About this property

The Lazy Lock-Up

Take a journey back in time and stay in one of Chiltern's most historic buildings, the Old Police Residence. Built in 1875 to oversee prisoners held at the 'Old Lock-Up' which sits adjacent to our home. The Old Police Residence tells many stories including tales about the Kelly Gang, some of which signed warrants within these walls. A new story was written in 2019 when every inch of this house was lovingly restored to its present elegance. We proudly bring you, "The Lazy Lock-Up".

THE SPACE
Our home offers three queen bedrooms, each featuring an ornamental fireplace. This home will comfortably accommodate six people, so it is perfect for couples or groups, and boasts a fully equipped kitchen, laundry, and an exquisite bathroom with original pressed tin and claw foot bath. Several split systems keep the home at a comfortable temperature all year round.
You will be able to quickly unwind as you enjoy the many private outdoor spaces including a BBQ, comfy lounge, and a grapevine-covered gazebo. Enjoy our chickens who will provide you with fresh eggs and marvel at the original stables which are one of the few remaining examples of timber police stables remaining in Victoria.

Enjoy a stunning sunset from the swing seat on our front verandah, and admire the heritage listed buildings that Chiltern has to offer, including the Town Hall, Post Office, Former Court House and Masonic Hall. Walk no further than 50 metres to one of the region's most esteemed wineries “Posh Plonk” where they offer exceptional wines, pizzas, and platters.

This gorgeous home is the quintessential getaway to explore the Indigo Valley, one of Victoria's premier tourist destinations. The region boasts a rich history and is dotted with beautifully preserved towns, stunning natural attractions, superb food, wine and craft beer, and nature pursuits such as cycling and walking. Our home is situated 20 minutes drive to Beechworth, 14 minutes drive from Rutherglen, and 26 minutes drive to Yackandandah.
