About this property

Bushland Retreat in Smiths Lake

Our guests published reviews can say it better than we ever could!
“This is a magical spot! Beautiful house located one quiet street back from Smiths Lake. The space is stylish, light and airy, with lovely new bathrooms & a large, well-appointed kitchen. Close to exceptional beaches including Cellito & Seal Rocks.

The garden is totally secure, even for our small houdini dog. The kayak/dinghy was well used by the whole family, including the dogs. Toby is an incredibly responsive and gracious host.”

The Space...
There are 2 Pavilions joined by a bridge, the perfect layout for a large group. The main Pavilion is open plan with living/dining/kitchen, plus 2 en-suite bedrooms. The whole Pavilion has giant wooden Bifold doors that completely open onto the north facing veranda with great outdoor seating and the BBQ.

The 2nd Pavilion has 2 large bedrooms and a bathroom - each bedroom has its own entrance from the walkway, and the bathroom is shared from an internal corridor to ensure privacy.

All 4 super sized bedrooms have comfortable chairs, coffee tables and many books for you to borrow - the house has over 500 books. Feel free to take a paperback home if you don’t have time to finish it.

All 6 rooms have ceiling fans and all windows are louvres, so the house is cool as it catches all the breezes off the lake. In winter we have an amazingly efficient double ended combustion stove - the giant living areas are warmed in 20 minutes. There is plenty of firewood for you to use.

About the host

Sarah and I live in Sydney and we are not too many years from retirement! We have 2 small dogs and 2 adult children who are both about to marry and both love Smiths Lake.

Why they chose this property

We built this tranquil Eco House in 2017/2018 on a block chosen because it was surrounded by giant and beautiful trees and is opposite Smiths Lake. It is one of the few lakeside properties in Smiths that doesn’t face South or West, plus it’s protected from violent southerly winds by a hill. Also, unlike many houses on the coast, we can sit on the deck when the prevailing NorEasters are howling - the trees soften it while still cooling us.

We planted over 600 native plants with all seeds sourced locally to create an authentic bush retreat. We love creating landscapes that are harmonious and private - previous gardens we created have been featured on Gardening Australia and Burke’s Backyard.

The house is one of the safest in Smiths Lake regarding bushfires - being at the bottom of the hill and adjacent to the lake. Also the house was constructed to be as bushfire safe as possible with non-flammable decks, metal fly screens, metal walls, metal gutter guards, etc.

What makes this property unique

There is a table tennis table in the garage - park your car on the driveway and set it up in the garage. Also a 2 person/2 dog kayak plus an aluminium dinghy that holds up to 5 people, both stored next to the lake and easy to launch over the beach. Life jackets are available plus a couple of fishing rods. Enjoy!
