About this property
Island Retreat on Lower Buckhorn
Welcome to a spacious four bedroom island cottage located on Lower Buckhorn Lake. Situated 20 minutes away from both towns of Lakefield and Buckhorn for any shopping needs.
Second floor open concept kitchen, dining and living room, plus sprawling wrap around decks on main and second floor offer gorgeous views of the lakes and surrounding islands. The large front lawn has a swing set, lakeside fire pit and is ideal for croquet, bocce, and other lawn games.
Cottage offers a private parking lot with two parking spots available for guests. Private dock on main land is approximately 600m away from cottage, through mostly protected bays. Unique to this island cottage is a well beaten walking path across two dams providing a 12min walk from main land to the cottage. Upon arrival/departure owner can be available to meet guests and provide boat ride into cottage to bring across any luggage and groceries. For any additional required travel, between arrival/departure the cottage offers use of a row boat with oars and an electric trolling motor for those licenced to operate an electric motor to get from cottage to parking area.
Water is approximately 4' deep off the end of the dock but can get weedy around the dock into the summer months and depending of the summer. This is not an ideal swimming location. Cottage offers a 17' floating mat that is great off the end of the dock to get into the water and cool off. There are a few shallow swimming spots around as well as an easy paddle to open water for those more comfortable swimmers. Swimming shoes are recommended for all guests.
The walking path extends to Lovesick Lock 30 offering stunning Kawartha granite shores and lots of woodland and shoreline to explore on Wolf Island Provincial Park.
The lake offers excellent bass, walleye and Muskie fishing along with a variety of panfish, which are very plentiful. For boat owners, boat launch is available at Reach Harbour (closer to Buckhorn) and is an easy drive through the Trent-Severn water system buoys to cottage where we have a 20' dock. Being situated on the Trent-Severn, there are 100's of KM of boating available through the lock systems.
Outdoor Recreation: canoe, paddle boards, swing set, variety of life jackets adult and children but we suggest to bring your own if you have them for best fit and overall safety, boat safety kit, croquet, bocee, Kan Jam, BBQ
