We enjoyed our stay at Owl Cottage. Property is beautiful and very peaceful. We enjoyed the short walk to the waterfall. We will definitely consider renting again when we travel to the area.

Thank you for your review. We love reading that you enjoyed our oasis of peace and serenity. We look forward to your return.
A beautiful place to get deliberately “snowed in”. Loved walking the property; don’t miss the waterfall!
Power company was quick to get power back on; cabin stayed warm. I would have liked a mattress pad under the sheets, more cups, glasses, etc., in the kitchenette, a sofa that didn’t “spring” when you sit down, and cuter decor (lose the cactus), but those are just my personal preferences. Overall, it was a delightful, well-kept place!
Clean the porch so we could have spent time outside. Stain on sheet. Window in the kitchen does not lock at all. Dust on blinds and valance. We understand that it is a cabin but the porch should be cleaned after each rental .

We appreciate your input. We always clean the porch along with the cabin clean. It is a cabin and dust can accumulate between bookings. This cabin had not been rented for a couple of weeks. A new dish receiver was installed two days before your arrival and the porch was blown off again. These cabins are surrounded by trees and we are still in pollen season. We hope you enjoyed the beauty of the property.

Smell
The property was beautiful, but the smell in the cabin was terrible. It smelled like it hadn't been opened and aired out in years. They had left us with only 3/4 of a toilet paper roll, no shampoo, no conditioner, no dish soap and the powered coffee creamer was as hard as a brick. We were planning on staying for 3 days but left after one day because couldn't stand the smell. They also don't provide any kind on maid service during your stay, so had to buy toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner and coffee creamer.

We respect your comments. We provide a Welcome manual in each cabin that is full of general information for our guests. Page 1 clearly states "We want you to enjoy your stay. We ask all guests to go through the home and report any dissatisfaction within the first 24 hours". Management and Housekeeping are very close by. We have inspected the cabin. Perhaps the odor you refer to was the propane gas heat. The extra roll of tissue paper was in the bathroom drawer. If you read the amenities, we do not provide shampoo and conditioner. We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay.

Honest review: We enjoyed our stay & may return, now that we know what to expect. There are things that need to be addressed, both physically & in the description of this property.- The cabin seemed to be unused for quite some time. You're supposed to turn the air off when you check out (window AC unit), so there is no air flow between bookings & the cabin is stagnant. We were immediately hit with the smell of mold when we got there, so we turned the AC & fans on, opened the door, & aired it out. The fans had cobwebs between the pulls & the AC was covered in them as well. I later found the mold- It was growing on the couch. Otherwise, the cabin was clean & stocked as described. - The outside area is beautiful, but the online photos are old & don't reflect the current state of the property. The 'lake' is a more of an overgrown pond & is hard to fish due to major overgrowth. The other 2 ponds on the property have mostly filled in, but you can see how big they used to be. Also, much less wildlife than I expected. - The view of the night sky would have been great, but one of the cabin's porch lights kept going on/off every few minutes lighting everything up. Some big local dogs roamed free & barked while making their way up the hill to us so we cut our stargazing short & called it a night.- The location is great & is close to everything. I can only imagine what this place was like in its prime! It has so much potential, just needs attention/restoration. Still a B :)

Thank you for your comments. In your case, the fans must have been turned off. The AC is to be left on low. Unfortunately you stayed when we had to light the pilot light because we had unusually cooler temperatures in end of August.

Stayed in The Owl Cabin
Our stay was okay.. road was a little scary getting up to cabin.. the cabin was nice enough but needs way more lighting at and around the cabins and around the lake to view it while sitting on the deck after dark. Extremely remote and far from ANY civilization except for when our neighbors arrived in the cabin next to us. Was our first time here . Was nice enough , just needs updating and cleaning up around the grounds area.. decent weekend mountain getaway, just not sure will stay again here
Extremely enjoyable location, small but cozy cabin in a beautiful area. Loved watching the ducks on the water, walking to the waterfall, enjoying the all the creeks nearby, sitting by the fire pit and sipping coffee on the porch sitting in the rocking chairs.
My only suggestion would be to replace the couch. The springs on the back have no support and actually bounce back and are very uncomfortable. Other than that it was a wonderful weekend getaway!
The view was beautiful. The cabin however had a musky odor, sofa is worn out and sheets on the bed were a little rough. With a few updates this cabin would be perfect!

Thank you for your review. We have had a tremendous amount of rain in the last several weeks. We had 6" of rain in just a few hours about when you were at Valley Springs. Valley Springs is surrounded by water and has a very high water table. We leave the overhead fans on to keep air circulating in the cabins. The sofa was just replaced a few months ago. The Owl is one of our most popular rentals. Unfortunately constant use will wear furniture out sooner.
This was the perfect setting for our 35th wedding anniversary. The cabin was clean, quiet and peaceful. Also, it is close to many hiking trails and lakes.

The location is secluded , beautiful, well cared for and perfect for relaxing get away. But if you want to get out and do things thay are multiple places and things to do less than 20 minutes away.
The cabin was clean and just the eight size for the two of us. Wifi was great .
We love the Clayton area and have stayed in different places. But this is where
we will be on the future visits.

Really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. We loved the front porch with the view overlooking the lake. It was very clean upon arrival. The bed was comfortable but a little squeaky. The sofa was okay but had a spring popping in the back rest. And it could use a little more silverware and dishes. The location is beautiful but you are a little closer to other cabins than it shows in the pictures. Overall a very nice place. Would definitely like to visit again. Thank you for the stay.

Thank you for your review. We will be sure to check on the dishes and silverware. The cabin was stocked with four place servings for 2 occupants. It's possible some were broken or misplaced. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your visit.
