Lovely house and location - unfortunate neighbours

The house is lovely, exactly as listed. Unfortunately, once you arrive there are some additional rules and challenges that are not disclosed on the booking site. The home has signs posted throughout about keeping noise to a minimum, which we noted but didnt think much about. As a group of four adults in our fifties and a 12 year old, we assumed normal conversation and use would be fine.... We had a relaxing swim in the pool, took in the view and a BBQ. Unfortunately at 9:35pm, the next door neighbour shouted over the fence about a "curfew on the back verandah" after 9:30pm. This is nowhere in the listing, nor is it in the rather extensive "manual" left by the home owner. When I queried with the home owner, he told us just to comply so everyone was happy - except we, as the people who had rented the property - were not happy. We were not making excessive noise, merely after dinner chat on the balcony looking at the view, and the ongoing "observation" by the neighbour was oppressive and really ruined our stay. Combined with the same neighbour starting his lawn mower at 7:30am (which is apparently fine), strange instructions about not parking on the public street and various other things, we found the intrusion very unwelcome.As per the caption - great house and location, but we will not be staying again, and if you are a family or even just a couple of adults wanting to have a relaxing weekend with friends (not partying), I would not recommend this property.

My partner Mimi and I live in Melbourne and moved to retirement phase of our life.
We wanted to partially move to a beautiful setting in the country but did not know where to.
Due to COVID we skipped our annual overseas trip and travelled along the beautiful NSW coast. When we arrived to Bellingen we immediately knew that this is the place we were looking for. fantastic vibe, historic buildings with modern shops and cafes, lush rainforest and fantastic nature walks but only thirty minutes from great beaches.

Why they chose this property

When we entered the house and saw the fantastic view of Dorrigo mountains, the large living area and kitchen, the beautiful deck and the pool, we knew that we found our place in paradise.

What makes this property unique

All we wanted for a holiday house. Large bedrooms, a garage, beautiful street, fantastic town, large living area, amazing deck with view and a pool.
