About this property

TOWNBANK COTTAGE Pet Friendly N.Cape May

This cottage is one house away from the beach front on Shore Road in historic Townbank.
This setting offers such a perfect beach stay you will want to return year after year! Whether you are looking for a family vacation, couple's retreat or simply to reconnect with a group of friends, this property is equipped and located to provide wonderful memories that will last your lifetime.

This is a two bedroom, one full bath home, which comfortably sleeps six, offers an amazing view above the dunes from the sun room for daily dolphin and sunset watching. Townbank is known for spectacular sunset viewing.. People come from all around just to watch the grand colors provided nightly as the sun sinks slowly into the horizon over the water. Staying here ensures you the premium, unobstructed view of this daily event from both inside the home or the fenced in yard at no additional cost!

The home has air conditioning window units, however guests equally enjoy opening the many windows to fully experience the ocean breeze, peaceful lapping waves and sea gulls beckoning you to enjoy your day on the quiet, non-crowded beach which awaits just outside your door. This area is perfect for strolling about on the beach (no beach tags required!) or biking along the safe shore road that runs directly in front of the cottage.

The Cape May-Lewis Ferry is just over a mile down the road. If you want to hit the boardwalk at night, Cape May is 10 minutes by car and Wildwood is close. Nearby there are wineries, shops, galleries and gourmet restaurants. Harpoons on the Bay, beach front restaurant is just a few blocks walk down the road and a great place to dine in if you aren't in the mood to cook! You can have a few drinks and simply walk home; no need to worry about driving! A quick trip to the market is only a few minutes by car. Major highways are accessible just outside of town, yet traffic is not a problem while staying in Townbank. The “small town feel” is comforting while strolling or biking throughout the town.

The house is comfortably furnished for your enjoyment and offers updated kitchen appliances, two bedrooms plus additional sleeping on a large sofa.. The eat in kitchen comfortably seats six and offers views directly out the sliding glass doors. The grand deck offers relaxing seating while overlooking the water, or just a place to hang-out and watch the dolphins or sunsets.

The cottage sits in a white picket fenced in yard and offers plenty of space for outdoor fun. Beach access is simply through the gate, down the short, gently sloping dune and you are on our quiet, peaceful, non-crowded beach. It's easy to go back and forth from your “beach camp” to access a snack, drink or the bathroom as you enjoy the tranquil setting of what seems to be a private beach.
I have chosen native landscaping that provides food and shelter for wild life.. Rather than tearing down this old beach house I Have decided to maintain it. Most guests appreciate the cozy comfortable nature of this home. I don't want you to be disappointed, if you prefer brand new,

Stay in Cape May

We had a wonderful stay in Cape May! The home was perfect for what we needed: full stove (gas burners - bonus!), full size fridge, grill, fire pit, yard for dogs to run, beautiful view of the water from the home. We had a small issue with the a/c unit and we were able to fix it and the renter refunded us some money which definitely wasn’t expected, and we were very thankful! Also, we had only positive interactions with the owners and the locals were very friendly.

The location was nice and close to the beach. The house was not kept up with. The ac unit in the second bedroom was not cooling at all and there was mold around all of the ac units on the property. It was 90 degrees on the inside with all the ac units running. After reading the last entry in the guest book, it was apparent the owner would be of no help. We ended up paying it forward and buying a new window unit for the second bedroom so that we could sleep at night. Half of the yard is overgrown with prickly weeds. It looked like there may have been a kayak and a raft float in there but they were inaccessible.

I am really disappointed in this property. It looked nothing like the photos and the floors were sticky and unclean. I went out and bought my own mop the first night to preclean. The small rooms air conditioner had black mold and there was a TREE coming into the other bedroom. The coffee maker and ice maker and one of the air cons was broken. Every night I laid away worried about bugs. The outdoor shower was not accessible and looked like it hadn’t been used for years. Not as advertised. The last annual fire marshal inspection was from 2020. Luckily it was very close to beach. VRBO, you should NoT represent this house. I’ve never had a problem with VRBO but am not sure I want to use this company again. The owners lived next door and the comments in the guest book from the last visitor said they were mean and unhelpful. I’m a single mom and didn’t want to put my kids in a dangerous situation so I didn’t say anything bc of safety.

