About this property
Exclusive Pambula Beach 5-Bed Right on the Sand with Premium Direct Sand Access.
Welcome to The River Mouth Beach House, a beautifully appointed 5-bedroom coastal retreat set right on the sand at Pambula Beach. With rare direct beach access from the front yard, sweeping water and river views, private coastal heritage, and premium comfort, this is the only home of its kind in town. A family property since the 1950s, it blends modern amenities with authentic fishing-village character.
Previous guests have commented that, although the photos are beautiful, they still don’t compare to the incredible feeling of experiencing the property firsthand.
This is the only property in Pambula Beach where you can step straight through the front yard and onto the sand — no roads, no public pathways, and nothing between you and the ocean except dune grass and shells. Morning swims, barefoot coffee strolls, and dolphin sightings often happen here.
Our family story began in the humble beach hut still standing on the grass below the house. In the 1950s, Olive and Walter, along with Dawn and their growing family, lived in that quaint shack just metres from where you’ll stand today. From these early days, the river was central to daily life — providing fresh fish for dinner, a playground for children, and a constant reminder of the family’s deep ties to this land and sea.
Later, Uncle Ken who was a local commercial fisherman and beloved barefoot character, built his cottage on the property. He repaired nets on the grass flats below, with trawlers moored at the nearby jetty. His original fibro cottage was removed in 2007 to make way for the modern duplex you’ll stay in today. But his legacy remains everywhere.
Dawn and John lived here for most of their lives. Though they have since passed, their creativity, humour, and love for this shoreline remain in every beam and board. Their son now owns the property, and we are honoured to share this cherished place with guests who value both comfort and story.
You’ll find genuine touches of family heritage throughout:
• Island bench and dining table crafted from Uncle Ken’s cottage timbers
• Fishing poles overhead, 60–70 years old
• A chandelier built from a traditional dip net
• An entertainment unit made from timbers salvaged from the Empire Gladstone shipwreck — pulled up in nets and saved "for a rainy day”. These are not décor choices. They are memories.
Perched just above the sand, the small beach hut has become one of the most painted icons on this coastline. It’s been featured in family portraits, art shows, and countless holiday albums. Guests now enjoy it for shade, picnics, and quiet reading between swims.

About the host
Your host
This property and surrounding land, including the beach at the front, has been in the family since the 1950's.
In the early 1930's my Mother, Dawn, moved with her family to the little hut with the veranda located on the beach at the front of this house. Hard to believe but her entire family of 5 lived there.
In the early 1950's Dawn's brother Ken purchased the land, and built a cottage where he lived until his passing in the early 2000's. Uncle Ken was a local deep-sea trawler fisherman and a bit of a character, he despised wearing shoes and was often seen walking into Pambula in just his bare feet, even in the coldest of frosty winters. He made his living from the sea and was often seen mending his fishing nets on the rocks below the house at low tide, with his beloved trawlers moored at the jetty beside.
In 2007 Uncle Ken's fibro cottage was pulled down to make way for the new Duplex homes here today.
