About this property

Little Rocky Ridge - A Cabin in the Trees

Perched on top of a hill, Little Rocky Ridge is a unique private house tucked away in the forest just 2 1/2 hours from Toronto.

Surrounded by trees, this peaceful getaway is close to several beaches, trails, and some of the best restaurants in Haliburton county.

Groceries, shopping, farmers markets and several fun activities close by.

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil hideaway in the forest. The long, private driveway takes you uphill to a private getaway in the forest.
The space
The space is modern with high ceilings and huge windows that let the sunlight shine in.

One large main floor deck is perfect for relaxing and barbecuing and the private deck off the primary bedroom is a treat for your morning coffee over the trees.

The space is spacious but cozy, with two bedrooms at opposite ends of the house. One main floor bedroom has a Queen bed and a lofted twin bed, reachable with a built-in ladder.

The primary bedroom is upstairs with an open staircase that takes you to a beautiful retreat with a cozy reading nook and your own bathroom, with a freestanding tub. There’s also a second balcony accessed from the primary bedroom for a peaceful morning coffee in the trees.

Full washer and dryer in the laundry room for all of your clothing needs or for drying bathing suits after a swim at the nearby public beach.
Guest access
You can access the full property though there are two locked closets that store some of our items. The wood burning stove is also currently off limits for use at this time.

Please feel free to use everything but these areas. Please note that the property is on a hill and caution should be used when walking around by the drops as it’s quite rocky and hilly!

There is no direct access to the lake across the street but many public beaches a few minutes away by car.
Other things to note
The primary bedroom is upstairs via an open staircase to the main floor.

The driveway is a long drive on gravel up hill - it can be tricky in the winter, so you may want to park at the lower parking area if it’s easier for you and your vehicle. The hill is great for privacy as you’re tucked into the forest.

There are a few walkable restaurants and a bakery down the street. Use caution if walking at night and try to walk against traffic.

We’re avid runners and know a few great routes around. Just ask! We’ve also left a guidebook to help you find all of the things to do in the area, from swimming to hiking trails.

You’re just 40 minutes from Algonquin, 10 minutes from Minden, 20 minutes from Haliburton and 20 minutes to Dorset. There’s a lot to see and do!

We have a wood-burning stove that should not be used by guests at this time.

Board games and gaming consoles are available for your enjoyment, as well as books to read during your stay. Please take care to leave it in great condition for others to enjoy!

We’re both professionals based in the city, and this cottage is our retreat from the hustle and bustle of urban life. We spend about half the year here, and during the other half, we love sharing the space with guests. The slower pace, fresh air, and connection to nature are a much-needed reset — and we truly enjoy giving others the opportunity to experience the area and create lasting memories of their own.

Why they chose this property

As a child, I spent time at a Boy Scouts camp nearby, and my wife grew up cottaging in the area. Over the years, we both built a deep connection and fond memories here. So when it came time to build a cottage of our own, the choice felt natural — this place already felt like home.

What makes this property unique

Our property is perched atop a hill, offering exceptional privacy from the surrounding neighborhood. Nestled in the heart of cottage country, it’s just minutes from some of the area’s best restaurants and popular public beaches. The charming towns of Minden and Haliburton are also just a short drive away, making it the perfect base for exploring the region.