Don't believe the photos posted online

So much to say. The place is a disaster. Difficulty with lockbox. Finally entered and we were totally shocked. It was a hot dirty disaster. Big issue with electrical box tripping off. Stopped counting our resets after 50 times. Contacted Gary about everything and he seemed to be clueless. Electrical issue was addressed on or last day. The house was NEVER cool. Window in 2nd BR was down. Unable to lift it. Plant life coming in as well as hot air despite the AC being on 60. The kichen and bath were extremely warm. Ant traps everywhere. Hair was in the tub( not our) and. Dirty rag left on bathrrom floor. Windows were filthy. The contraption in living room was main AC. Duct taped into place. We were refunded 100 for the AC issues. We should be refunded at least half of what we paid.Sunroom had no shades adding to the heat issue. All the shades were either broken or in some form of brokenness. We stayed in many VRBO and by far this was absolute worst. Outside " shower" is a hose. Grill, dont go there. No umbrella on a sun deck.
Window down plants growing in.
Ac unit in 2nd BR. Reads 60. No way.

Perfect Location, As Always

This was my 6th or 7th (I've lost track) annual July stay and I'm still in love. Early morning dolphin & osprey watching on the deck, gorgeous sunsets just a step away every evening, and all in a peaceful, quiet neighborhood. True that it would benefit from a little TLC, but I'm not a perfectionist, I still find it charming. It's clean, comfortable, and well stocked for a vacation stay. See you next year!

Sunsets and Dog Friendly

If you are looking for fancy and modern, this is not the place. BUT if you are looking for comfortable, dog friendly and gorgeous sunsets, then rent this place! Bay beach right across the street, sunsets can't be beat. Dogs loved the yard and were obsessed with the bunnies in the adjoining yard! Will definitely rent again. Gary was easy to work with and answered my emails immediately,

Amazing Location!

We came for a long weekend stay. The location was amazing! You could be in the ocean within 5 minutes of walking out the door. The house is in a residental neighborhood so there isn't much noise at night. The landscaping was great! We saw so many birds and rabbits which was really nice. The back porch was amazing! We spent every evening out there watching the sun go down. The ocean is really gentle at that beach and we didn't have to worry about our kids with the waves. We would love to rebook in the future!

Amazing vacation!!

I wish I had found this cottage sooner!! I’ve been coming to Cape May for at least 30 years but this is the first time I stayed along the bay . It was perfect! I didn’t want to leave my chair on the deck! Even my dogs loved it! This vacation was just what I needed and I loved it so much, I already made my reservation for next year! Thank you for having us!! Needs TLC

This property is as poorly maintained on the inside as it is on the outside. It's really overgrown and appears neglected on the outside. The inside is old and infested with ants. There was a stain on the chair in the family room that looked like poop. No W/D and having to bring ur own sheets is outrageous for 375.00/night. It is desperately in need of both an overhaul and price reduction.

Location and beach were excellent. Property overgrown and had rusting bikes, ladder, old beach chairs. Kitchen sticky and no storage. Non working lamps (5)and 2 broken fans in living room. Sticky notes everywhere. Hit head on corner of house on deck— very dangerous! Should be padded.

Beautiful town and location

You can not beat this location, the town, beach, and people were amazing. Gary was helpful and communicated well. The place itself is older which has it's charms, a few upgrades would make it a gem. My only concern was the heating grate in the middle of the living room floor. We have a 4yo and 1.5yo and of course that was a novelty and telling them not to touch it, don't put your fingers in it, don't drop anything into it got old really fast. I did not know that was there and maybe a coffee table over it when not in use would be helpful. Otherwise we enjoyed our trip and would come back.

Unbelievable location, house was rough

The house, as promised, was rustic. It's old and kinda rough, but I wasn't surprised bc that was discussed in all the comments. The LOCATION was spectacular and we were surrounded by million dollar homes. The beach was steps away and there were NO CROWDS. To stand alone on a beach in Cape May in the middle of July just blew me away. As far as the house, the bathroom was very clean, the kitchen was somewhat clean, the bedrooms were fine and the yard was rough. I don't mind the overgrowth but all the broken furniture in the pile on the deck and the rusty bikes just all should have been removed. The carpets were gross, the place smelled pretty bad but we febreezed a lot and opened windows. We will definetly come back to Town Bank but we'll pay a little more to stay at a cleaner place. All said, I feel very lucky to have found this rental (it fit our budget), it introduced us to North Cape May and gave us the opportunity to see what else is out there. Gary did not overpromise, we got exactly what he said. Overall we had a fantastic vacation and we fell in love with the area.

