Nice Place needs TLC
Great location, views, deer, AIR CONDITIONING!! We have come to Ouray for the last 20 years. It was our first time renting a place with an A/C, totally worth it! We had deer in the backyard daily. The home needs some TLC. The 2nd bedroom is a QUEEN, not a king as it says in listing. Overall we will definitely be back!

Mouse feces, non functional toilet and fireplaces, and unusable pots and pans
The location, view, and space was wonderful. However, there was mouse poop all over the place. Under the sink, all over the sponges, in the dish washer pod bag, on the counter, and in one of the bathrooms. On our last day, we found that a mouse went into one of our backpacks and ate through a chocolate bar. One of the toilets was non functional with a sign, which we weren't aware of prior to booking. The provided cooking pans were all scratched up. The fire places were all turned off so we couldn't use them. In general, we were left with a very negative feeling due to the mouse problem.

Response from VrboOwner on 20 October 2025
We want every guest to arrive to a home that’s clean, comfortable, and ready for their stay, and we’re sorry to hear that wasn’t your experience. After following up with the homeowner, they shared the following:
- The property is in a rural area where wildlife can occasionally enter if doors are left open. It’s possible the door was left ajar during turnover, and housekeeping protocols have been reinforced to help prevent this.
- A sign was placed on the non-functional toilet, but we regret this wasn’t communicated prior to arrival.
We appreciate your feedback and are taking steps to improve the experience for all future guests.
The only reason we chose this location was based on the online listing stating that it had 3 bedrooms, all with King Size beds. When we got there, the 3rd bedroom had a queen size bed. Both the property owner and VRBO refused to give a partial refund based on inaccurate online listing.
This house is great tons of space and plenty of space for families and friends. The covered patio is a life saver to be able to spend time outside while it is raining.

Live Mice Inside Home
The place on arrival was actually very clean. The issue was when we opened the trash in the kitchen and a live mouse came out. We weren't able to react fast enough and it went somewhere. That night my kids came in screaming when a different colored mouse was in their bedroom. When I went back into the living room, I saw it scurry under the fridge in the kitchen. The next morning we called the management company and he said he would call Orkin out. The Orkin man told us he had never caught a mouse in the house and the people before us must have taken out the traps because nothing was there. This seemed odd considering on the reviews someone one month before had commented that they had to throw out dead mice in traps. I would assume if this got reported, you would have had Orkin come back out and set more traps and continued to do so on a regular basis. I have never dealt with mice before, but knew I didn't want them in our bedrooms at night. To be more aggressive with the situation, so we could try to sleep, I went to the store and bought 8 snap traps and peanut butter. The next morning, we had caught 2 mice with the traps I purchased. I understand animal situations happen when you are in the mountains. However, I would think with the price we paid, the management company and owners would ensure active mouse traps were set and checked between each visitor. I have stayed in many rural places around Colorado, paid less, and the attention to rodents was not an issue. Needless to say, we will not be back considering this greatly impacted the sleep we were able to get.

Not worth the stay
The property had wonderful views, lots of space and quiet. A short drive from the towns main area which had great hiking.. The main negative issue was the smell of dead rodents. We found two dead mice in traps upon check in. There were traps in every room. We notified management thru the VBRO site, but did not get a response until the day before check out. I would not recommend staying here if you have an aversion to rodents.
This was our first retirement trip after the COVID pandemic. I have been in this area many times over the years. Love Ouray area and this rental was excellent base to explore.

Great and relaxing time!!!
We love to travel and this was our first trip out since COVID put everything on hold. I have spent lots of vacations in the Ouray area and absolutely love the place. This trip was even more enjoyable due to this wonderfully well done place. Very well stocked and clean. But the best about it was the amazing view of the mountains and surrounding. On our last day and night we had a beautiful snow and that was the cherry on top of a great time.
We had a great stay. We suggested that more screens be put on the windows, more blankets be put in the home and that they get a crock pot 🙂 Everything was great, the view was amazing. I would recommend staying here
