The house was beautiful and just like the photos. It was well maintained and we had everything we needed. Wonderful mountain view from the deck and large windows. Host was helpful and responsive. The 3/4 of a mile drive up the steep and winding one-way gravel road was an experience! If you came face-to-face with a car coming the opposite direction someone had to back up to the nearest driveway. I would agree with the description that an AWD/4WD is highly recommended!

Beautiful Views and Serene Setting
Our family of eight had a wonderful time at Mountainside Retreat. The location was perfect for us - close to Boone and a short drive to Valle Crucis and Banner Elk. Our host was welcoming (with a nice gift basket of treats). The views were beautiful and we even had a full moon on our last night. The kitchen was lovely and the seating area was perfect for relaxing in front of the fireplace, watching movies and game night. The older grandkids (6 and 8) loved the bunk room. We made sure to keep our eye on the kids on the deck, as the home is built into the mountain and the main level deck is very high.Having a car with AWD definitely made a difference since the gravel road is steep in some places. That said, we made the drive up and down the mountain each day, and we felt it was worth it for the view and seclusion! All in all, we had a wonderful time and made some great family memories!