Exactly as advertised

It’s exactly as advertised, a “rustic” no frills property just across the street the bay. The house and yard would benefit from a good day or two of TLC cleanup, getting rid of broken junk, and minor repair/replacement investments. We spent a lot of time on the big raised deck in the backyard, with a gorgeous view of the bay especially at sunset. Fully-fenced yard was a bonus for bringing our dog. It’s a relaxed, peaceful neighborhood, very dog-friendly. A lot of dogs walking along the bay shore mornings and sunsets when they’re allowed. Note that there are no poop bag stations. There’s one good restaurant Harpoons within walking distance, other than that you have to drive for any food or shopping. There’s an Uncle Bills nearby that seems to be a local secret and never has a long wait like every other Uncle Bills location—great for breakfast! My overall recommendation is that as long as you’re okay with things not being pristine, this property is a good value for the price.

Is location enough?

Pro-location, patio, and good water pressure. Con-front screen door falling off, broken toilet paper holder, broken ceiling fan in living room, an immense amount of heat coming from fridge making the kitchen and bathroom extra hot, fridge leaking inside (cup catching water), overgrown yard, prickers in yard, no beach chairs or umbrella (what was there was either broken rusted so it wouldn’t work), fenced yard wasn’t secure nor could it be made secure, overall dirty, lots of cobwebs that could easily be dusted off lamps, a magic eraser would help all the marks on the wall, broken picture frame on wall. We definitely feel that we didn’t get our money’s worth with all the cleaning fees when it wasn’t clean. Vacationing with toddlers and a dog are enough, we didn’t need these extra issues. We would not return to this spot but we aren’t letting it sour our first experience in Cape May.

Worst expereince with lodging ever

My wife is suffereing from an autoimmune disease Lupus and we wanted to take a few days at the beach in Cape May so she could regain some strength. We had prevsiosuly used Vrbo and were satisfied so we booked through them for the stay in Cape May. I paid in full in advance and we were looking forward to the stay. However, when we arrived at the cabin we were shocked by the condition of the place. I took photos (which i shared with Vrbo). There were rusty bicycles and bar-b-que pits in the unkept yard. The key lock was broken open so we called the owner who told us to go next door (another of his properties) while he contacted the people who cleaned the places to see if they had moved the spare key. After awhile we located the spare key to our rental. The condition of this place was filthy with spiders on the walls and ant swarms in the kitchen. The carpets were pee stained and the furiture was stained. The front screen was taped on with duck tape and the air conditioning filter was clogged with black residue. I was shocked that this property was promoted by Vrbo.I called the owner to complain and he swore at me and siad he didn't care if we stayed or not. So, my wife and I left and drove the 3 hours back home that night. The owner sent me a text that we was refunding his portion but latter refused to do so.I will never stay at another Vbro property again.

No Way Cape May! Don't rent from this man!

We were scheduled to stay Oct. 3 thru 6 at the house in North Cape May, but Hurricane Ian had other ideas. The aftermath of the storm was predicted to pass through the area, and a coastal flood warning was posted. We asked Gary the owner if we could postpone our stay to another week when he had no other booking, and he said he would check with VRBO, but we never heard from him until after the storm. We wrote to him again, and he took a week to respond to us. He then said that the best he could do was to give us a $600 credit from the payment we had already made towards another rental. Since this would only have covered the cleaning and pet rental fees, which were unnecessary since we never set foot in the place, that was hardly a credit. We think we should have gotten a full credit, since the weather made it almost impossible to stay there at that time. He never responded to our last message. OUR OPINION OF THE OWNER IS VERY LOW, WE WILL NEVER RENT FROM HIM AGAIN, AND WE URGE OTHERS TO AVOID HIM, TOO!

Great location - property a mess

Screen on the front storm door is falling out 2 rusty bicycles on the property Ladder laying in the back yard with plant growth on it Outside shower not working Both Adirondack chairs on raised deck has cracked slats and also a broken brace - no one can sit in these chairs Filters in all airconditioners were filthy with dust Walls and ceilings need a desperate paint job Shower rod is rusty and the shower curtain has mold on it Fence leading into the yard has a 6" gap where the dogs can get under and the same was for the gate leading into the adjoining property Curtain rod over the sliding glass door leading on to the side pourch was pulling out of the wall Cant walk in bare feet in the back yard as there are sticker vines growing in the grass Steel bar is leaning up against the fence with plantgrowth all over it Cobb webs throughout the house The wood outside is filled with holes from carpenter bees It is quite obvious that this property is only a income resource and not a place for families to enjoy their environment during vacation Unfortunately it appears that the owner does not care about this property nor the impression it leaves with the renters. This property is probably the worst looking property in the area. My wife and I vacationed with my sister and brother in law. The beach is just a few steps away which was great. The beach was clean and we lucked out with terrific weather. We were so stunned by the lack of care this property is given.
