to detail in every room is superlative and Nancy, who really is the owner as well as the property manager, could teach a Master class in how to welcome and support guests! Truly hope we can make it back again to this great property.
The Bakery was so beautiful and cozy. Everything we needed was provided. We enjoyed the downtown location. The back garden patio was just lovely. Nancy is warm and welcoming. We really loved staying here.

Thank you. It was a pleasure having you stay in the Bakery.
Easy access to downtown and a short walk to Bario Brewery let us explore some new to us areas in Tucson. Well kept place and very good instructions about the place and things to do in Tucson. Love the history of the house and area.
Our stay in Tucson was fantastic. Nancy’s attention to detail; her passion about the history and integrity of the property was evident. We loved the ability to walk just about everywhere, with easy street parking when we drove. Our favorite place to unwind after a day of exploring was the courtyard. We’re already planning our next trip!
The bakery was perfect for our needs to have a mini vacation in n Tucson. Super comfortable will everything you need. The unit is in a quiet little neighborhood walking distance to downtown. The little garden was lovely to enjoy morning coffee and the living room spacious and relaxing.

Thank you for your kind words. I must admit I was surprised that you rated the Bakery only “4 stars.” We have over 70 reviews on the various listing sites, and they are ALL “5 stars”... until now! I looked at our texts and emails, and didn’t see any problems mentioned, so I am anxious to find out what we could have done better to earn the excellent rating that we strive for. Please text or email me and let me know if you have any suggestions for improvement. We really value feedback from our guests, and many of the improvements we have made to the property over the years is based their input.
We had a wonderful stay at The Bakery with our son and daughter-in-law. The house was lovely and had everything we needed. It was in a great location, close to downtown and walking distance to fun restaurants. It was also a short drive to beautiful hiking trails. 5 Star Rating goes to Nancy. She was an awesome host. We will definitely be back!

Thank you so much for your kind review! We truly enjoyed hosting your group and hope to welcome you back to the Bakery again soon.
This was one of our best stays in any VRBO. The Bakery is lovely and even better than the photos. The neighborhood is fantastic; so much within walking distance. Communication with the host was seamless. Highly recommended!
This was our second stay at the Bakery. We love it so much my wife said she'd buy it if it was for sale. The property is charming and the owners are great!

Thank you! And I know exactly how Anne feels because that is how I felt when I first saw the Bakery. (My husband took a little longer to get there, because he decided to be the practical one in the relationship.)
Thanks for staying, being such wonderful guests, and we hopefully will see you again next year!
Sincerely,
Nancy & Brad
The Bakery is a delightful property if you are wanting to stay near downtown Tucson, the University of Arizona and the many art galleries and dining options of Tucson. Property is exactly as described and we would definitely consider staying at The Bakery again during our next trip to Tucson.

Thank you for your review and for staying at the Bakery. When we went over later that day after you left, it looked practically like no one had been there! Thanks for taking such good care of it.
The property and house are amazing! Super clean and with everything you need to spend the day/night in or walk to one of the great local restaurants. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone!!

Very Close to Historic Tucson
We enjoyed our stay. The house is quite eclectic and comfortable. We were steps away from the Turquoise Trail which we wanted to walk. The location is very close to the historic Tucson and a quick tram tide to the University.

Thank you for your review. I'm glad you got to do the turquoise trail. And you mentioning it reminded me that I need to put something in the Guidebook about it. It's amazing to see the size of the Presidio Wall nestled up against the huge government buildings and realize that it was the best protection they had only 150 years ago.
Amazing property. So close to downtown and all that Tucson offers. Host was amazing and answered all questions promptly and was very accommodating! Will rebook! Seriously, this place is amazing!

It was a pleasure having you and your party at the Bakery. Such great travelers!
You fit seamlessly into the eclectic Tucson scene. Joining the local "Dia de Los Muertos" festivities, and even bringing chocolate bars to pass out to our neighbourhood trick or treaters.
You are the kind of guests that make hosting fun. I hope you stay in the Bakery again and again.
About the host
Hosted by Nancy Day
I've lived in Tucson most of my life and love it. My husband and I have traveled a lot, and enjoy exploring older, eclectic neighborhoods-the less 'planned,' the better. We love commercial/industrial buildings converted to residential use; steampunk and industrial style decor; modern mixed with antiques, repurposed objects, and old urban neighborhoods that are being revitalized. That is why we bought the Bakery. We want to live here full time when we retire. A few years away, but since this is a one-of-a-kind building, we had to get it when it became available.
Why they chose this property
The Bakery is the 'real thing.' It is featured on the first page of the application for Historical Status for Armory Park. It predates most the city records, first appears on the Sanborn Insurance maps between 1896 and 1904. It was large for an adobe building of that time, and was most probably a barracks. We don't know much before the late 1930's, when it was a grocery store. It was also printing shop, pinball repair shop and lastly a Bakery before being converted. It is light filled, airy, unique and cool. Everyday activities take on an almost spiritual, timeless quality. There is no other home exactly like this; probably because of it's long and changing history.
Think of it! How many times in your life will you get to live in a Bakery?
What makes this property unique
The thick adobe walls provide a quiet sanctuary, while the preserved Bakery storefront allows you to view the activity outside. It offers the rare combination of being in the middle of everything, while being quiet and private.
Armory park is an eclectic, revitalizing urban neighborhood, where there is something interesting, different, and often weird around every corner. It is the best place in Tucson to live if you want to forego driving for a while. It is within walking or streetcar distance to anything you could need.
This area of Tucson is one of the oldest continually occupied places in North America. It has a tolerant, laid back vibe, and thriving art/culture scene, and very little pretentiousness. Wear your comfortable clothing, or dress up if you feel like it.
