About this property

Elsewhere Red Hill - on 10 acres - 6 mins to beach

What makes staying at Elsewhere unique is that we are a family with good food in our hearts, & good food can be at the heart of your adventure with us too! Owner, Frenchman & chef Patrice @maisonbypatrice could provide you with, perhaps, a cooked breakfast, a fully catered stay or even a hosted dinner party for up to twelve if you so wish. Having owned a hatted French restaurant in Melbourne for 15 years, we made the sea/tree change to find our green place we are so excited to now share.

The space
Outdoors, you'll love the open air dining area with a green view over paddocks. Our pool and pool deck are visible from Else where's deck area, but are a bit off to the side. Guests can enjoy the beautiful pool between the hours or 3 pm and 5 pm Dec-Mar, while at other times it remains for private owners' use. The spa is not available for guest use.

Elsewhere is a separate cottage with its own parking and entrance, situated adjacent to the main house, which is separated from the cottage by just a few metres of garden & deck. Although your privacy and ours is important to us, there is a certain “togetherness” in the way our property is laid out in the outdoor areas. You can see a corner of the main house in one of the external photos. For privacy & safety reasons Elsewhere is NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 12.

*Council restrictions mean we can only provide cooking basics: There is a full family-sized fridge & pantry however. Other than that, there's a microwave/grill, portable induction hotplate, dishwasher, washing machine, Weber Q barbecue, and plenty of pots and utensils.

You'll find breakfast for the first day of your stay in the fridge: granola, yoghurt, home made compote, preserves, butter and local bread or home made brioche, milk and orange juice.

Guest access
Elsewhere is located down a quiet country lane with parking right out front.

The neighbourhood:
Perfectly central for accessing wineries & for wandering the whole Peninsula.

Located in the hinterland heart of the Mornington Peninsula in Red Hill South but just 6 mins' drive to Merricks Beach, you can easily get to all the favourite local spots.

5 minutes’ drive from our local darling, Merricks General Wine Store. Home to a fabulous cellar door showcasing a range of local wineries, plus some of the region’s best breakfasts & lunches, you'll also love their art exhibitions & popup retail events. A 45-minute walk from Elsewhere via the Merricks-Red Hill Trail will also get you there.

Wineries such as Polperro, Avani, & Port Phillip Estate are also walking distance away, while Stonier, Paringa Estate, Montalto, Point Leo Estate, Ten Minutes by Tractor & Quealy are just a few minutes’ drive for wine tasting & touring.

We are lucky enough to live surrounded by natural bushland & forest. Home to wallabies, echidna, koalas & a rich variety of bird life, our neck of the woods offers a much-needed disconnection from city life, a bit over an hour’s drive from Melbourne.

Easy walking access to the Red Hill - Merricks trail, a favourite hiking, equestrian & mountain bike track, at the end of our lane (5 mins walk).

A range of farm gates & sustainable food producers & fabulous restaurants at our doorstep. Join a mushroom foraging walk, taste cheese at the farm gate, drop in on boutique breweries & distilleries, or do one of the many fabulous bushwalks in the area.

Getting around:
Red Hill & the surrounds are best explored by car. Ubers are around, but fairly scarce.

The Red Hill - Merricks trail is just at the end of our lane, making Stoniers, Paradigm Hill, Merricks Estate, Yal Yal, Merricks Creek all within walking distance. Also Port Phillip estate, Avani & Polperro are within 2 kms.

Relaxing
The cottage is located in beautiful natural surroundings. The abundant BirdLife was an unexpected delight, which we enjoyed morning and afternoon from the cottage’s terrace. The cottage was very tastefully decorated, it felt more like staying in someone’s home than a holiday rental. The hosts were both helpful and respectful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return.
