Our stay was perfect! Beautifully designed home with everything we needed and in a perfect location. The hosts were very accommodating, communicative and nearby / available should we have needed anything.
Can’t say enough about the home, the locality and the available spots in Kyoto where you are not overwhelmed by tourists and get to feel the ancient city. Owner gets 10/10 for providing a great home that completes your stay.
Great place to stay, much bigger than we thought. Owner was very helpful at the check in process. Close to Gion District.

Thank you very much Paul! I am happy to have your group at Komachiya.
I hope you have a great time on all your future travels and endeavors! Hope to see you again!
This property was perfect for our visit in Kyoto. Location - near subway, Gion district and easy walking to temples, restaurants and shops. Amenities - everything we needed and more in the property. Comfiest futon mattress for all of us!!! No complaining by the kids and adults of sleeping on the floor. The owner was so helpful, and assisted us during the stay with booking taxis, reading children's cold and flu packets and tips for making our time in Kyoto meaningful.

They are so lovely guests. Easy to communicate with of course, neat and tidy even they have kids. Highly recommended to any host. Hope to see them again. Thank you Corrina!
The location is really great. Just a few minutes walk you can get to the famous Gion district as well as a couple of nice temples. There is also a big supermarket where you can buy produce to make meals at the house. I had my parents and my two kids, we definitely had enough room for everyone. The futons were so comfortable. The house also is fully stocked with cooking items so it was super easy to have a simple meal at home. The owner was very friendly and detail oriented.
A couple of minor issues; upstairs has light coming into the house from the shopping street outside and there is no curtain to shut it out. The shopping street has foot traffic even at night but when we never had issues sleeping as we are so tired after a day of fun sight seeing!
Overall I'd come back if I visit Kyoto again!

Traditional home walking distance to lots
We spent a very pleasant 3 days in this traditional Japanese home on a lovely walking / market street just north of Gion. The house is very functional and has everything you need. And it’s walking distance to several temples, neighborhoods, the market, etc.

Excellent experience
My 90 year old mom and I spent a delightful vacation in Komachiya. I rent this home particular for its spaciousness. It is an over hundred year house. The wood structure has been well preserved. It was our first time living in a traditional Japanese home. We all enjoyed sleeping in tatami. The beds and comforts were very comfortable. It is between 3rd and 4th streets which were the center of the city. But the neighbor was very quiet. The creek ran through nearby with the traditional old stone bridges. There were many shops and restaurants within walking distance. I would like to thank the landlord of the house, she helped me to rent a wheelchair online. When we arrived the wheelchair was ready. Since it is an old house, it is dark and we had lights on most of the time. By the end of the March it was still cold, but there were multiple heaters around to keep us warm. It was a wonderful experience.

Very nice traditional home in a great location
The home is very comfortable and well located to most of the things you would want to do and see in Kyoto. The only drawback is the lack of natural light, but that’s to be expected given it is located in a shopping arcade

Wonderful experience!
Our party of 7 people stayed in this house for 3 nights. We love its location in Gion which is walking distance to many restaurants, shops, the Kennin-Ji temple and a few other sites, and also the subway station. The house is spacious and fit our 7 people very well, which is hard to find for these traditional houses. There is 1 full bath in the lower level and one toilet on the upper level. Upper level can sleep 5-6 people and lower can fit 2-3. Their check-in time is also as early as 1pm which is nice. The hostess met us at checkin and gave us a lot of useful tourist info. She was also very nice to book the taxi for us for our departure day. All in all we were very satisfied and highly recommend this place.

Historical and clean house
We love our stay at Komachiya. It was spacious, clean, comfortable, and surprisingly safe for our group which included small child as young as 2 yo. Location was very convenient for us to get around Kyoto. The small river by the house was very popular for our children to play in.

Fantastic true Japanese experience
We had a wonderful stay at this traditional Japanese home in Kyoto with our family of 5. The home was quite spacious and lovely. The location in Kyoto was excellent - it was very close to several subway stations and within walking distance to many of the sights. There are many restaurants close by with a supermarket and convenience store around the corner. The owner spoke English and was very helpful upon our arrival. The house was very clean and the kitchen was well supplied. The futons were very comfortable to sleep on. The house was cool with several AC units scattered throughout the home. It was nice having a washer and dryer in the house although the dryer does not work well given the combined washer and dryer in one unit (which the owner warned us about upon arrival) however we were able to hang dry some of the clothes and their is a laundromat right around the corner where we were able to dry clothes as well. It was truly an excellent place to stay providing our family with a true Japanese experience. The owner even had plenty of umbrellas for our whole family as we were their during rainy season. We would highly recommend this home and if we travel back to Kyoto would love to stay here again.

Location and ambience! We loved it here.
We loved our stay at Komachiya Kyoto. The location is ideal for sightseeing and exploring Kyoto. We were able to walk to many attractions and it was only minutes to the subway and buses. The arcade has good local shopping and restaurants. It was our first experience of traditional Japanese accommodation. We found the beds super comfortable and the shower good and hot. Everything was very clean and there were plenty of towels. Our host, Masae, was welcoming and very helpful. We heartily recommend Komachiya Kyoto.

Good location, the house is within walking distance to bus/subway stations
This is a traditional Japanese house. It is located in a quiet alley with a few small markets and restaurants. We stayed here for 7 days and the house was spacious for 5 adults. We liked to have the convenience of a full kitchen, washer/dryer, a full bathroom on the main floor and a small half bathroom upstairs. The house has very steep and narrow stairways, it can be challenging for the elderly and young children to go up and down stairs. The owner gave us a detailed tour of the house and instructions on how to get to major attractions using public transportation. The owner was nice, polite and responsive to our needs. We would stay here again.

Convenient Location
We stayed at this machiya for 11 nights and loved it. It was next to a subway and there was a bus stop around the corner. We could walk to countless temples from our apartment and the Gion district was less than a 10 minute walk. The ceilings were low, but we got used to that. There was aircon in all of the rooms. The kitchen was well equipped and the place was very clean. Our family of five enjoyed our stay. Two friends stayed with us for part of our stay and there was ample room for all seven of us. There were three bedrooms upstairs and we used the loungeroom downstairs for another room which could be fully closed off. It was handy having a toilet upstairs too. Masae provided us with lots of information about public transport and things to do. We would love to stay again.

Our Family of 5 Adults Loved Komachiya!
Great location and all the amenities we needed. It was a wonderful experience to be in a traditional home. We were really impressed with how quiet it was at night. It was easy to walk to many beautiful locations and restaurants and grocery stores were nearby. The host was very helpful and we left our bags earlier in the day we checked in. It was very clean and exactly as described. We would love to stay there again!

Great place!
Stayed here 5 nights with my mother. It's a big house so we had loads of space and so convenient for everything in Kyoto. The house is beautiful inside and because it's in a old shopping arcade it throws you right into the traditional Kyoto feeling. Will use it again when I have family over in Japan. 5 stars out of 5!
