Fantastic Family Vacation
My kids grew up coming to Shingle Shack with my family. This was our first year booking alone for a family vacation with my now adult children. Grateful for the gorgeous setting to be together and make memories.

The cottage was unique and full of family history, perfect location and fabulous autumn weather! The place can use a good cleaning, lots of cob webs, spiders, mice traps And dust, dust, dust!

Hi Bernadett, we're so glad to hear you enjoyed the unique charm and family history of the cottage, as well as the beautiful autumn weather! We also appreciate you bringing the cleanliness issues to our attention. After sharing your feedback with the homeowner, they wanted to respond with the following:The cottage was professionally cleaned before your stay, but with some time between guest visits, a refresher would have helped address dust and cobwebs that can accumulate in a rural setting. We’re committed to improving our process during slower seasons to ensure the property feels fresh and inviting for each guest, no matter the timing.Thank you again for your valuable feedback. We’ll use it to provide a more seamless experience for future guests, and we hope you’ll keep us in mind for your next getaway!
One of the most relaxing vacations. Welcome gift bag was very nice. Ive stayed in a few upscale places & never recd anything. Cottage was well stocked, kitchen, etc. Ty
Main property was really nice and owner was helpful with all communications. The secondary house/bedrooms had more of a musty smell and since it was too cold to keep windows opened decided to have everyone stay in the main house, which has plenty of space with futon and couch. Great central location for all the activities we had planned and right on the water!
Checked all of the Michigan Lakehouse Vacation Boxes!
We had the best time at the Shingle Shack! The house was spacious and comfortable. It is has a very homey feel to it. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. There is a great little
market within a few minutes drive that we v bought all of our groceries at. The kayaks were fun to take out into the lake. The beach fire pit is going to be hard to top for all future vacation rentals. We did not use the bunkhouse during our stay. The lake is absolutely beautiful.Perfect for swimming, boating, etc. Highly recommend!

FLEA bites, but still a great vacation
There are two separate living quarters. A "shed" that has two bunks beds and a queen bad and a main house. The main house was immaculate- very nice. BUT if you're going to use the shed, everyone that slept in there was covered in flea bites by the time we left. AND unfortunately, they brought them home in their suitcase, so we're dealing with them in our house as well now.
Torch Lake is absolutely amazing and the beach access and the fire pit were great! We made a lot of great memories.

Owner's response: "Amy, The homeowners were surprised to read your review, as they are accustomed to providing 5-star experiences, and would like to clarify the following:Amy, we are truly sorry to hear that you did not have a good stay at our property. We're not sure what you picked up, but they were not fleas and they did not come from our house. We were at the home just after your visit and we inspected the home from top to bottom and found no evidence of any fleas. We are a pet-free home and although someone could sneak a pet in we have verified with the neighbors that none have been seen around our property. My daughter and family including a 20-month-old child stayed in that unit and they did not have any bites to speak of. They did however get a case of swimmer's itch which can resemble flea bites from what I have researched. But they have had swimmers itch before and that is certainly what it was. We do all we can to make the best possible stay, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests. We will continue to deliver the 5-star experiences we are known for."
This is a great lakehouse in a great location. We stayed just after the "off-season" began, the second week of September, so there were more locals than tourists and less activity in the establishments and at the sand bar, which was just fine by us. We cooked in the cabin, grilled on the deck, used the fire pit and went to the sand bar each day with the small boat we took there. One note, if you bring your boat, they provide and mooring buoy in knee deep water just off the dock, instead of allowing you to tie directly to the dock. The water is crystal clear and very shallow for hundreds of yards directly off the dock here and directly connected to the sandbar. We did not need it, but this cabin does not have a/c. We did not use the bunk house, but I did peak inside. Just as described, a set of bunk beds and a full size bed in one room, and a separate sitting room area. Overall, great experience!

Did not meet expectations, Still Enjoyed Outdoors
Torch lake is beautiful, the deck, bonfire area, and lake front were perfect- loved the two kayaks. The house under delivered. There was still trash in some cans, light switches that didn’t work, spider webs in the shower, and a general musty scent. This house also requires you to bring your own sheets, bedding, and towels- comforters and pillows were provided, but it didn’t seem that they were washed between renters. Coming from out of state this was not really acceptable- we needed to spend an extra $200 at a nearby Walmart on dish towels, hand towels, sheets, pillow covers, bath towels, etc. The kitchen was also severely under stocked compared to other VRBOs that we have stayed in - no salt, pepper, etc. there also was not extra trash bags, paper towel, or toilet paper that we could find- we needed to purchase additional.
The house felt very tired and worn in- you could spin it as charm, definitely an authentic “cabin” experience. We only stayed in the main house (2bedrooms and a futon off the living room) but the bunkhouse wasn’t somewhere I would have had my family or kids stay (a bunk bed and queen bed).
The total cost with cleaning fees just seemed too high for the condition of the house- however we did spend most of our time outside, on the lake, or in nearby cities.
Coming from out of state I would rule this house out based on availability of linens and general supplies.
Awesome experience at torch lake. This is the end of the lake to be on and the house and dock are right in the middle of the action.
We would definitely stay here again.
The bunk house smelled musty ,isolating from group . We all slept in the house, one on futon and a blow up bed. Could have used blankets. The view was amazing. Location wonderful. The house was very nice comfortable. Thank you ,it was lovely.

Great Views
The cabin provided great views of the lake with a very nice large deck. Driveway states it fits five cars but we barely got our two cars to fit. Great location to many dining options.
Can't beat a summer weekend on torch lake! The shingle shack had everything you need and was exactly as described in the listing. Erik made it a smooth process and I would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway
We absolutely loved staying at the Shingle Shack! Erik made it a seamless process to check in and check out. Deck with grill area was the perfect spot to relax and eat. Loved using the two kayaks that were provided as well!
The property worked great for anyone looking for an accessible stay as well! One small step to access the front entrance and two bathrooms both with grab bars.
No problems with this home even was surprised with two kayaks available for use! Kitchen is equipped with everything, very cute and clean. Parking does state 5 vehicles but I don’t see how three could even fit. Highly recommend.
