Get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy the peaceful setting of Whareroa Village with our classic Kiwi bach. Want a 5-Star hotel? This place is not for you, but if you want to get away from the city and enjoy some time with family and friends in a cosy, comfortable bach then you will be right at home here. The cups don't match, but that cup of tea will still taste just as good, especially enjoyed out on the patio in the morning admiring the stunning lake views.
Situated 33km west of Turangi on the southwestern edge of Lake Taupo. The magic of Whareroa is its relative isolation, great Lake views and Village style atmosphere.
Enjoy long sandy beaches, excellent boat launching, ski lane, and fabulous fishing. For those who prefer fly fishing, there is the famous Whareroa stream mouth, or Lake Kuratau only minutes away.
Taupo is just an hour away via a beautiful scenic lakeside road.
In the winter months, the Whakapapa ski fields are only 50 minutes away. Enjoy a full day on the slopes and then stop in at the Tokaanu hot pools on the way home for a relaxing soak.
Our fully-furnished Kiwi bach offers guests stunning lake views and all the amenities of home with full kitchen, bathroom and laundry.
Parents, there is a porta cot and highchair available for the wee ones, as well as games and movies to keep them entertained during wet weather.
For the outdoors, we invite you to make use of the inflatables, lifejackets and kayak on site.
Take a short stroll the lake, pack a picnic and enjoy a full day in the sun.
Our home is your home - Enjoy.
Please note: Whareroa Village charm comes from its remoteness, but this does mean that the nearest store is 20 minutes away. Turangi is the closest town, a 30-minute drive so it's important to stock up before heading out.
Guests are expected to leave the house clean and tidy.
Linen provided.

The property has lovely lake views and lovely outdoor living and is a short walk to the lake. Overall it is very comfortable, nice and light and with good heating if you need it. It had everything that we needed. Would definitely stay again.

Absolutely loved the location. So quiet with a lovely view. A pleasant walk to the lake. Nice sandy beaches which were not busy, and the lake is so nice to swim in. Also enjoyed the DVD collection.

Customer BEWARE
The VRBO listing photos are of an architecture drawing. It looks new, beautiful, and a true lake escape. Consumer beware. It is the opposite. It is quite worn, dirty, a need of some major TLC and elbow grease.
The place was filthy, curtains stained, blinds dirty and some broke, food stains on wall next to oven, oven burners dirty, windows so dirty the beautiful view was obstructed, refrigerator dented, & mirrors not cleaned. The sheets were extremely worn. Property owners were not interested in fixing the problem because they were not close to property. I will say toilet and shower were clean with hot water.
My husband and I have travelled and stayed in rentals for over 30 years. This is the second worse place I have had to pay for.
I ended up spending the evening cleaning sliding door windows & bedroom windows to glean the sliver of ocean view to the right of patio.
There is a kayak, but only one on a trailer, and the home is on a hill. We did not have a vehicle to hook up the trailer.
Also, if you are not a local or a kiwi familiar with the VRBO, bring food or be prepared for a 30-minute drive into nearest town. The local fish and chips restaurant was outstanding.
I do feel we deserved a discounted price, but I am sure this will not happen, as I never received a text back to the request.
If you ever traveled across the ocean on a 16 -hour flight to our home, I would be appalled if I left our place in that condition to first timers to our country.

Unjust review, we spent over 30 minutes on the phone late at night, listening to the rantings of an unreasonable person who wanted a discount in exchange for a good review. This is by far the nastiest review we have ever received and we are deeply saddened by the comments made about our much-loved family bach.
Great location, warm and friendly atmosphere in this batch
Good communication from owners, lovely view of the lake we have had a great family experience

Family Holiday
We are a family of 5 and spent 10 nights at this property in January.
Whareroa is a sleepy backwater, 15 mins from Omori/Kuratau. It was extremely quiet even in peak holiday season.
Bach has lake views and comfortable beds.
Kitchen is very basic - suggest bring a good knife and frying pan.
Great shower (though you have to bail it out a little after use bc of position of plughole)
Broadband limited bc on rural broadband service. Owners were responsive to problems w TV access by lifting requirement to limit internet use, which was appreciated.
Heatpump/air conditioning not functioning, but we didn’t need to use either during our stay.
All in all, good value for money in a pretty special part of NZ.

The property was a great place to 'get away from it all'. It was well provided with dvd's and games etc, thank you :-). There were food staples in the cupboard and plenty of bedding. Very, very good.
The only issue we had was actually finding the place - the numbering is not very visible from the road and particularly with the dimming light of day!
My friend and I had a lovely time at your cosy little house. We chatted while knitting, stitching and sewing. Had beautiful morning walks exploring the village and marvelled at the views
Many thanks Lainey and Dee

Great location
The property is in a great location with lake views. The house is well equipped.
The ptoperty was very clean and tidy with a well stocked dvd library and plenty of equipment to be enjoyed. A beautiful location which we never wanted to leave. It was a truly comfortable home away from home experience.
