15 Acres of Ocean Front Privacy in the Middle of Everything Acadia

Small Cove Point is a five bedroom waterfront home on 15 acres with 1/4 mile of private Somes Sound shoreline. The Main House accommodates up to 10 guests in 5 bedrooms. For an additional fee the three bedroom Guest Cottage can be added to accomodate 6 more guests, for a total of 16. The grounds include extensive shoreline, small coves, meadows, woods and two fresh water streams. Providing privacy and spectacular north, south, and western views of the Sound, Acadia’s Giant Slide Trail begins directly across the street. Northeast Harbor is 6 minutes away, Cadillac Mountain Entrance is 9 minutes, Bar Harbor is 12 minutes, and Southwest Harbor is 13 minutes.

Use our kayaks and paddle boards to explore Sargent Cove. Moor your boat at Abels full service yacht yard just up the sound. Abels offers deep water dockage and guest moorings, as well as dining at Abels Lobster Pound.

This well-maintained home has newer mattresses, pillows, towels and monogrammed linens. All the rooms offer water views. There is a large living room (the "Great Room") as well as a sunny separate study if you need some quiet time, both with large fire places. The living room and well stocked kitchen have direct access to the expansive Western facing deck providing spectacular views of Somes Sound, where seals, porpoise, loons, mergansers, herons, osprey and a bald eagle are common sights, followed by one of the best sunsets on Mt. Desert.

There is high speed wifi, cable tv, ample parking, an automatic generator, bbq grill, fire wood, a full laundry with washer and 2 dryers, and an outdoor shower. A new HVAC system provides a/c and heat with individual remotes for every room. Paddle boards, Kayaks, and life vests are provided. There is an on site caretaker. The owner is available via text or phone 24/7/365.

Incredible Maine
We could not have loved this home more — with 7 adults and 3 toddlers, we all had our own space inside while nestled in an idyllic park-like environment. Kitchen had everything we needed for many family-style meals around the huge eat-in kitchen table. Communication with the owner and on-site caretaker was a breeze both before and during the trip, and they made sure travel cribs were available for the kids so we could travel without. Can’t recommend this home enough!

Great Gathering Spot
The house is just as it looks in the pics. You can tell from the minute you walk in that there have been a lot of fun times had here. The location is amazing and the view from almost every room is spectacular. We had several fires out on the point as the sun set over Somes Sound, which I will never forget. The owners were easy to work with and the property manager was great. We did use Chef Greg one night, which I'd highly recommend. Having said all this, there are some rustic elements. This house is a grand old dame, but she's probably due for a facelift, particularly when it comes to the bathrooms. Don't hesitate to book this place. We are a family of 8 that created some priceless memories here that we will never forget. Thanks to the Hargraves family for sharing this treasure with us.

Large home, Excellent location, and beautiful view for friends and family
Quiet, conveniently located for visiting Acadia Natl Park and Bar Harbor. Plenty of room to spread-out for family and friends. Cabin is very well stocked with kitchen utensils for preparing meals. A variety of birds visited the area while we relaxed on the spacious deck. Management was very responsive when we had questions. We have stayed in many VRBOs and would stay here again.

Welcome Fall
Another fantastic week at Small Cove Point in the books. This is an iconic MDE property that is the perfect home base for hiking, biking, and generally touring Acadia NP. We also enjoyed using the available kayaks and SUPs to explore Somes Sound. Though close to everything, the size of the property creates a wonderfully isolated feel. Our group loved preparing meals in the very well equipped family kitchen and of course having a cocktail watching the sunset on the spacious deck. of note: guests at SCP are treated to "lots" of everything, towels, pillows, cozy comforters, puzzles, deck chairs, wood for the fire to name a few Thank you, again for sharing your beautiful property.

Perfect Retreat!
Wonderful vacation spot for a large family reunion. Everyone had enough space in this beautiful home on the Somes Sound. Gorgeous sunsets every night, plenty to do at our fingertips and perfect if we didn't want to anything. Did not disappoint! Looking forward to going back soon.

Come see for yourself what makes Small Cove Point so special! Commissioned by our grandfather in 1961 and built of native pine, Small Cove Point is where our entire family gathers during the month of August to reconnect, unwind, and just have fun amidst the spectacular beauty of Acadia National Park and its environs. This is a property used by all 14 of us in August: 6 kids, 7 adults, and 1 grammy split between the Main House and the Cottage. We bring our dogs, one of which sheds fur mercilessly. (No, we do not allow pets, no matter how sweet, well trained, or well behaved. This is non-negotiable and based upon past experience). It is clean, well-cared for, and well equipped. The furniture and upholstery are updated regularly, including recent mattresses, sheets, blankets, pillows, and towels. We also installed a modern HVAC system in 2021: each room has individual heat and A/C controls. It is a wonderful house, a wonderful property, and a wonderful place to be. While you may find clues that others have been there before - a finger smudge on a window for example - please know that everything is clean, tidy and squared away. The cleaners are thorough and use antibacterial products. Yet you may come across a dog hair in the living room, mismatched silverware, Tupperware without a lid or a chipped china plate. You may also find canned goods, an unopened box of quinoa or gluten-free spaghetti, a bottle of hot sauce, maybe a half bag of perfectly good coffee. Help yourself. We work hard to ensure that this well-loved and well-used home is well-maintained. You are a guest in our home. Yes, you are a paying guest but a guest nonetheless and I will work hard to correct any deficiencies.

Why they chose this property

Simple, comfortable, and ready for you. This is a wonderful gathering place for friends and family, with a large living room/dining room, fully stocked eat in kitchen, and expansive deck. Where else can you be on the water and surrounded by granite mountains? There is plenty of room to spread out: in the house, on the property, and throughout Acadia. Take a swim in front of the house, watch the wildlife and boats from the deck, take a hike in the Park, a stroll through Northeast Harbor, a water taxi to Isleford (Little Cranberry), Great Cranberry, Swans Island or Frenchboro (Long Island).

What makes this property unique

Acclaimed by many to have the best sunset on Mt Desert! 1/4 mile of private shorefront on Somes Sound. New HVAC system 2021 with individual controllers for each room. 4 Paddles Boards, 3 sit on top Kayaks, 1 sit in Kayaks, 4 children's sit on top kayaks, life vests.
